  1. Me and my fellow travellers did'nt think it was funny...but you might. Skunked
  2. While there are variables, there are a few things you can bank on to affect (personal) coin sales. They are (in no particular order); 1. Design. It must be a good design and have eye appeal. Adding something unique or a gimmick (spinner, glowpaint, decoder) can help also. 2. Price. If you gouge them, they won't come. Keep it under $8.00 including shipping, handling etc etc. 3. Name recognition. Widley known cachers tend to sell out much faster. 4. Tracking and Icons. Gotta have em for a fast smooth sellout. Not having these 4 points covered doesn't mean your project will flop, but having all 4 points covered practically guarantees success.
  3. There is currently a BadAndy coin on ebay. I've received numerous requests for this coin, but alas, my stock is depleted (if you missed out this would be a great opportunity). It's part of a relief auction so bid it up!!
  4. It really depends on the weather. In Summer when it's hot, I'll put chilled tequila in my hydration bag, whereas in Wintertime I prefer slightly warmed tequila. During those Spring and Fall months, you really can't beat just plain ol tequila. I've heard of people actually filling their bags with water...but I have yet to meet one.
  5. I found a ver 2 and passed it on since it already had a travel history. I had a ver 3 that I traded from Moun10bike and I gifted it to a good friend (he has a HUGE geocoin collection, but didn't have a Moun10bike). I've never seen a ver 1, but if I did come into possesion of one, I'd probably pass it on as well (after showing it off for a few months). It isn't that I don't appreciate geocoins, especially the cool coins. My collection is spread out over the world...and in my profile.
  6. Buying DC will only protect you from a buyer that chooses to lie about receiving the coins. If you're worried about replacing lost coins, insurance is your option. Of the very few that I sent that went missing, I am confidant that the recipient was honest about it. In 2 cases (both in Europe), the missing coins were delivered about a week after I resent. Sometimes it just takes a while....
  7. Great idea. It would promote a little preventative maintenance on our caches. I have some caches that I've never revisited after placement. The logs and lack of dnf's make me confidant the cache is still in good condition, but a semi annual reswag day would only improve things.
  8. Personally, I have'nt bothered with delivery conf or tracking. With well over 500 mailers sent and a loss rate of less than 0.5%, it just doesn't make any sense financially. It is much cheaper just to replace a lost coin...but then again...I run with scissors.
  9. The wyoming/nebraska forum is not very active. The last post was dated March 21st.
  10. Pardon the rough translation...but I'm getting warmed up for my first Portuguese geocoin. Emita-me por favor seu endereço. Eu emitir-lhe-ei uma moeda para pôr em um geocache.
  11. Interesting analogy...and since I just luurrrv analogies, allow me to place your "diamond ring" theory in the proper perspective. Imagine you join a club...a club with thousands of locations around the world. Inside that club is a fishbowl intended for people to place diamond rings. Some rings have labels that say "Take me...I'm yours" while others say "Take me to Las Vegas and put in in the fishbowl there". All members of this club are encouraged to take a ring or 2 from the fishbowl and abide by the attached request. One day one of the members starts taking rings and keeping them for himself, regardless of the rings goals. Soon he finds that no one likes him, and some are even openly angry with him for his deceit and thievery. He finds that he is shunned by members of his own club and the other members become so aggravated with him that they change the locks on the clubhouse and won't let him back in. Did he break a law? Perhaps not in a strict legal sense, but most certainly regarding his honor and integrity.
  12. When I had my coins made and mailed them out I included a number of activated coins in some of the mailers headed to Europe, The UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. The idea was to watch them travel all over the world. It has been loads of fun watching them move to exotic places...places I've always wanted to visit but never had the chance. Most of the logs are in the local language and I've been using babelfish.altavista.com to translate the them. It comes out a bit cryptic, but does the job. One thing has been very apparent in those logs... the care and appreciation of those moving the coins. If you don't already have a coin or three travelling the world, find a cacher across the pond and giver it a whirl. It's been very rewarding for me. On that note, I'd be interested in finding a cacher in the Far East and South America to send a traveller to. Any takers?
  13. A coinsandpins coin and pin set. Thanks Aaron!!!!
  14. Excellant analogy, and I'll expand on that a little. Mom used to make stuffed bell peppers for dinner about once a month. I know they are a difficult dish to prepare but I hated them as did most of my brothers, but we ate them every single time without a complaint. Dad told me once "if you don't like something, eat it fast and get it over with". Years later, Mom found out how much we disliked stuffed bell peppers and it caught her by surprise. All this time she thought we loved them based on the speed we woofed them down. If we had just told her politely how bad we hated bell peppers, she would have moved on to lasagna or something. Instead of ignoring the repeated stinkers, maybe a polite note would change his placements and lead to lasagna?
  15. Fooey, that's what I get for working this weekend... I didn't even know there was a sale thread until WAY too late. Oh well. If someone who ordered a bunch wants to trade/sell (NFP) once they have them in hand, let me know. Thanks 21 people ordered more than 1 set. 2 people ordered 3 sets and 2 people ordered 4 sets. Of the folks that ordered 2 sets, it's my guess that some of them will place 1 intact set into their collection and release a traveller from the second. I imagine a few sets will show up on ebay. In any case there are at most, 21 opportunities for trades of this set. If it's any consolation, when (if) I do a 2007 coin half will be composed of traveller coin sets. I really hope that others will consider doing matched traveller sets of their coins in the future.
  16. I'm not sure "the craze is over". It may have reached a plateau but from what I can see, there are still many new coins coming out. Although my last edition sold out in under 24 hours, I think the days of 2 day sellouts of new coins are pretty much over (with some exceptions). One thing we're seeing now is collectors becoming a bit more selective in their choices. This pushes even more ebay sales as people selloff the extra coins from their run as well as collectors thinning out their dups to make room for new coins. I think what we'll start seeing is people turning directly to ebay to finance their coin production.
  17. If I came across one of my traded coins in a cache...yup...I'd log it.
  18. I have one and I love it. The maggi bashers will be along shortly to try and talk you out of it, but I say go for it.
  19. When I think of NM, the aztec ruins and four corners come to mind.
  20. The problem with offering to trade back for a coin to keep it off ebay is simple economics. Case in point.... My coins originally sold for $8.00 and I also traded them 1 for 1. Even after they've been activated they go for $30 or so on ebay. From the ebay sellers perspective, it's not worth a 1 for 1 tradeback...it's worth $30.00 or about a 4 for 1 tradeback. I've decided that when I see someone selling one of my coins on ebay that I'll feel flattered instead of offended that it's value has risen so high.
  21. I think a simple tnlnsl would have been more appropriate. If you truly felt a need to go further, an email to the owner could have been sent. Did you honestly believe the owner would not delete your log? I doubt it. It's quite possible to be honest without being rude or denegrating.
  22. If you find yourself in the crosshairs of a charging bear you've made enough mistakes already. The best defense is to not let it get to this point. Most bear encounters begin at a distance. People who work in bear country as a profession prefer 12 gauge "flashbang" rounds and other loud noisemakers to keep them from coming in closer. I imagine a couple warning shots from a handgun would have the same effect. By the time you're in range of a can of spray, you're likely to end up as a bear turd. If it were me, I'd rather send a clip full of .45's his way once he gets that close.
  23. Apologies to the folks that missed the cutoff. I was unprepared for the pace of the orders and it seems the supply fell far short of the demand. As promised, I will keep the orders closed on these coins and the dies will be retired after the minting is complete. I did order a small amt of non matched coins for my own caching use, but they are not for sale and will mostly only be found in caches.
  24. All sold. Thanks again, and I'll keep you posted on delivery dates.
