I have to pee and get to karate - and if there is a list or a way to get a copy of the private thread, please send it on over. I want to get in on the burning. This work thing sucks - no time to cache or read this nonsense! Shut up and cache! To summ it up in one sentence, jeremy is tired of the pirates and wants everyone to know it.
  2. Hints? what hints? Oh and did anyone see how many views this post is getting? Jeremy may need to purchase more bandwith or another server to keep up with the traffic.
  3. The simple truth is this guy is just plain rude. If someone places a cache and puts some good loot in it and he comes along takes the good loot and leaves nothing? Imo he is an A$$. I have complained about what has been left in caches before and was jumped on by alot of people because I haden't done many caches, and they were right. I am holding my opinion till I have at least 100 caches under my belt to post again on the topic. The way I am now looking at is I try and improve a cache if it is low on loot, most of my recent finds have been tn, left compess and flashlight or something like that. While its not great treasure it is better then what some had that were low for whatever reason. I like the fact that I may increase the next cachers experience by adding better loot. Personally I haven't really found anything that I would want, so why take anything at all, just leave something for the next person. Wait I did find something I really liked sorry, it was the "twin bridges cache pin" this person makes special pins and places it in the cache for all the finders.
  4. WOW I got home an hour ago and just finished reading the last page. There seem to be too many people interested in the private forum, only 23 allowed. I was wonderding if a special forum can be set up by the admin that would allow everyone interested in attending. I do not know what the requirements are or if it is the hosting service that needs to do this but I think it would be a good idea to get everyone in that wants in and not have cross talk between two forums. That would end up leading to way to many mistakes. Anyone here remember the gossip game where you tell something to one person they tell someone else? Anyway I still have mixed feelings about the issue, I can see both sides of it and both have good and bad points. I did however like the idea I saw posted about a pirate note being left in a cache with coords to a seperate cache for anyone wanting to do it. That way all orginal cache contents are left alone and a new cache is placed. Now I don't see why anyone would object to that, but I'm sure someone will. lol
  5. No need to worry mckee, we are not watching you either. yours truly the CIA
  6. That forum seemed much more heated then i felt necessary. The plain simple fact is we all have different views on most subjects and the fact that we cannot agree on one item is not tht big of a deal. Lets face it caches will be plundered, violated, and just plain stolen. We all have to deal with that, if we can in some small way stop some of the people doing this I think it is well worth the effot. If we can bring those on the "dark side" over to our point of view isen't it much better then just crying foul and bitc$$ng about it?
  7. When I cache i tend not to map it out, when I get close to the coords I just find a parking spot i think is ok. If it is illegal to park near the trail head I think the owner should state this. If however it is not illegal just a bit dangerous I think it is the cachers choice weather to park there or look for a better spot. I don't need maps I have coords!!! lol I love that tag line
  8. Cybo, no need to worry we aren't really watching you...yours truly the CIA
  9. quote:Originally posted by canadazuuk:A friendly pirate perhaps, using a site frequented by the same unfriendly pirates that are antagonizing cachers elsewhere. Yes a site may be used by both friendly and unfriendly people, but what site isen't? Do you agree with all the people who post here I now i sure don't. I post what I think most of the time, though I tone it down a bit for the weak at heart. I try and consider both sides and I figure thats one of my downfalls, I cannot be as one sided as some of the people that post here.
  10. When posting it is recommended not to post your age/gender. Just ask a question you want answered. DO NOT POST "anyone want to chat"!! As to anyone responding to this chat I will be watching and ask the admins to do the same.
  11. I'm not lashing out, but if you vote you should post your opinion one way or the other.
  12. quote:Originally posted by GoaTSniFFer:. You are correct, most of the time that is all it takes. The embarrassment alone usually prevents a reoccurance. I am having more of problem with our Europe divisions, mainly Germany, which is a whole different set of rules there. In the US, all 5 of our divisions are allowed 90 minutes total per day on the Internet. We open business links when requested, but they use quota time for news & sports, etc. - GoatSniFFer "Don't you hate it when the toliet paper rips?" http://www.texasgeocaching.com My company has sites in 27 countries, thank god i don't have to manage them!!
  13. The way I see it is I got away with alot from learning from my older brothers mistakes. I got away with alot more then he did, does that mean I will let anyone get away with what I did? Hell no!! It lets me prevent them from making the same mistakes I made, and lets them get away with alot less. I do not understand why a parent would think just because they got away with it it was right. I have done alot of stupid things in my life and would not want to see them repeated by my offspring.
  14. cach-o-matic, again that is a great approach if you live in the same state. What if you live 1200 miles apart?
  15. Goat I find that the first warning is usually enough to keep them from surfing again. I bring them into the office and show them the log file and they are usually way too embarrased to say more then "do I still have a job". After that they fly straight and even warn others about surfing. I fel thats a much better solution then just firing someone, you get the word out not to do it.
  16. Geo, safety is on your shoulders not the cache placer. If you think the paking coords are unsafe drive to a place you consider safe and walk the rest of the way. I'm not saying you are wrong for your opinion, but the final decision is yours on where you park, so if you feel it unsafe move on till you do feel safe.
  17. I voted no because trying to pretend a promblem doesn't exist does not make it go away. If you delete the logs some will think it is a new idea never before thought of and start it all over again. I don't think taking a position of hiding our heads in the sand is the right answer. We need to deal with this face on, some have been trying to intimidate the pirates, we know that will not work as they thrive on the attention. Some others have been trying to convert the pirates so as not to steal caches and have had some success. I subscribe to the belief hold your friends close but hold your enemy closer. Your worst enemy may become your closest friend, I've seen it happen.
  18. The problem is people don't think -- they panic and assume the worst. Jolly R. Blackburn http://kenzerco.com "Never declare war on a man who buys his ink by the gallon." hey I resemble that comment
  19. Yep we I've done one that we ended up just parking at the first trailhead we came to, then bushwacked up to the correct trail. It was a blast.
  20. Read my post 6 up from this one. I really do not expect this to make it to FL. it is more of an experiment to see how far it makes it. Read the entire thread, I stated my thoughts on weather it would make it or not. There is a difference between if a thief or a samaritan found it, the thief would keep it. I'm still open to take a geobet on how far people think it will make it. By the way my geobet is if I win I get to select a cache in your area you have to do, if I win you select one I have to do.
  21. Bug and Snake that was some post. I agree 100% the web is out there and is not going away, so we need to teach all the parents, not the children, to teach their children how to be safe. If the parents are involved then it is much less likely that the child will get into trouble. I have advised many parents with the companies I've worked with the best methods of doing this, and almost all have had positive results, though a few ended up with the comp being removed and hard feeling all around. I try and teach awareness of whats going on not censorship, if a child knows that the person on the other end of a teen chat room may be in his/her 30's then they are much less likely to agree to meet them. I try to not scare the child, but to inform them, and more importantly inform the parents that it can be dangerous and to just use common sense. You need to monitor your childs web and chat activity, no matter how much they protest. It is a simple fact that todays world is much more dangerous then it was when we grew up, we need to adjust and not bury our head in the sand.
  22. TeamX40 posted "I think we are confusing what we want to happen with reality. If you found a wallet and left it on a park bench for the owner to pick up, and someone came along and took it, would you be shocked? Probably not. Would you be incensed? Probably, if you thought only scum would pick up a wallet". I am never shocked when people do the wrong thing, I expect it, and have even been quilty of it when I was younger. If I was given too much money back from some clerk I'd smile and walk away, today I inform them of their mistake and correct it. It all has to do with the morals you develope as you mature. As for leaving a wallet on a park bench? are you insane? Just bring it home and mail it too the owner. As for cache mail, we all know about this game so your example doesn't really apply, if a cacher finds a traveler with written instructions on it there is no excuse to take it for himself other then that person is either: 1. stupid 2. A thief 3. Stupid Just a thought, be honest and truthful it usually pays off in the end. What comes around goes around.
  23. A bomb can now be made to look like anything you want it too look like if you have the proper experience to make it. One easy example is the nut with the shoe bomb on the plane, thank god he was too stupid to bring a lighter instead of a match.
