    Cacher Help

    My travel bug was picked up in Columbus, OH by Ryan9998 in 2012, and it wasn't logged properly or placed. He's not signed back in, nor replied to messages I sent requesting info on my bug. Does someone have any contact info on him or his parents? Here's his profile link: http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=6791ee05-9b92-45de-a9d2-a17c5de19cfd Please reply to gaylemae@gmail.com. Thank you
  2. I've had several bugs go missing. Rather than just letting them "die", their journey can continue to be logged by typing up a new tag with the old TB number and laminating it, and attach it to a keychain. I then change the description and add a new photo, and mark that it's been replaced. I've had one go missing for the second time, and I plan on doing the same thing. As long as you put a "note" on the item page, it allows people to know that it's been lost and replaced.
  3. I placed an order for a GeoGem and some pins that say "I've geocached in (Abbreviation of State)" from GH Quality Products, 40 Phillips Road, Newton, NJ 07860 at www.CHQualitycoins.com, Phone 862-266-7623. Some of the items were shipped, but all were charged to my credit card, when they notified me several were backordered in September 2008. I wrote and called every month since then. Last response from the company was October 2008, saying that production on the pins would be "soon", and did I want the GeoGem shipped out now, since it was back in stock. I replied that I would like my GeoGem shipped. Never received anything. If the company advertised on Geocaching.com, is there another means of contacting them if they won't reply to a customer who paid them? It's way past the time to ask for a credit card refund, and I'm super bummed I've been ripped off.
  4. Is there a possible way to map what caches might have perished in the fires in Australia? I have two bugs over there in caches for months, with no new logs, and I've gotten no response from the owners. I don't want to bother them, since they might have suffered greater losses than a cache container. But it might be helpful in identifying the possible areas that are affected, like when Katrina hit. Thanks!
  5. The risk is there, no matter what you place the tag on. I'm on my 3rd replace of some of mine. I just keep making a new tag, and putting it into a laminated luggage tag, mark it "replacement" and get it out circulating again. Perhaps if you do a search on Google for the user ID of the bug you want to notify the owner about, it will show up that they posted something? I just found a guy who had a typo on his email, and got him to correct it. <<I agree, great idea! We want to release a few bugs and know the risk, but it does make you wonder if you should. The first bug we ever found was a cute bear from Canada that had been missing for 4 years. A parent released it with her child to watch it travel and then it got stuck. We have recently "unstuck" it and hope it keeps on a-travelin'! In the meantime, though, the person who released it gave up on it and hasn't been on this site forever. I hope she comes back to see her bug a-movin'! [/quote/}
  6. I have a missing travel bug, and it appears this new cacher has several and doesn't know how to properly log them. He's responded only to the cache owner, and states he's placed them, yet they still appear in his inventory. Hornwalker is a high school student from Redmond, OR. Does anyone know who he is, and can perhaps help him along on this? Please respond privately to coolg985@aol.com. Thanks.
  7. I gave a TB to someone in person, and for months, I've asked him to log it. Now he claims he put it a cache that was muggled, but he forgot to log it. Is there a way to search by his ID to find out if he actually did visit a cache recently that was stolen? I think he just kept the TB, because it was really cool. He claims he wrote the bug owner after it went missing, and got no reply. I did get a few emails from them, asking me to log it, since I was the last on record. I feel bad that I've unintentionally caused a bug to go missing.
  8. Does a MIA bug ever reappear? The one I made for my father had gone almost 12,000 miles. It was a brass jingle bell, had a laminated tag with mission, and the dog tag attached. Everything I thought would make it last as least as long as the remaining time my father has. Is it ok to reissue a missing TB?
  9. I think it's a great idea. Let me know when it happens. I'd love to be on the list for TN. Also, maybe have a listing on this forum to locate each states' oldest if you are traveling
  10. As for hotels, there is a Radisson that I've stayed at, and it's very nice. Good location, still close but far enough away, and private enough, to give you some separation from the burning smoke! You don't want to go out of downtown if you expect to find a place to park. If you have private parking, then you can stay anywhere off of 240 and avoid the long walk.
  11. Thanks, I will be looking for you! What a cute animation. GayleMae
  12. I would rather have metal, and you are always free to attach your own keychain split ring for durability. Any supplements should be encased in a laminated luggage tag (available from Target in the stationery department), for waterproof and permanent protection.
