  1. Beneath Old Tire Beyond Our Time Beside Orange Tiger Beware Odd Text ... Or it is actually a robot
  2. I have two teenagers and, while they are good kids, they and their friends can often be oblivious to the world outside their small sphere. We do our best as parents but... the are teenagers. The social graces are still being refined and polished. I think you did fine by being patient and saving your father son moment for a more hospitable find. I think it would have been a rare thing indeed had the Teenagers said.. "Oh, hey Dad, bring your 8 year old caching with us and we will have a swell time!" It's what most parents dream their kids would do. In reality we just hope they are not having sex, smoking or raiding our liquor cabinet...
  3. Dude ! 300 X apprx. $5... If my wife reads this... she is going to make me get a new hobby !
  4. Buy a MINI Cooper... Makes Driving a lot more fun !
  5. I am extremely disappointed In Florida's lack of representation here. I not only thought underwater caches would be more prolific but that Florida would be a leader based on the shear availability of optimum sites which includes a tons of easily accessible springs. As much as I would like to place a SCUBA one, I think a cache that is achievable with snorkel gear is more inclusive. As I learn more about proper placement rules I plan to make a few underwater ones, one fresh one salt, that will do our state proud ! Besides... its freakin' hot as hell and wet down here anyway from the non-stop summer of rain... might as well be in the water.
  6. Maybe I'm looking at it wrong or being too shallow... I don't have a lot of time to research things and generally I just accept my thre$hold of pain for a gadget and then pri$e dictates what I get. Once I decide how much I can spend there are usually only a few choices, then its another shallow decision of looks or a popularity contest.
  7. As most know....sometimes Unicorns go into "Stealth" mode. It may just be re-charging its magical horn or may be waiting to unveil itself to a worthy Cacher... unicorns are funny that way.
  8. Note to self... Throw-Downs = Bad GeoLitter = Not a bunch of baby Geo's I actually like ThoDowns over Throwdowns... feels more Gangstah !... yo
  9. Has anyone created a Cache hidden in a Gravestone? I am considering creating one for myself when I die... with a spooky sounds audio trigger to enhance the creepy factor.
  10. Doh... I should have read this thread backwards !
  11. Since I am a photographer by profession when I am Geocaching I feel like I need to take a break and relax from all the gear so I just use my iPhone and if I want to get fancy I will bust out the OlloClip lens for it. If am visiting someplace EPIC I will take my Nikon D800, 24-70 lens and my small Slik Table-Top Tripod. ( the Tripod is also awesome to help stabilize any hand held video I take with DSLR. )
  12. Thanks for the feedback everyone... I had not considered contacting the owner and I'm learning that GeoCaching and the community is a LOT more interactive than expected. Not necessarily a bad thing and I will definitely take that into consideration when planning my own Cache.
  13. So I am new to Geocaching and still wrapping my brain around the etiquette, terms and language. I have researched a few planned Caches and see there are potential trackable items that I can get closer to their mission targets in my upcoming travels. I know that the idea is to get trackable's on their way and keep them moving but I may not be traveling to that destination until next month or longer... Is there a general rule or etiquette for how long is too long that I can use when considering taking a trackable? ... and yes, I know an answer is... "Just do it as fast as you can...", I'm looking for solid opinions like "If it's gonna be longer than two months... leave it." because that was my first guess at the maximum time to hold on to it.
  14. I don't think it was Keystone's explanation that took the fun out of it. I think that happened with the earlier comment: Dude ! Slammed on my first post... your such a a Dog !
  15. Originally from Alabama transplanted to Florida since 1980. Photographer, Traveller, Life Student. Lurking for specific information and to get the lay of the land. I use forums the old fashioned way... for Questions, Ideas, Problems, and to keep apprised of Announcements... and an occasional well intended non-malicious zinger.
  16. Slang is a funny thing and the term "Dog" can mean many things depending on context. For instance... I had a college friend that we called a Dog in the sense that he was a "player" or fast and loose with the female gender. For a while the term Dog was very much urban slang for Buddy, Homie, member of one's peer group or gang. In this instance Keystone probably meant it in a quasi-negative connotation that some reviewers are a bit harsh or less than pleasant in their posting approach. I don't think it is crossing the line rude... I think it is probably an accurate description of any forum or cluster of humans. Every forum has its: Hoovers - someone who reads almost everything but doesn’t contribute anything. Lurkers - one who registers on the forum but doesn’t post. Trolls - Definition not fit for print Would-be Royalty – posts everywhere and expects a response immediately, and for the mods to act as their personal consultants. Touters - lurks until they see an opportunity to tout for business. High Maintenance - High Maintenance Good Citizens - these members ask questions but are clearly respectful and appreciative of others’ time. And then there are the: Lemmings Saccharine Shebas Garrulous Gerties Core Dumpers Lame Losers Mindless Optimists Monomaniacs Jaded Professionals Guru Wannabes Control Freaks News Junkies Frequent Fliers Rainbow Cool Dudes Resident Cynics
