  1. FWIW, I bought a 450 fairly recently from the US (I live in NZ) - had no problems whatsoever, found it very easy to get free local maps (autorouting and topo) - and not illegal copies, but third party free (open) maps. I'm very happy with my purchase - got a mount for my motorcycle (made by RAM Mounts) at the same time - so I now have a waterproof GPS for te bike as well a a geocaching tool. For me it was standing in a field in the dark and rain, with my Blackberry getting far to wet that pushed my into making the right decision. Officially imported units in NZ are way more expensive than those available in the US - including shipping costs - so go for it!
  2. Here is a screen shot of all 3 displayed, zooming in any further does not show any additional anything, if you keep zooming in all there is is the cache icon in a field of green. poo. I know NZ is pretty green - but that's just ridiculous! Auckland is NZs biggest city real shame there's not even major roads shown (the two roads don't count!) Out of sight out of mind... are the maps in (I'm guessing BC Canada?) pretty good - magellan seem to have lots of love for people in North America - us poor anipodeans don't even get our emails, tweets and facebook messages answered
  3. Interesting - I had actually considered buying the magellan GC for the 5yo and saving up for an Dakota (or maybe stretch to an oregon) a little later on. Figure I could "borrow" the GC in the meantme. Real shame about the basemap though with the look of it...
  4. Thanks for that Savant - would you kindly be able to provide screenshots (zoomed in) of the following cache locations? GC2NBN5 GC2ANH9 GC11AEG
  5. Hi all... Looking at two GPSr's atm - a geomate.jr for my daughter's 5th birthday (she loves caching) and a Magellan eXplorist GC as a backup to my Blackberry my questions: 1. Can the Geomate.Jr be changed to m/km from ft/mi ? 2. How good is the basemap for New Zealand on the GC 3. Has anyone come up with a way to change the basemap on the GC Anything I should know about either of these?
  6. Not sure of other reasons, but I for one (and a number of other i believe - for maps outside the US) were getting map crashes with the new system... so I'm happy we went back. optins on the mpas would be good - the best suggestion I read on the forums was that the developers had a 'playpen' to test these things out (like google labs). I find the map invaluable - pleasr don't break it again!!!!
  7. I recently changed my name and it's painless. Only mistake I made was to get too impatient!!! - give it a good few days (especially if it's over a weekend - I sent my request on a friday, and was answered on wednesday) - I guess the guys that do the maintenance are off caching on the weekends Once your name is changed, even your login cookie stll works (ie if you clicked remember me, you still auto-login) Good luck!!
  8. ...Back to the Blacklight ----- why???
  9. I use a BT gps, and a palm treo windows mobile ppc...Beeline GPS is a pretty good app for the ppc - it will take gpx/loc and other files, and also has great gps functionality - including caching specific features, wp averaging etc.
  10. Looks like the "EO.Web Controls Client Side Debug Message" that some (me included) are getting (in both IE and Firefox on XP and Vista) is related to areas... If i "search with google maps" - so the map starts off somewhere in the US, I ca nsee caches and the infamous vlue blobs. If I search in my own area - as soon as I zoom out or pan to where there are some chaches, I get the error - and it breaks the map - just showing "requesting geocaches" and never refreshing...
  11. Garmin Que, or the more recent Garmin Mobile XT software will show you a map (if purchased/availalble) with real time position. For caching purposed, I use a PPC (Palm Treo 700wx) with Garmin Mobile XT (used for the road parts to get me to the nearest carpark etc in urban caches - you can load gpx's through mapsource, then BeeLineGPS as paperless caching and GPS software
