  1. On the off topic in this topic: BAD neighborhoods.

I was born and raised in one that turned BAD.

We moved out as it got worse, years later the nearby area even had infamous riots.

I have travelled in and around there some 30-40 years later and though rebounds

look apparent I still perceive the area as a bit dicey. Very few caches in the area

and those I have sought have been down very cautiouslly.

Personally I wouldn't have placed them to invite cachers in not familiar with the area.

  2. We generaly believe that the log must be signed to claim a find; however there was a time we were positive that we had found the container, but lid was jammed and log could not be signed. We submitted a 'write note' log instead of DNF or found. Then sent email to CO describing what we found. We received a reply saying they would make a mtce visit there for repairs, but we should claim a find as did find it (despite not signing log).

  3. It appears our first day we didn't log anything as we had gps issues, terrain issues or simply DNFs. So our first log is from the second day out.

"Only our 2nd day out and this one was our very 1st find.

The SO had uncovered it and didn't realize she had done

so until I said there it is. Put it back in the same spot

where plafulotter replaced it, looked like a good spot for it to be."

We much later adopted this cache as the original owner had moved out of town.

We didn't wish to see it become defunct, so it is still quite active to be found as newer people join the game.

  4. Real close by, maybe I'll run for it.

If I'm already heading out for a cache run I'll make it a point making it the first stop in case I might beat one of the local FTF hounds.

Otherwise just say. that's nice I'll get to it eventually.

  5.

I have even heard of a multi with the 2 stages being over 1000 miles apart.

That's insane! Who would travel over 1000 miles for one cache?

If one point was near by my home coords and the other was near a location that I travelled to on a regular basis I would consider it. Otherwise not very likely.

  6. It does appear the personalized is not generated on Wed (the day of receipt), but probably on Mon as the 1st entry on mine is for Tues event. Guess it wasn't sinking to me how much hamster power is required to create the 'personalized' letters. I like it better getting the emails on Wed rather than LATE Fri. I see MBs about trying to release them on Mon. Would be great if mine arrived sometime on Tues.

  7. I am seeing these arrive promptly on Wed, but now with the info updated effective through Monday there is still stale info for the upcoming week. So I see at the top of the list upcoming events that occurred the previous day (Tues). As my TARDIS is still inoperable doesn't do me much good to read about events that have already happened.

  8.

Personally, I wouldn't go through the hassle of having to go through security again to leave and re-enter the airport.

And to echo some others, I think geocaching anywhere near airports (within 3-4 blocks, maybe even further) are a bad idea. Security seems nervous enough as it is.

I agree with 'Gitchee-Gummee' - it all depends on the individual circumstances.

This one is 300' from the main doors of the airport.

It was placed in the exact spot suggested by the Airport Manager and Chief of Security. Has been very heavily visited for almost 2 yrs now with no problems.

I pulled up google streetview and I can see the cache.

Tried the same thing. I can't see the cache

    Its on the fence.

    You're right on.

Ok, after moving to a slightly different spot in streetview I could see it.

  10. However most of the show is staged.

The state authorities know about it and have confirmed no moonshine is being made.

Had wondered about it being 'fake', never read closely all the disclaimers in the credits (they go by quickly)

  11. Don't name the FTF prize though if it's to a store. That may also be considered commercializing.

"Gift card for $10 of coffee or donuts" would be ok, but more than likely "Tim Horton's $10 gift card" wouldn't.

I think you may be giving advice that applies in the Province of Ontario, Canada, and nowhere else in the world.

In 1995, Tim Hortons merged with Wendy's International, Inc., giving new focus and impetus to the expansion of the Tim Hortons concept in the United States. Tim Hortons locations can presently be found in Michigan, Maine, Connecticut, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New York, with responsible expansion continuing in these core markets

But I still wouldn't mention them by name, just gift card for donuts or coffee.

  12. Somebody posted a needs maintenance log on one of my caches earlier this week stating that "It's not there. It hasn't been found in two months". Sure the cache hadn't been found in awhile, but it also hadn't had any DNF's since then, nor any other logs.

So I went out and checked it today, and sure enough, there was the cache, hidden in the same old spot.

I find it kind of unnecessary to use a "Needs Maintenace" just because you couldn't find it and the last log on the cache was a couple months back. I've had DNF's on many caches that hadn't been found in awhile and each time I log a DNF, not a NM.

The remnants of the hurricane came through and knocked down some trees in the park, so the cache MUST have been destroyed and Needs Maintenance, cause I couldn't find it.

NOT !! Drove over and checked, found cache intact and prefect condition at correct spot.
