  1. Hi all, As for Australia, NZ, Canada and USA, do you guys think it may be a good idea that someone contact the developers at Geocaching and see what is the posibility of adding our provinces as part of the cache details for South African caches.? Your view on this please.
  2. Star Light has now been put in snail mail. Expected date for arrival on the other side is on Wednesday, 22 December. Star Light, Star Bright, just go at the speed of light!!!

    Help Please!!!

Hi there, I am from South Africa, in a town called Alberton, approx 20 kms south of Johannesburg. I need help logging a locationless cache GC3153 Where's In A Name?. I could use assistance from anyone that will be near West 93°18.464. I would need a picture of your GPS showing the coordinates and the surrounding area. (atleast one picture) And some information about where it is. This can be logged as a find for both parties involved. And if you need help in South Africa let me know as I might be able to help you find your name here. Please email me if you can help me out! Thanks! Petrus (Team Warthog)
  4. I have send an email directly to you, but must have gotten lost because I had no reply. I am definately interested in a few travelbugs, will take two or four, whatever are available. Please indicate how I go about making payment, collecting, etc. I live the the Gauteng area
  5. We will be visiting the Natal / Durban area for our annual December holiday. We will be brining down a cache to place. Any suggestions on an area to look at for placing. We would prefer along the coast or alternately a Nature Reserve or Park (in that order)
  6. A suggestion as far as the bugrace is concerned, which from a South African perspective may add a bit of sparkle. Maybe the South African geocachers must each pick their "favourite" to win the race (at the start of the race obviously) and you then add this to the website. We can then see who was the "winner" in predicting the bugrace winner. And my favourite to win is...

  8. Have been watching this with a keen eye. Can't wait for this one to take part!!!
  9. Where do you intend visiting South Africa?
  10. While on the subject of GPX files and GASK, is the only way to obtain GPX file downloads from Gecaching, to become a Premium member or is there another way?
  11. South Africa does not have a place to purchase TravelBug Tags and to purchase from the UK is a bit expensive. I was wondering if there is someone that may be visiting South Africa in the next few months and that could possibly bring a few Travelbug Dogtags with. Payment can then be made here in South Africa in Rands. Any takers?
  12. I have now resolved my problem. Our company has recently installed "web access" software which does not allow access to certain websites. Eventhough the actual "mapquest" site is not blocked, somewhere in the background it must be going via another site which is on our list of blocked sites. This now only mena that I will have to wait until after work to download/print maps. Thanks to all who tried to resolve/find an answer to the problem.
  13. I am unable to view Mapquest Maps from the Geocaching link. Even typing in co-oridnates on the actual Mapquest page, does not show any map. It only shows the cross, like when viewing a webpage where the picture file (jpg, gif, etc) is missing. Anyone else experieincing a similar problem?
  14. Hi all, Is there a place in South Africa that sells Travel Bugs, or must we import from overseas. If so, where do we import from?
  15. Hi there, I think this would be a great idea. Maybe now that you have obtained the points (are they all the points in South Africa?), you must become the "30th Meridian Master" and work out some form of way to release these points, i.e. only a few at a time/per week/month, so as to keep the interest going.
  16. I previously looked at the Premium membership for Geocaching, so that I may have the cache info available offline. This did not prove satisfactory to me and I then created an Excel spreadhseet containing all the relevant cache information. I also printed the webpage info, map, etc. to PDF format (PDF print tool available for free download), which I added as links to the Excel spreadsheet. Obviously it needs updating, but now that the groundwork was done, it only takes me about an hour a week to have the spreadsheet up to date (usually doing it on a Monday). This at least gives me something acceptable to work with offline from the internet. I am however looking at converting this into a VB application, but at the moment I do not have the time for it.
  17. I agree with you there. I made it September hoping that the Spring would encourage the cahcers to get "out there", but summer would be fine. I think that it must then be before the holiday season starts. Maybe some of the other cachers can start giving an indication of who are keen in joining this event.
  18. How about a first for South Africa? Or has this been done before? Let's see if we can get as many willing Geocachers together and then on a specific day (i.e first Saturday in September) see how many caches we can hide on a single day. My suggestion is that we ask Peter Scholtz to be the Chief-in-Charge (seeing that he organized the first Event cache as well.) What do you say Peter? We can then forward Peter a list of all the known geocachers (that we have seen accessing caches so far). Peter can then contact everyone to see how many would be interested in joining in such a day. Or they can add their names here. Maybe we can then arrange for a global (worldwide) cache day in the future. Does anyone have an idea of what the most caches were on a single day anywhere in the world? I think with the size of the USA, they must do around the tens a twenties quite easily.
  19. Hi to all the geocachers in the Western Cape, I will be visiting the Western Cape during the December School holidays and would definately not have enough time to do all the caches in the Western Cape. How about the guys from "down south" rate there caches and give me there top 20 list of caches. I would then combine each persons list and report back after 1 to 2 months on the overall list. This would give me a great idea of which caches are a definate must to visit. I would also apreciate a list of waypoints for other interesting places to visit, i.e. Two Oceans Oceanarium, Best wine farms, etc. In return, I will bring down a cache and hide it somewhere in the Western Cape (not Cape Peninsula, there are enough there) in return for the information. Regards Warthog
