  1. I am glad that someone else asked this. I have been antsy the past few days, because I want to go find some caches, but my husband wants to wait for his next paycheck before buying a GPS. Now I can go and find the one up the road. It is a simple one, or it looks that way. I guess I will find out! Go for it! I actually get to guide my daughter to caches every so often when she's out without her gps and I'm at home with google earth. It's fun for me! And I've hunted a few that way. One of my sons does too. I have actually listed I think 60r 8 finds with out a GPS. All of them have been in the city. have two I have gone back to a couple of times to look and not found. haveing a blast looking though.
  2. K new to this wish to under stand difficulty level better so answer me this please A brain dead follow this trail would constitue a one now haveing to hike a trail 3 days round trip would be what. Or Go to cawardinents X/Y which is in middle of no where being 1 full day hike over forest terrain with moderate obstacle. An example of brain testing difficultie would be nice also. just curious thanks for your help.
  3. just tried it for first tiome today. did some urban ones and found three of five with out a GPS. So at least in the city I know it can be done. just by the clues. In the wilderness though like were I will most likely enjoy it the most there I do not know not unless it has alot of natural land marks to work off of like said earlier. GPS can get you with in 10 to lets say 60 feet at the ablsolute out side. map and compass at the out side might be a mile. Used to do this kind of game when I was in Army Cadets back home in Canada. but we would orienteer to a very noticable land mark and after getting in the area the land mark effectively told you where the cache was sitting. Figure the difference between this and that will be the large amount of more places you can send some one looking for a cache. cause what is this sport but really an excuse to get out and explore and have some fun. I know I blabber sorry got off topic a bit I think
  4. K I would like to buy me a GPS. I know nothing about them besides what they do and the basics on how they do it. Now love the sport is one more excuse to go out and hike and explore the country. and even harder urban one's but if I was to want to get one that would be pretty much dedicated to Geocacheing be able to do the downloads of waypoints for the comp and all that what would I buy. Just trying to keep cost down a bit. have a family and all. I am already a knowlegable orienteerer( or at least used to be it's been awhile) so gps is just a way to find the caches. Thanks stienthor
  5. just discovered geocacheing .com the other day thought it looked interesteing looked the sight over, gave it a try today in the city. Do not have a GPSR but did some simple park ones and a couple of harder ones that gave good clues. out of five attempts found three simple ones. or should i say my 4 and 2 yr old did. Then went after a couple of harder ones with my four yr old son and only thing we accomplished was being striped. I figure I know where that one is but darn if I can find the access to it. Had to give up do to lack of time other plans this evening. But man I had a blast. seen alot of memphis I did not know about also.
