  1. I'd say if he has or gets a GPSr soon, the odds are in your favor. If not, I'd say you still have at least an even chance that he'll put them back.
  2. The first ebay auction for one of the sets has just ended at $33 dollars. Thats over 100% appreciation in value in just under 2 weeks. I wish my stock savings did as well. Still waiting to hear about the icon.
  3. I can put the entire countries topo maps on my ex600.....
  4. I leave coins in caches just about every time I go caching.
  5. I got to see the samples at our coin event today, very nice set.
  6. If you need them, magellan would be happy to fix you up, once you get a live body.
  7. I have'nt heard anything new from Groundspeak, but they're working on it. I would expect it to be any time now.
  8. I cut my geocaching teeth on a sportrak map. Great unit and very accurate.
  9. How about an actual Hermits home carved into a hillside? Hermits Home
  10. I had the same problem until I updated my firmware. hasn't been an issue since.
  11. I found an etrex about a foot from a cache once. I guessed that the last to log had to be the owner. By the end of the day he had been notified and arrangements made for it's return.
  12. I'll be in for a few. Very nice coins. I'll bring your BadAndy sets to the event this weekend.
  13. All domestic shipments went out this morning and should be in your mailboxes within a couple days. International orders will go out tomorrow (I ran out of customs forms). The icons are showing as generic PC coins, but we're working on getting that fixed. Enjoy!!
  14. The topic of pickle parks has come up repeatedly in these forums. A few of my favorite caches happen to be located at known pickle parks. As long as you are aware of the situation and act accordingly, they can be viable locations for cache placements. It's probably about time for a new "pickle" attribute for cache pages.
  15. I received the coins from the mint today. It will take a couple more days to match up the sets and apply the activation codes. Some of you (USPS willing) will begin to see them in your mailboxes this week. They will all be in the mail by friday.
  16. I big box of BadAndy coins. It'll take a few days to sort them and match up the sets, but some of you will start seeing them in your mailboxes later this week.
  17. All i'm saying is there are plenty of cases where a seller wants to get a premium price (still below retail) for his goods, and there are buyers that feel it's still a bargain under their circumstance. Calling the seller a ripoff artist, or the buyer "poor folk without a credit card" isn't doing anyone a favor. I never said or implied that such a seller had any intent of doing anyone a favor. They may have paid the $400 locally and want to recoup as much as possible. I personally know a number of people that are either unwilling to use their CC online, or don't have one to use if they wanted to. Who are you to interfere and say they are being "ripped off" by utilitizing their own judgement...especially if you are not a party to the sale.
  18. Ah -- but you've manipulated the situation. Yes, if the price is "a bit high", then staying out of it makes sense. But what about when the price is quite a bit high? I mean, I'ev commonly seen someone selling used equipment that could easily be bought BRAND NEW from a reputable dealer online for less money. In those cases, it is NOT the same thing as "any other type of forum flame" to let people know that the thing brand-new from a good dealer is less money. That's doing potential buyers that don't know better a favor. If the seller just didn't know any better, and the reply is done nicely, then it just lets them know that they need to adjust the price. If the seller DID know better (which I think happens often actually), then the reply just helps potential newbies here not get bitten by a seller that was trying to cheat them. Because we try to HELP people here! Knowingly letting some seller rip off some newbie is just not right. It has little to do with "minding your own business". If someone is trying to screw over newbies to geocaching, then ignoring sellers trying to rip them off is just rude and wrong, IMO. - John... Your argument makes some assumptions that perhaps you don't realize. Primarily, you're assuming that every potential buyer has a credit card to facilitate an online payment, or is willing to use a credit card online. Many folks fall into these 2 categories. The VAST majority of online stores only accept credit cards for payments, no checks or money orders accepted. which makes it impossible for them to order online. Heres a typical example. The explorist 600 can be found online for as little as $258.00, or it can be purchased locally at a sporting goods store for around $400.00. If someone here were to offer their like new explorist 600 for sale at $325.00, using your logic...it's a ripoff artist at work. To the buyer faced with only the local option ($400.00) or the garage sale option ($325.00), please explain how you are doing them a "big brother" favor by calling it a ripoff??
  19. If you're honestly interested in buying the item and think the price is a bit high, making a lower offer is entirely appropriate. If you're not honestly interested in buying the item and think the price is a bit high, blasting the price is not much different than any other type of forum flame. Whats wrong with keeping your nose out of other folks business? The garage sale forum is just that, a place of business. Would you just as readily interfere with any other type of legitimate business transaction that you are not a party to?
  20. Much of the variation in quality may have something to do with with grading. As an example, check out your local lumber section at Home depot. You can buy a 2x4 in various grades all from the same supplier. They vary from knotty, warped cheap grades to fine, finished expensive grades...but they're all 2x4's. The only manufacturer that I checked out in China has the same structure. Higher grade coins have more QC and rejections and use higher quality materiels than lower graded coins. The trick is to make sure your distributor orders the higher grade on your coins. You're going to pay more, but you get what you pay for.
  21. Update from the mint! I had to delay production for a few days as there was some confusion regarding the engraving of duplicate numbers. We estimate that they will ship to me on the 31st, putting them on my doorstep right around the weekend of the 5th. For those locals attending the South Hills cache bash, I *may* have them with me then. Mailers are already addressed and labeled and ready to be stuffed so if everything goes according to schedule, the coins will be mailed out aug 7th or 8th. This puts us well on track for 4 weeks from start to finish on this project. Thanks again folks!!
  22. My ancestry is traced back to Jamestowne...I wonder if those are some of my family heirlooms?
  23. Around here, most caches are either in ammocans or decon containers. I've never seen a cache wrapped in plastic. I don't think we have a single LPM, but we do have some micros, many of which are in custom made containers. Our caches are rarely muggled and usually contain decent swag, along with plenty of sig items. Travel 100 miles west and you'll find a cache under every lightpost, lots of tupperware, but still decent swag and lots of sigs. Travel 100 miles east and you'll find the effects of an active cache maggot. Log only caches abound and many don't last long before they're taken. The rush to find a new cache before it's horked by the maggot makes for some fast and furious caching.
