  1. Any luck with this? I'll vouch for the e-Map, I love mine.
  2. Who is TPTB? It has been listed on another post, but they should give micro's a different icon or listing type
  3. I'm really glad to see that this topic spawned such a discussion. I'm going to look for one of those cookbooks. The Pirate recipe cache is really cool too. I just thought it would be cool to make an official geocaching cook book. I have no problem with anyone using any of the ideas presented here. I just want the recipes
  4. My ideas are open for anyone to try, the cook book idea is ZackJones' idea though. Happy caching.
  5. The travel bug idea sounds like a pretty good idea too. BTW, I won't be mad if someone decides to do this. I would, but I hardly have the time to get out caching myself.
  6. Just an idea for a cache. I thought it might be cool for different cachers to set up caches all over the country where you trade recipes. The owners could copy the recipes that are being traded and eventually submit them to Geocaching.com to make an official geocaching cook book. The proceeds could go to Geocaching, national parks commissions, or a suitable charity. I'm sure that I'm not the only cacher who likes to cook.
  7. Sounds like we are getting excluded here in Florida and in DC. Maybe as a joke we should give the yellow jeep TB's a blanket mission to travel to DC or Florida. LOL Seriously though, I'm stationed in Florida, but my drivers license is from Mo, am I still excluded?
  8. If they can't here the siren, it's thier own fault. The person below me likes cats in an unhealthy way. 78Firedog --?If Prometheus was worthy of the wrath of heaven for kindling the first fire upon earth, how ought all the gods honor the men who make it their professional business to put it out??-- John Godfrey Saxe, (American journalist, poet, and lecturer) circa 1850
  9. Cool, but from what I understand, it might be quicker and easier to get with your local admin personel and work out all the bugs first then post it. But, as I said before, I am unexperienced in this field. 78Firedog --?If Prometheus was worthy of the wrath of heaven for kindling the first fire upon earth, how ought all the gods honor the men who make it their professional business to put it out??-- John Godfrey Saxe, (American journalist, poet, and lecturer) circa 1850
  10. quote:The way I see it a coord like 72 35.337 by -114 xx.675 would only give 60 possible coord choices, not a several hundred mile area as the minor coords would be exact. Wherever you go, there you are! Wouldn't this put the 60 possible locations all in a straight line? If I'm right then it would be easy to eliminate the nonpossible locations, say if the line goes through a wal-mart parking lot. But, I agree with others that say you should put other clues and info in your description as you can't count on common since being common. Also, one could just start out somewhere on that line and fallow it to the cache. I personaly like the idea, sounds like fun to me. I think the puzzle caches are my ticket to getting the wife to play too. Besides, doesn't leaving open coords put some of the hunt back into the sport? (you may notice from my profile that I have no experience in geocaching, and my knowledge of the sport comes mostly from reading the FAQ's and the forums. I am mostly just a lurker here till I get back to my GPSr and normal civilizatoin, so I understand if my opinion isn't valid) 78Firedog --?If Prometheus was worthy of the wrath of heaven for kindling the first fire upon earth, how ought all the gods honor the men who make it their professional business to put it out??-- John Godfrey Saxe, (American journalist, poet, and lecturer) circa 1850 [This message was edited by 78Firedog on July 13, 2003 at 01:44 PM.] [This message was edited by 78Firedog on July 13, 2003 at 01:51 PM.]

My sportrak often goes on walkabout as I call it when I'm in the mountains or dessert canyons. The other day while sitting on a rock on the side of a mountain, I was peering through my binoculars trying to find myself. My sportrak insisted I was out there somewhere, about 10 miles distant moving along at approximately 12mph. I've heard of other people having problems with GPSr's on mountian peaks. Does any one know what couses that? I would think that on top of a mountian you would get a great signal. 78Firedog --?If Prometheus was worthy of the wrath of heaven for kindling the first fire upon earth, how ought all the gods honor the men who make it their professional business to put it out??-- John Godfrey Saxe, (American journalist, poet, and lecturer) circa 1850
  14. Great Thread. 16. Has any one checked out the Garmin EMap? I have one and it works great for the car, and since it isn't slaved to the road, it works well off the road as well. The unit itself is only $179 and you can get it with the cable, mapsource program and 8mb memory card for $219 at gpsdiscount.com. I'm pretty sure you can get a card up to 200 something mb's. Since I am stuck someplace with out my GPSr or any geocaches I haven't been able to start caching yet. 78Firedog --?If Prometheus was worthy of the wrath of heaven for kindling the first fire upon earth, how ought all the gods honor the men who make it their professional business to put it out??-- John Godfrey Saxe, (American journalist, poet, and lecturer) circa 1850
  17. Isn't this like asking some one if "no" is the only word they can say? 78Firedog ?If Prometheus was worthy of the wrath of heaven for kindling the first fire upon earth, how ought all the gods honor the men who make it their professional business to put it out?? -- John Godfrey Saxe, (American journalist, poet, and lecturer) circa 1850
  18. Cool. Great links. Thanks. I'm going to be teaching a class about how to use the GPSr's our Dept bought when I get back from the desert. Those links will come in very handy. Thanks again Greg
  19. quote:Originally posted by Pathy1:...BUT...I am a little worried because their return policy is only 10 days. Is GPSdiscount a reputable place to order from? Thanks for any info. I got my Garmin EMap from them. Quick shipping, and they answered all my questions. I also got a bunch of accessories for it becouse the price was right. They even helped me track the shipment. They were very helpful to me. I would definatly recommend them to any one who is looking for a GPSr.
  20. EMap, a good choice. I'm new to the geocaching game, but I've had my EMap for about 9 months now and I love it. When I was looking for mine I saw a few of them on ebay. I opted to get mine new though. I found a place that offers the "super deluxe" package that comes with the computer cable, an 8mb memory card and Metro Guide program for $219. If your interested, check out gpsdiscount.com. [This message was edited by 78Firedog on July 05, 2003 at 11:20 AM.]
  21. I have a Garmin EMap and I love the thing. You can pick one up (base unit) for about $179. It comes with a base map of all the US major highways and it's easy to use. Check out http://www.gpsdiscount.com they have some good deals, and helped me out a lot. I went for the EMap Super Deluxe package, it came with the mapsource program ($80 on its own), it has all the local detailed maps for the US. The package also came with the computer cable and an 8mb memory card. The package only cost me $219.
