  1. thanks all for these great, helpful, and reassuring replies! g-o-cashes, let's hope garmin does let you order spares, just in case. cheers!
  2. The jog wheel on my 400 fell off. I can stick it back on, and it clicks into place relatively securely. But it could fall off quite easily again if brushed against. I'm away from home, about to leave on a trip, so I can't have the item returned for repair. Any idea what I can do? BTW the unit is fully operational - I just want to know if I should glue the wheel on - or do anything else. Thanks so much!
  3. @KyBadger5 the only garmin case i can find is their neoprene case which is bulky, doesn't strap the unit in, so it might slip out when you open it, and doesn't allow you to view the screen. i'm hoping garmin will come up with something else, but in the meantime i'm open to alternate suggestions. thanks again
  4. colorado customer service told me i'd have to buy an additional package for the normal retail price. afaik the latest city navigator only allows a single install.
  5. Note to Mods and the community at large: I've read the Forum Guidelines and Geocaching Terms of Use, and see no indication that this subject is prohibited. My sincere apologies if it is! I'm scandalized. OK, I'm a newb, you all knew this already. But the manual for my (French) GPS Topo CD reads, loosely translated: Important: This GPS Topo product confers a licence to be used with only one GRPS Garmin. Thus, should you wish to purchase a new GPS unit, be aware that you will also have to purchase new map software. Please keep this in mind when considering the purchase price of your GPS unit. I've never encountered such a restrictive license in any of the software I've bought. (Some software requires the installation CD to be present - other systems required a hardware key to be plugged in - but I can't think of software that wouldn't let you re-install on a new computer.) I'm currently evaluating two GPS units. I'm not sure which one I'll keep, and I'd like to run the GPS Topo on both to compare. Does anyone know of a workaround or a hack so I can (temporarily) install on more than one unit? Many thanks - and again, my apologies if this subject is verboten here! BTW Can any lawyers here say whether such a licence is legal?
  6. i agree with monstergolf. the case is bulky, heavy, doesn't hold the gps securely, and doesn't let you see the unit inside. which is why i'm looking for an alternative. I purchased the case for the CO. Not sure it is worth the $35. Has a clip to open and I can see this breaking. If it does it will open and the CO will fall out. There is no internal strap. The case comes with a carabiner clip.
  7. I'd be grateful for recommendations for carrying cases for the Garmin Colorados. Ideally it would be not too bulky, something like canvas, with a plastic cover allowing you to see the device without having to remove it. Thanks!
  8. great story, happy middle, happy ending. i only wish you could install all garmin maps on a back-up unit! (of course you're often limited to a single install.)
  9. thanks so much for all kind your replies. the maps in question are city navigator nt north america 2008, us topo 24k national parks east v. 3, and one of the french topo 3 maps. best!
  10. i own two different garmin gps units. the installation procedure for some maps asks for the unit's 10-digit serial number. is it possible to use the same map on two gps's concurrently? or do you have to (and if so, can you) uninstall on one and then reinstall on the other? thanks for your wisdom!
  11. sorry, posted this query on another thread - no reply... i know i'll feel dumb as soon as i get a first reply, but, will the colorado accept sdhc memory cards? i'm really grateful to everyone who's contributed to this fantastic thread!
