  1. Sorry to jump on the band wagon a little late, but how do you cause such incredible damage on foot? If Geocaching inspired enough Americans to walk in the woods and the end result was errosion, wouldn't it be worth it? I have been mountain biking for over 15 years and been on trails all over the US. If you were really concerned about the environment and trail errosion you would be out shooting horses instead of bothering geocachers. 2. Yes, except I use them mostly on land navigation courses, patrols, and long distance foot movements. Pace count beads are one of the best investments you can make to improve your land navigation accuracy. I usually terrain associate to the point where I think a benchmark / point is and then use a GPS from there. Just remember your pace count will change as the day drags on or terrain changes. 3. OK you got me. Not the capitol building, but places that would seem just as deserving of a photograph like the Gold Vault at Ft. Knox. Stopping to take a photo is a quick way to meet the US Mint police and the MP's. I have also seen vehicles stopped and film confiscated after people have taken pictures on Ft. Knox anywhere other than the Patton Museum or specified events where it is authorized. The only reason I brought this up is the photo of GZ2836 are less than a kilometer from a restricted access area. I will try and find the regulation and post a link in my next message. Bret Bellizio
  4. Sorry about those problems with my two previous postings, something was wrong with my key board. I did some research and discovered that ther is a single longitudinal and two latitudinal digits that I have never used before. Once I drop them from the data I am spot on. Bret Bellizio
  5. Just a quick note to those who want a photo of the actual benchmark / tower / steeple. Photography on and around many DOD reservations, Airports, and other sensitive locations is now strictly prohibited. I have just started logging benchmarks around Ft. Knox and was amazed to find photos of major landmarks posted on the net. I really enjoy this hobby so far and I would hate to see anyone get in trouble due to ignorance of laws or regulations Bret Bellizio
  6. I have just started benchmark hunting.I recognize all the benchmarks that I am looking for but the UTM grids are not on the Ft. Knox map. I have the correct UTM Grid on the map and download but everything else is off. Suggestions anyone? Bret Bellizio
