  1. How much bandwidth info are we talking about? I agree this would be a useful feature
  2. You couldn't pay me to watch a pirates game, and I live 20 mins from PNC Park. You have to try really hard to have 18 straight losing seasons.
  3. Telling your neighbors not to worry about strangers poking around your house just seems very unwise to me.
  4. This was great news. Even better here in PA we repealed our ban on carry in state parks, so federal parks are now open too. The change is supposed to mirror the states policy on state parks. Just remember though, this only open spaces. Don't go entering any building, those are still covered under the ban on carrying in any federal government building. Many small historic houses and such are considered federal parks.
  5. I don't believe Verizon allows 3rd party apps to access the GPS functionality in its phones.
  6. One note.. When you click on a hotel listing, down at the bottom of that page where it lists "Nearby Geocaches", it is comming up with unpublished caches too. At least it did when I did a look up on one of my caches. http://www.geocaching.com/hotels/hotel.aspx?hotelid=28675 I just noticed too that each time you refresh that page it comes up with a different list of caches, and on that list one of the caches that came up was archived in 2005
  7. As someone mentioned earlier these little tubes are frequently used for night sights for pistols. I have trijicon night sights on both my carry guns and neither my right hip or left ankle has yet to become deformed in any way.
  8. Funny thing is in PA state parks its a rather easy processes to get a cache approved...yet state parks are one of the very few places your prohibited from concealed carry by law. If your worried about your 2nd amendment rights move over here to PA. We have the 2nd or 3rd (forget which) highest rate of gun ownership (per capita) of any state, and have some rather open gun laws.. edit... I see you live in CO, nevermind the moving part. I would love to move back to CO. I was stationed at Ft.Carson for 4 years. Being able to sit in the backyard and watch the sun go down over pikes peak every night was just awesome.
  9. "And remember there's never a fee unless we get money for you" A little inside joke, seeing as this happened in my area (Western PA)..
  10. I use a pair of Black Diamond Compact Poles I'm a little guy (5'6) so they work great for me, and when the terrain is smoother they collapse down really short to hang on my pack, when I want to use one or none.
  11. FWIW...I carry (or have withing arms reach) my Glock 23 24/7 everywhere where I'm legally allowed to, which luckily here in PA is pretty much anywhere. The OP in that thread made a seriously bad choice to confront them IMO. If I saw them before they saw me I'd back off and call the police. I personally wouldn't confront someone over something that is easily replaceable. I've been carrying for going on 8 years and have only once partially drew on someone. A guy came after me with a k-bar type looking knife coming out of wal-mart at about 3am (i used to work nights at UPS when I was in school), I only got my Glock about half way out of the holster and he took off running rather quickly.
  12. Nice avatar. I was a 31S when I was active duty.
  13. Lets not forget getting banned over bad imitations of Dr Seuss and burning a film cans on a guardrail..... Right Keystone?
  14. Ruger Alaskan? I shot one of those in 454 Casull a few weeks ago, that was fun I would love to get one of them, but can't justify buying a gun I won't use. Around here a hot 10mm will take care of anything you meet in the woods.
  15. No. When I was in the military we had to wear these with the old style BDUs.
  16. Just curious what sidearm does your dept use?
  17. Getting a carry permit isn't impossible in California, only two states IL and WI have blanket bans on concealed carry. I had one when I was living in the hellhole of Barstow (stationed at ft.Irwin), but it sure as heck wasn't easy to get. Not to mention all the silly laws to go with it, and that the state has no preemption on gun laws. I'm just glad I'm in PA now.. Despite being a blue state we have some of the least stringent gun laws in the country. EDIT Kit Fox... I noticed your profile says your occuaption is a "Custody Officer", so do you fall under the LEOSA act then? You shouldn't need to worry about a carry permit if you do.
  18. Does any of Garmin's handheld units at all have bluetooth??
  19. I have a PN-20 and the auto routing leaves much to be desired on that unit. Its not that bad though, it may take a min or two to calculate a route, but remember for the price of the PN-20 you get the auto routing, and topo map for that matter, for free with the unit.. With either of the Garmin units you list City Navigator will run you around $80ish on top of the price of the GPS. edit.. Question 2 ... No handheld unit that I know of does anything but make beeps or other little noises, don't expect a handheld unit to do voice directions.
  20. A lot of those refrub units might be returns through Delorme's 30 day no questions asked return policy. I don't know if that's the case, but it sounds plausible at least. So there may have never even been any problems with those unit, other then someone didn't like it.
  21. I got a Venture HC GPS about 6 months ago. It has been working great until recently I've been having a problem. Sometimes (not always though) when on the map page and the map is zoomed out beyond the 1.2mi scale, the bottom half of the map will be covered with little blue X's. The map is still there but the X's are over top the map display. I uploaded all the local topo maps when I first got the unit and haven't messed with the maps loaded on to the unit since then. Additional info: Software V. 2.70 GPS SW V 2.60 TOPO 2008 Mapsource version 6.13.7 I'm well within the area covered by the more detailed maps loaded in the unit Any ideas why its doing this?
  22. I'm sure lep knows too that his home town is host to the big furry convention every year.. http://www.anthrocon.org/
  23. You don't wanna know how much I paid for tickets for tomorrow to go see the Penguins most likely get humiliated by the Red Wings, in the Stanley Cup Finals, for the third game in a row.
