  1. Go to Garmins website and check out the Nuvi's do a compare and one of the specs is Geocaching friendly I think the 500 is the lowest one geocahce friendly
  2. For the money its hard to beat the Garmin Venture HC. It is what I use you can find it around $100. Very fast link, High sensitivity, great battery life and color. You can load caches right from GSAK. It's what I use and have a hard time upgrading because it works so well. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=6015175
  3. Electronic compass: Barometric altimeter:
  4. I am telling you from a lot of research and experience I am a PC manufacturer and really had a hard time considering the iPhone but once I made the choice with the geocaching app as well as everything else it does it is by far the best phone I have ever had and I have had them all. You will love the geocaching app I use it with a cheap venture HC and have a great time with it!! IMHO
  5. I went with a iphone and using the geocahing app with a Venture HC for the finding I couldn't be happier
  6. As many ask what is the best gps and what is the best way to paperless cache. Well after a ton of research I have had a Garmin Venture HC and have been very happy with it it, locks in almost instantly and performs very well. I was having a real tough time spending $400 on another unit. So what I went with is an iPhone loaded the Geocahe softfware I use GSAK and push that to the Garmin. I use a NUVI 360 to get to the destination then the Venture to find and IPhone to read and log the cache. I couldn't be happier because you always have a phone with you the screen is much larger and brighter than most GPS's and because its online I can have up to date info without bringing paper and logging field notes on the spot. Thank You everyone who has responded to my questions. Very happy!
  7. If I am only using this for geocaching what view/map is the best to use. Thanks
  8. Thank You for the replies Then other than faster redraws if I only load 200 caches into the unit and I don't cache as much as I would like to, is the 40 or a 400t really worth all the extra money? I really don't like having to print all the paper out to go caching and that is the primary reason for a switch. Will I really with these be able to load my pocket queries direct from GSAK and read the cache notes and hints. One hard thing to give up is the easy use of the Garmin software for updating is the Delorme as easy? Until you get one of these in your hands its really hard to make a decision I appreciate the responses Thank You
  9. Meant to type Delorme PN-20 or Venture HC I have a Venture HC that works very well but I am wanting to go paperless and only use this GPS for geocaching, Is it worth it for me to go to the Delorme PN-20 because I can afford it or wait, use the Venture HC until I can afford a 400t Thank You
  10. Hi All Thanks for the input. I will be only using this unit for geocaching I have a Nuvi 360 for street/car and love it. I do use GSAK with pocket query and unless there is a better way want to continue using it. Thanks
  11. After more reading which is the best right now for paperless and why? Did I miss another logical choice? Thanks
  12. I have been using a Garmin Venture HC I want to upgrade with paperless in mind. I do love the Garmin software What would be the best unit to go to in the $200 - $500 range Thank You
  13. I downloaded cachemate but when I run the exe it says it needs an external app and doesn't install. Its the Pocket PC ver and I am using Vista ?? Thanks
  14. I think I figured it out The Summit HC is essentially the same as the VIsta HCX without auto street mapping and card slot. Being that I have the nuvi 360 is the price difference worth it between the 2 for me? will I run out of memory on the Summit using it only for geocaching?
  15. What is the difference between the Summit, Legend, Vista or Venture Garmin's site is not really clear. Is one better for this than the other? Thanks in advance?
  16. Thanks that answers the HC and HCX question thanks! How bout the difference between the Legend, Vista or Venture Thanks in advance
  17. OK I would like to buy my GPS this weekend so I can get started. After all the reading I have a few more questions or confusion Remember I have a NUVI 360 for the car so I believe I need no mapping. The questions are what is the main difference between the HC and the HCX and what for geocahing is a better unit the Legend, Vista or Venture. That is the real confusing question because on Garmins website when you compare them against the features they list they are exact so what is the difference and which best serves my needs. Sorry but I think I hurt my brain trying to understand this but I can't
  18. So are you saying the Vista HCX is the choice being I have the NUVI 360 to get initially in the car to the destination and worth the extra money for the new features. I also do not want to regret my purchase Thanks I appreciate the help. I am new to this and don't want to buy a second unit right away once I realize I should have for some other reason
  19. Sorry to ask again but I have a Nuvi 360 for car nav and love it, but I now have to get a handheld for geocaching only. My question is what for the money is best. I have noticed the cheapest ones (Etrex) still use serial for connection to PC, is connecting to PC useful if so then what is the best priced USB unit for geocaching only. Thanks
  20. I have the Nuvi 360 and wouldn't trade it for the world!!! Bluetooth works great!! Garmin in the car and Nuvi series is awesome I still have to decide about a handheld yet though
