Getting pocket inquireies into my GPS
LightHouseSeekers replied to SilentGreenMan's topic in GPS technology and devices
The manual says you can attach to a computer as a 'mass storage device' So it should work the same as my Garmin Colorado. In separate windows open the PQ and the Oregon, then copy/drag the .gpx files of the PQ over to the Oregon. To delete a file you should just be able to go in and delete any .gpx files stored on the Oregon -
Finding your own cache
LightHouseSeekers replied to akkatracker's topic in General geocaching topics
Around here that is an acceptable practice to adopt a cache you have previously found. Still bad form to log a find on a cache that you placed originally. -
Caches along highways
LightHouseSeekers replied to BigfootMafia's topic in General geocaching topics
If is an Interstate type highway with restricted parking (except for emergencies) and no pedestrians, then NO. A rural type highway that you possibly walk along, then OK. -
Avatars now show in cache pages
LightHouseSeekers replied to Pup Patrol's topic in General geocaching topics
See it and don't see the point to having an avatar displayed on the cache page (we never created one anyway). Noticed our cache name is no split onto 2 lines above the avatar. -
The party reporting the OP to a reviewer may been concerned about the OP getting their underwear in a knot over a needs archive note on the cache page. They may have decided the private email was better than putting on the flame suit. IMHO: Seeing a NO TRESSPASSING sign would cause me to abandon a hunt.

I found a micro but what cache is it for?
LightHouseSeekers replied to railroader921's topic in General geocaching topics
My 1st step would be to record the coords for that location. Then do a search for nearest caches to see what pops up if anything. Next as others said try to match cacher names & dates to that area. If those all fail ask an area reviewer if that spot is clear for a new cache. -
SurveyCoordinates to GPS Coordinates
LightHouseSeekers replied to jasman444's topic in General geocaching topics
Another point to consider on the measurements. How long has CA been metric? Could that survey be ft/yds/in ? Just saying cause I believe the Canadian railroad system is still marked in miles even though roads are now marked with kilometers. -
Caches disguised as garbage
LightHouseSeekers replied to deranja's topic in General geocaching topics
A cache trash amongst more trash quickly earns a spot on the ignore list. Did like the lock-n-lock hidden inside a very weathered (20 yrs old) tin can out in the woods with no other trash around. -
Can a multi stage also be a traditional?
LightHouseSeekers replied to Hiekel Essterol's topic in General geocaching topics
Two traditionals coupled with a puzzle. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=801df4c9-fcee-4f37-b2f0-294129bf6ec8&log=y&decrypt= -
I found the cache writeup and hints very amusing.

Geocaching.com site update May 4th 2011
LightHouseSeekers replied to OpinioNate's topic in Geocaching HQ communications
Great annoyance only seeing the current line of type and none of the prior lines as we used to see when composing a mesg. -
D.N.F.? It's there though!

If its rated easy then: ignore/nm/na -
Waypoint Averaging vs. "Walk Away and Check" method
LightHouseSeekers replied to gsmX2's topic in General geocaching topics
They also left it of the Colorados. Which I always thought was stupid, even my Garmin GPS III had it. -
Waypoint Averaging vs. "Walk Away and Check" method
LightHouseSeekers replied to gsmX2's topic in General geocaching topics
When I place a new cache I usually take readings, then return the following day navigating to that waypoint for actual placement. If its the same spot (within a couple of feet)then I go with the 1st readings. Otherwise I may avg the spot again. depends on how obvious the hiding location may be. Sometimes a single reading is sufficient, sometimes multiple (using avg function) may be necessary for accuracy. -
DO you reviewers actually KNOW the area
LightHouseSeekers replied to Strange_Animal's topic in General geocaching topics
Could we have examples, please? I ask because one tool I used in the past (don't recall which one) didn't show the proper position of a RR line so I could make a placement far enough away. The same tool even showed existing caches to be on the opposite side of the RR line. -
Recycling at its best. Be sure to update the contact info on the container.

If you are planning on continuing in the 'game', you could probably also log a 'find' on this cache.
-
The phrase "Once you have found the location you should log in FIRST" may relate to signing a guestbook at the museum, not a geocache logbook.
-
Only one can be the actual "owner". You can put both names on the cache page, but when the name is clicked on, the profile that will pop up will be the account that the cache page is registered to. Only one account will automatically recieve the emailed logs, but the other person can put a watch on the page or add it to a bookmark list that is set up to receive notifications. In agreement with everything knowschad just said. Also in this area there are cachers who besides having their own accts have established an impromptu team name for joint cache placements.

Is it legal/illegal ?
LightHouseSeekers replied to TeamSeekAndWeShallFind's topic in General geocaching topics
Looking at the satelite view and photo gallery on the page, seems obvious that one stops on the county road (probably not illegal) and not above the traffic lanes on the Interstate. One could also park on that county road on either side of the bridge and walk to the center. -
Nope. Been plenty of speculation, but not one single report has surfaced here. Why? Have you got one? Sidetracking the question: Have come close to being stung by Yellowjackets nesting in the skirt.

Help with Moving Coords, review won't
LightHouseSeekers replied to Visiting Vet Tech's topic in General geocaching topics
As another mentioned, disable the listing until your reviewer is able to correct it or while you are waiting post a note with the correct coords for people to use in the meantime. -
We like the idea of (un)limited PQs. That way we don't have to worry about deleting a route or area that we only visit once a year. We only actually run a few each week, but it is nice to save others we may wish to use again.
