  1. as I already mentioned in another thread (not knowing about this one): I would appreciate that feature much! It would also help to reduce traffic on the servers. goldensurfer
  2. Hi everyone, here's a little feature request with big benefit ;-) Would it be possible to include a tag into the xml structure of the pocket queries that shows if a cache has images or not? For example: <Groundspeak:cacheimages> <Groundspeak:cacheimage title="Spoiler">http://img.geocaching.com/cache/fe4bfd9e-29a2-4663-902a-cb3f1ce4c78b.jpg</Groundspeak:cacheimage> <Groundspeak:cacheimage title="View from cache">http://img.geocaching.com/cache/4967194d-db92-49f6-80a0-ae0b056984fe.jpg</Groundspeak:cacheimage> </Groundspeak:cacheimages> The reason for that request is that in Germany, many caches can only be found when the images are present. So if you're going out with a GPS device or a piece of hardware that uses PocketQueries, these caches often can not be found, because the images are missing. One example is GC20489, but there are many more. By now, to know if a cache contains images, you have to open the cache detail page on geocaching.com and have a look at it. So I think adding these informations to the pocket queries would also help to reduce traffic to the geocaching.com website. Thanks in advance, goldensurfer
  3. Hi folks, I think there's a small error in the implementation of the KML export of bookmark lists. If we have a look at a bookmark-list's URL, it reads for example: http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.a...66-d4a6be1c5d8d If we replace "/bookmarks/view.aspx" by "/kml/bmkml.aspx", we get: http://www.geocaching.com/kml/bmkml.aspx?b...66-d4a6be1c5d8d as the new URL Now we go to http://maps.google.com and enter the above URL into the search field. The bookmark list is being displayed in GoogleMaps (without having to install GoogleEarth). But we also seen an error: "parts of http://... could not be displayed due to errors", and see the blue standard flag displayed instead of the according cache item. The lines causing the errors are: <Style> <Icon> <href>http://www.geocaching.com/images/kml/traditional.png</href> </Icon> </Style> Embedding the <Icon> tag in a <IconStyle>-Tag solves the problem: <Style> <IconStyle> <Icon> <href>http://www.geocaching.com/images/kml/traditional.png</href> </Icon> </IconStyle> </Style> I have no idea if the GoogleEarth application can cope with that code - I haven't installed it. If so, maybe someone could update the code on the geocaching.com website that generates the KML files?
  4. Now it works. If anyone else has the same problem, do the following: - enable java script - if you use adblock, go on any geocaching.com-cache-description-page and click on "whitelist this whole site" in the adblock options menu - erase private data (cookies etc.) In my case, I think I was using the google maps feature on another site before, maybe the browser mixed up some cookies or session ids or anything else. After clearing the cache and cookies and a restart of the browser, it works. Thanks for the new feature. Especially the thing with displaying all caches in the neighborhood is very useful for planning a cache tour!!
  5. The feature works fine on Firefox 1.0.3 and SuSE Linux, but I've got the following problem using firefox 1.5.0.3 on Windows XP: Whenever (after login of course) I display a cache description page, at the beginning of the rendering process a dialogbox is displayed, saying (I try to translate it to english): "The Google Maps API key used on this website was registered for another website. You can create a new key for this website at http://www.google.com/apis/maps/ " Clicking okay loads the page, then another error is displayed: "Sorry, the Google Maps API is not compatible with this browser". Then I see the old-fashioned map on the right and the link-box "Find other caches..." on the left. In the middle, there's just a green box with no functionality. Clicking the link "google maps" in the "for online maps"-box displays the google map without problems. I thought the adblocker of firefox was responsible for the effect, so I disabled it, but to no avail. Anyone here having the same problems? thank you in advance!
  6. Hi there, just a short note: when building pocket queries, I just saw the country "Anguilla" appearing twice in the country list. On the normal search page (search by country), it's listed only once (as it should be). bye, goldensurfer
  7. Isn't the "photographer's cache" (GC382C and nine others) a classic locationless cache by definition? They are listed as mysteries. Why?
  8. Background sound is proprietary, and not HTML standard. Besides that, background sound is annoying when viewing a webpage. If I want sound while surfing, I play a CD or mp3 file. Thank you, Jeremy!
  9. I was wondering why the statistics ("List of items found" in my profile) shows another total number of caches found than the list I get when clicking on the link "All cache finds". I did a little research and found out that on the "all cache finds"-List, the locationless caches are missing. Does anybody know why? Thx, goldensurfer

    Maps Lost?

Yes, the same thing in Germany. (I'm talking about the maps that appear between the cache description and the logs, for example look here)
  11. I (living in germany) bought three TBs on a dutch website Look here. If you don't speak dutch (neither I do), write to goodiesshop (at) geocaching.nl in english. I ordered three travel bugs for 7 EUR each, without paying any shipping or something else - just 21 EUR. You'll get the bugs along with a bill which you pay after the bugs arrived. Have a nice day, Ralf
  12. quote:I'm having problems with using the "~" symbol in an HREF statement ... this seems to work today, at least the link to your MEEC page works. Anyway, I don't know if "~" is a regular character in HTML; I would use %7E instead (http://www.udayton.edu/%7Emeec/) (Remark: With %xx where xx is the hex-coded ASCII value of a character, you can exchange any character in an URL, even whitespaces) -- eCiao Ralf aka goldensurfer
  13. Hi, I posted a new topic with subject "Partnerschafts-Cache" in the German Speaking forum, but could not find it in the list of all topics after I submitted it. Then I did a find / advanced search and searched for all posts in forum "German Speaking" with Author Name=goldensurfer I found my post on top of the list, but when I tried to click on the subject link in the list, I only got an error "the page you requested is not available". Please try yourself and click on "Topic: Partnerschafts-Cache". So where's my posting? Only included "half" in the system? -- eCiao Ralf aka goldensurfer
  14. BeachBuddies - at least in the first img-tag you should try to replace the single quote ' around the image URL with double quotes. quote:Originally posted by BeachBuddies: I entered this: <table cellspacing=1 cellpadding=2> <tr><td><image src='http://img.Groundspeak.com/user/47667_2600.gif'></td><td nowrap>Dogs Allowed</td></tr> [...] -- eCiao Ralf aka goldensurfer
  15. Hi Geocachers, you need coordinates? Have a look at this site: http://www.nima.mil/gns/html/index.html Click on "Download Names Files for Countries and Territories (HTTP)" - you will see a list of most countries of the world. Just click on the country you'd like coordinates from and download a compressed archive of all it's coordinates. Greetings from Germany, goldensurfer
  16. Hi, first: I'm very new to geocaching. I found this site two days ago using a search machine, looking for gps coordinates - well, thus it goes :-) I'm using a GPS since 2000 - bought it on a stay at US. Now I think, finally there's a really great game going on where I can use it! I didn't find time searching for a cache so far, but I will have lots of time searching for caches in Austria, where I will spend my holidays this year. Of course I want to hide a few caches there, too. My question: in the FAQ I read that a cache-owner is responsible for his cache, has to look for his cache from time to time. Is it a must? Living in germany, 500 kilometers away from austria, won't make it easy to look for the caches every few weeks Regards, GoldenSurfer
