Note to Mods and the community at large: I've read the Forum Guidelines and Geocaching Terms of Use, and see no indication that this subject is prohibited. My sincere apologies if it is!
I'm scandalized. OK, I'm a newb, you all knew this already. But the manual for my (French) GPS Topo CD reads, loosely translated:
Important: This GPS Topo product confers a licence to be used with only one GRPS Garmin.
Thus, should you wish to purchase a new GPS unit, be aware that you will also have to purchase new map software. Please keep this in mind when considering the purchase price of your GPS unit.
I've never encountered such a restrictive license in any of the software I've bought. (Some software requires the installation CD to be present - other systems required a hardware key to be plugged in - but I can't think of software that wouldn't let you re-install on a new computer.)
I'm currently evaluating two GPS units. I'm not sure which one I'll keep, and I'd like to run the GPS Topo on both to compare.
Does anyone know of a workaround or a hack so I can (temporarily) install on more than one unit?
Many thanks - and again, my apologies if this subject is verboten here!
BTW Can any lawyers here say whether such a licence is legal?
