  1. This has probably been asked, or it is somewhere on the website, so forgive me..but I'd like some help quick as I would like to take some kids from a rec center to this cache this afternoon... We figured out this Cryptoquiz cache, but our numbers are off..I emailed the owner for some help, here is his response: did you remember that there are several formats for Lat-long? The numbers you have for CryptoQuiz are correct. N DD.DDDDDº W DD.DDDDDº The format you are used to is DD MM.MMM Here are my numbers: N46 degrees 68.692 W92 degrees 28.350 Can anyone tell me how to convert it or can someone tell me what the answer is?? Thanks
  2. Never heard of it, does the guy at gander mountain know anything about GPSr? Did you ask him what his experiance he has with a GPS in the field? Can you load detaild maps into it? What optional software is offered with it? Does it have a data port to link it to a computer? You get what you pay for, for $80.00 you are not going to get very much. I am using them to take kids from my rec centers geocaching and with city budget cuts, the cheaper, the better. They don't need to be fancy..all I do is have them look at the coords of where they are and where they need to be..which direction to walk and how far to get there..so I don't download or do any of that other tech stuff. Right now, I have 2 etrexs and my supervisor is letting me buy 2 a year..in a couple of years, no more kids fighting over them. So, if the Lorence (sp?) can do that, I'm interested.
  3. Has anyone bought/tried the Lorenz GPS which costs about $80? A guy at Gander Mountain said that with the maps, they are better than the yellow etrex.
  4. I am a geocacher who gets paid to cache with my youth at my recreation sites in Duluth, MN. I am currently working on a policy for caches in our 129 parks in the city as well as all of our trails and other park property. Even though I do not have any say or jurisdiction on state parks, our city Parks Dept. supports geocaching. So if you still want to come to MN, come to the city of Duluth..we have awesome caches here and also a campground at Spirit Mountain. The Lester Park Bash, a MN Geocache event, is on June 4th.
  5. I told my husband I wanted ammo boxes..they last much longer than flowers or choc'late..my b'day is the following week so I just need stuff to stock them with...
  6. How about "If found, please return to ____________________" (list your home coordinates)..I was planning on doing that one for my kids...
  7. I attended a regional caching meeting recently and seen diversity for age, occupation, family types, etc. However, from what I could tell, it seemed that everyone was white. I was wondering if there are non-whites out there that are cachers.
  8. I've been playing some adventure type X Box games lately and it occurred to me that it would be cool if someone would make a geocaching video game..then you could geocache even more!
  9. Thanks for the reply..the response I got from the Garmin company was to be able to buy the basic yellow etrex for $102 under their educational program..so not a very good deal when compared to stores that put them on sale cheaper.
  10. Is fellow geocacher on a website, or an 800 number or something? Is that the name of the company?
  11. Thanks for the suggestions..I have already got the info for Garmin and was going to work on sending them a letter. I've been doing grant writing myself just to keep our after-school centers open (budget cuts forced alot of them closed) and may now start looking for grants specific to outdoor recreation, adventure rec, etc.
  12. Thanks, I have been looking on ebay and local pawn shops, newspaper, etc.. I never did find that cache that day. I work for a parks program and a co-worker of mine in another park observed some people doing something..he went to check it out after and found the cache, so he knew about the sport. So I'll keep lookin'..
  13. Hi! I just found out about this sport and it sounds pretty cool. I run several rec centers and would love to bring the kids out to try this. Is there any way to get a GPS donated? Will any companies that make them donate or is someone upgrading and would like to donate their old one? At one of the sites of a cache is where we bring kids rockclimbing, so we are going to try to find it without a GPS tomorrow. Thanks.
