  1. I'm a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) and I'll admit that while working night shifts I have looked for a few caches. I figure I have to check the parks and other places anyway so why not log a few smilies while I'm there. I have only seen one Cacher looking for a cache that I had found already but was on a call and unable to get over there until they were gone. I did look up the cache when I got home later and dropped them a note about seeing them.
  2. So if I understand this right, you are going to use a weighted bottle for the actual cache and attach it to a piece of wood as a marker. If you don't secure it in place somehow the wind and or any currents will cause it to float around and it won't be at GZ. If you just tie it to a low hanging branch it will stay in place
  3. Thanks Doc........ I'll keep that in mind and check into the Dell PDA's
  4. Thanks, I 've been on ebay and found some very good prices. I found a Palm T/X model at staples that I was able to play around with and I'll probably go with that one.
  5. I'm really leaning towards a PDA but stores only carry one or two models. They are being replaced/merged with Smart Phones. It's hard to tell if I like a certain model PDA if I can't see/touch it in person. Anyway thanks for the info...... like I stated, I don't want to hyjack this post
  6. We have those stores previously mentioned in this area but I got mine at West Marine. (A Marine Equipment store). Don't know if you have those in your area, but you could go to any local Marine supply store.
  7. I'm able to read pdf books on my touch using the free app 'Discover' Thanks that's what I thought...... It seems that I should be able to save the cache page as a PDF and pull it up to read when needed. I could also update it every so often by just replacing the file with new info. Thanks again, I trying to decide between the iTouch and a PDA.
  8. My son has an iTouch, quite a nice little gadget. I was thinking of getting one myself for paperless. I have a question that maybe someone can answer for me. (Don't want to hyjack the thread....just answer and get back on topic). From the GC site you can download and save pages in PDF format. Does the iTouch read PDF files or is it capable of doing by downloading the reader. I was thinking this would be the easiest way and you would be able to pull up the info even if you area not near WiFi. Thanks.
  9. Try this..... From main menu page go to Setup then Geocache. Check your symbols on the setup page for Find and Found. It should be a closed cache and an open cache respectfully. The GPSr recognizes these symbols and will download accordingly. As you find your caches if you go in and manually change the symbols to found they show up on a different list. Hope this helps......
  10. I've repaired a couple of caches. One was because I had broke it and it was the obvious thing to do. It was a magnetic Micro and I realized that the magnet had stayed in place when I pulled it from the hiding spot. So, I wouldn't have been able to place it back without first buying some glue and fixing it back to the way I found it. Super Glue or epoxy is an item that folks may want to include in their "Repair Kits".
  11. X2 on this, I have several caches in my area that have TB's missing from them and they still show in inventory.
  12. I searched for my issue with the Geocahe Website and was directed here. I don't have time to read through all the pages so can someone tell me if any of the glitches/bugs have been corrected???? I like the new look and the only problem that I'm having is that the decrypt feature doesn't work when you try and print the PDF page. I'm sure someone else here is having the same issue, and I want to know if and when it will be fixed. I haven't printed any out since this issue arose I have been handwriting the hint on a note pad.
  13. I ran two instant queries where they are suppose to delete themselves and they are still there. I can't find where to manually delete them and it won't let me archive them. Anyone know how to fix this or is it just going to be added to the other glitches GS is experiencing????
  14. I am also considering a U/W cache as well and these are both great ideas. I was thinking on making it like an earth cache where the finder either takes a photo of it or obtains a certain code to show proof of the find. Using a clear case such as in the photo would work great.
  15. I have this same thing happen. It's not a big issue to me and have never really tried to find out why its like that. But I would think that if you reset to factory defaults it would probably reset tiself.
  16. I use a 13 pocket expandable organizer. It came with pre-printed labels for putting them in alpha order. In the last pocket I can keep my GPSr, the DC auto adapter and some extra batteries. It zips shut so everything stays in place. The front also has a zippered mess pocket for other incidentals. When I pull up a cache on the GPSr I go to the folder and look it up alphabetically. Seems to work well so far, but I'm starting to see the advantages of Paperless. i.e....... once I print a cache out and I don't locate for several weeks there are more than likely new posts that may have some clues in them that I don't have until I look at the website. Plus it saves trees
  17. I think there is an echo in here I don't have anything yet but just ordered a window cling sticker earlier this evening.
  18. Here's what I normally use If I'm not using this I use my wife's Jeep Liberty 4X4...... Sorry no pics right now.
  19. That's great to hear...... I know how bad I would feel if I was lose my Garmin GPSr I would be LOST without it
  20. Add me to the list...... I'm a shift supervisor for Road Patrol in the Sheriff's Office here in Charlotte County, FL. I'll check out the website later. Anyone here other than me wiling to admit that they have found a cache while working I figure I have to check the parks anyway for homeless subjects and such and if I happen to find a cache while doing it, what the heck Wildbill
  21. I have a Garmin GPSMAP 60 CSx and it's great. Very popular for Geocaching and is capable of downloading Mapping software from Garmin that will give you a lot of features including turn by turn the other "road only" GPSr do. Go to Garmin website and check them out.
  22. Congrats......... You sent in an awesome photo and deserve the win. The Jeep Liberty's are great vehicles you and you family will enjoy it for years to come.
  23. I believe that there is a "Restore Defaults" in the menu. Now this will bring the GPSr back to brand new so I would transfer any wanted or needed waypoints to your computer.
  24. A '92 Wrangler, it's an ultimate go anywhere geocaching machine
  25. To get back to the original question......... There probably won't be one this year. JEEP has new owners and they are streamlining their promotions. JEEP used to have an event called CAMP JEEP annually and starting this year they are going to every other year. So the JEEP travel Bugs may be the same
