  1. A cache we once found says this on the page.

"Placed with permission of the country store. The other store owner knows about the cache also, but please don't bother them by asking them where the cache is. Thanks!"

So don't mention the name of the business and people can decide for themselves whether to visit it.

  2. Caches that were "found", later to be adopted by one of the finders is somewhat common, and is not incorrect.

I would guess it depends on whether or not one wishes to be "proper". :)

Maybe too, they might not actually understand the concept of a find (or don't really care)! B)

The 1st cache we ever found we later adopted and are now the owners, we consider that to be a valid find.

Now, a local cacher moved out town and adopted out all his caches.

Another cacher (the adoptee) mentioned he hasn't yet found the caches he now owns.

So though he now owns the cache , would his 'find' be valid ??

  3. HI. I have found 70 finds. When I started geocaching I just used my generic username of Jake340. Jake is my real name and I was wondering what people thought about that. Is it not reccommended to use your real name? and if so.....how might I change my user name.....any ideas of a new name? Please let me know if you think I should change my name as I love geocaching and lovvvve it and plan to continue.

I wouldn't recommend using Jake Smith-Jones, but there is nothing wrong with Jake340.

Many use something similiar a variation of their own name,

others use something which says something about them.

  4. LHS: What browser are you using?

    -Raine

    IE 7, Version 7.0.5730.11.

Though that is probably no longer relevant as I see in a later posting the problem is now fixed.

I'll verify that today I did NOT see the stray cache issue.

  5. I too am experiencing the random far-away cache issue on my PQ map.

The PQ does a 25 mi radius of Avon lake, OH and the random cache is GCAB2C located in the state of Washington.

The increase has allowed me to combine previous PQs and reduced the number than I need run for my preferences. Thank you for that.

  6. Even having explicit written permission to play Frisbee wouldn't give you immunity from prosecution if you hurt someone.
Along this line of reasoning, then clicking the "I agree" button would not give immunity to GC.com .

Huh? GC.com is just a listing site. It's kind of like me posting on Facebook that I'm going to be playing frisbee in my front yard. Everyone come on over for a fun evening.

Cool, the gang will be over tonight to plant some caches in your yard ;):laughing::lol:

  7. One suggestion: Have multiple copies of the tag at Stage 1, in case more than one person is on the hunt at the same time. This way the secon (or third?) seeker doesn't find an empty Stage 1.

Or if someone should 'lose' the tag on the trail or 'forget' to replace it on the way back out.

  8. I have the following GPS cordinates:

    -063 06 880 and 46 15 253

I am trying to convert it to Decimal Degrees which would be -63.114667, 46.254217 (thanks to http://www.boulter.com/gps/#-063%2006.880%2C%2046%2015.253) but can't figure out how.

    Anyone know?

using that link the results look ok.

Enlighten us, is this location South of Africa near Antarctica or near Nova Scotia

Any particular reason you need it in the requested format?

  9. Enquirying minds want to know:

    Cache Permanence

When you report a cache on the Geocaching.com web site, geocachers should (and will) expect the cache to be there for a realistic and extended period of time. Therefore, caches that have the goal to move ("traveling caches"), or temporary caches (caches hidden for less than 3 months or for events) most likely will not be published. If you wish to hide caches for an event, bring printouts to the event and hand them out there.

We realize that it is possible that a planned long-term cache occasionally becomes finite because of concerns with the environment, missing or plundered caches, or the owner’s decision to remove the cache for other valid reasons. Please do your best to research fully, hide wisely, and maintain properly for a long cache life.
