  1. Since I had surgery on my foot and can't walk around, my hubby and I started doing the virtual caches so I can ride in the truck and do very limited walking. If there weren't any vertuals we would not be able to cache at all for months. I wish there were more near my home to go see. I hope they stay. We used to be directionally challenged, now we have a GPS, and are high-tech directionally challenged. At least now we know where we are when we are lost.
  2. Does this mean the stamp was lifted by cat burglers?? We used to be directionally challenged, now we have a GPS, and are high-tech directionally challenged. At least now we know where we are when we are lost.
  3. My husband and I are both Engineers and work all week, most of our caching is done on the weekends. We used to be directionally challenged, now we have a GPS, and are high-tech directionally challenged. At least now we know where we are when we are lost.
  4. My husband and I were caching in a park, we had just put the cache back and I popped out of the bushes onto the trail and there is a guy standing there looking at me from about 6 feet away. Since I am only about 5'2" (the size of a 14-15 yr old kid) I was a bit nervous, and the guy was looking at me with a weird look on his face and had a stick the size of a bat in his hand. He didn't say anything and didn't move. A minute later my 6'4" 240 lb husband popped out of the bushes and the guy starts smiling at him and stammering something about looking for turtles. We actually had a good laugh over this one. Turns out to be a harmless situation, just glad the hubby was with me. We used to be directionally challenged, now we have a GPS, and are high-tech directionally challenged. At least now we know where we are when we are lost.
  5. I'd call it risky. lol My husband and are both engineers and have better plans for geocaching than most building contractors have for building a building. Always have plan A and just in case......plan B. We used to be directionally challenged, now we have a GPS, and are high-tech directionally challenged. At least now we know where we are when we are lost.
  6. Sorry to hear of such a tragic loss. His actions say a lot for his character, what an honorable man. We used to be directionally challenged, now we have a GPS, and are high-tech directionally challenged. At least now we know where we are when we are lost.
  7. We are fairly new to this, and have less than 10 finds. I have logged our finds, but to be honest, I never even looked at anyones stats to see how many finds they have. It really doesn't matter to me either way. They could have 1 or 1000. No difference to me. If people want to add false logs to drive up their stats, there probably isn't a lot that can be done about that, but then again who really looks at those numbers. If someone is doing this, it sounds like they have some issues going on. We used to be directionally challenged, now we have a GPS, and are high-tech directionally challenged. At least now we know where we are when we are lost.
  8. one for me. We used to be directionally challenged, now we have a GPS, and are high-tech directionally challenged. At least now we know where we are when we are lost.
  9. That is a great shot. I would have given my gps to be there. I am glad you're ok and the only shot you took was with the camera. I am a huge fan of the big cats, but living here in FL I will probably never see one. Too many people shot with a gun instead of a camera and now the FL Panther is all but extinct. With only a handful left in the whole state, chances of seeing one are somewhere between slim and none. We used to be directionally challenged, now we have a GPS, and are high-tech directionally challenged. At least now we know where we are when we are lost.
  10. Sounds cool, I'm in. We used to be directionally challenged, now we have a GPS, and are high-tech directionally challenged. At least now we know where we are when we are lost.
  11. ok, we missed this one, maybe next time. We used to be directionally challenged, now we have a GPS, and are high-tech directionally challenged. At least now we know where we are when we are lost.
  12. Don't know if this will help you but....my husband and I dive and hunt for sharks teeth. I created our signature geocard on the computer and include a card with a shark tooth we found in each cache we visit. The teeth are just something we do, not really related to geocaching at all, but it's us. We used to be directionally challenged, now we have a GPS, and are high-tech directionally challenged. At least now we know where we are when we are lost.
  13. It might be a bad one, mine has never done that before. We used to be directionally challenged, now we have a GPS, and are high-tech directionally challenged. At least now we know where we are when we are lost.
  14. We have paid our $30.00 to become a member here, and thought that was dirt cheap for all the services offered. That is our opinion based on our income level. We have a memeber of our family that wanted to geochache very much, but the cost of a gps and the 30 bucks might as well been a million dollars. My husband and I bought them a gps and took them out to show them the ropes. Did I hook them up to this board? Yes Have they joined and paid the $30 dollars? No. Do I think any less of them for this? NO!!! Do we care that it doesn't say member under our name? NO We are very new to this sport and board, and view it as a group of people all interested in the same thing. We really don't care who has paid the 30 bucks and who has not. Thanks for listening to my .02. We used to be directionally challenged, now we have a GPS, and are high-tech directionally challenged. At least now we know where we are when we are lost.
  15. We always leave our sig item, (our geocard fridge magnet and a shark tooth) but carry many other trade items just in case there is something in the cache we like. We always try to trade up, I have noticed in some of the logs I watch, our trade items go out to the next person visiting the cache. We used to be directionally challenged, now we have a GPS, and are high-tech directionally challenged. At least now we know where we are when we are lost.
  16. I love my garmin legend, also, my mom is now into caching and I bought her a legend as well. Very easy to use. We used to be directionally challenged, now we are GPS challenged. At least we know where we are when we are lost now.
  17. My husband and I both are heavy civil construction engineers. In other words we build the super highways and big bridges that we all use to go caching. We used to be directionally challenged, now we are GPS challenged. At least we know where we are when we are lost now.
  18. I had a palm, and then upgraded to an IPAQ. No complaints here. We used to be directionally challenged, now we are GPS challenged. At least we know where we are when we are lost now.
  19. My husband and I are both engineers in heavy civil construction and both place new and destroy existing bench marks. I have a desk drawer full of these things in my office. Never thought we might want to go find some of these elsewhere other than on the jobsite. We used to be directionally challenged, now we are GPS challenged. At least we know where we are when we are lost now.
  20. Being a newbie myself, did a lot of reasearch on this question. I ended up with an etrex legend with the puter cord for arund $160.00. Also just bought my Mom one of her own legends. Took a lot of hunting but that is the regular price for the gps. If you are interested shoot me an email and I will tell you where I found it. We used to be directionally challenged, now we are GPS challenged. At least we know where we are when we are lost now.
  21. We just started this but we would be in for this. Just have to figure out how to buy some TB's. We used to be directionally challenged, now we are GPS challenged. At least we know where we are when we are lost now.
  22. We are new to this, found our first 2 caches on Sunday. The first one had gotten wet and the stuff in it was covered with mildew. We cleaned what we could and put it in a ziplock. When we leave something we always leave it in a ziplock, but I noticed we are the only ones doing this in the caches we have seen so far. (We live in the humidity & rain every day state of FL) What do you all do?? We used to be directionally challenged, now we are GPS challenged. At least we know where we are when we are lost now.
  23. Buy a pair of shoes that are made of leather. Put them on, take the garden hose and fill them with water. mow the lawn, go for a walk, whatever but make sure you wear them untill they are dry. they will form to your feet like a glove. once dry, use some good boot oil on them. NOTE: IMPORTANT!!!! don't take them off wet - make sure they are dry. I break in all boots this way and have never had a problem.
  24. Ziplock makes a bag that holds 2 gallons. Your box should fit into that and that might help keep the h2o out.
  25. Read an article in the paper, looked cool, found this site, the rest is history, and sorry but I am another blonde.
