  1. IE 8.0 NO Compatibility Mode.....I just tried turning Comp. mode on and could not even enter a note so I turned it off again. Then I tried entering a Personal Cache Note in my wife's account....it worked so I tried my account without success. Then switched back to her account and could NOT Save a Note....still received the Cache is Unpublished page.
  2. After entering a Personal cache Note and clicking Save....I'm taken to the "Cache is Unpublished" page. On the GC.com homepage entering a GC number in the browse box then clicking Search....nothing happens.
  3. Hey Evanspack, I having problems downstate also. -hostanut
  4. I can see the usefullness of having more cache sizes but changing or adding more sizes now presents problems: 1. Until ALL caches have been updated to the "new" cache sizes....there still may be a question as what the correct size is. 2. Some cache owners are no longer active.....so their caches will NOT be updated to the cache sizes. Then this is the matter of interpretation: What size should be listed for a bison tube inserted into a 8" diameter tree limb 15" long? Micro because of the bison tube or Other because of the tree limb? I've seen alot of discepancy in the listed sizes of caches I've found? -hostanut
  5. BM has 57 caches and alphabetically "You Misssed a Spot, Mike Ott!" is the last cache. then I added GCJBZJ Zion Reformed....the BM show 58 caches but does NOT display Zion Reformed. http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.aspx?guid=c260170f-b079-4e76-bef7-216761d23666
  6. When trying to add a cache to a bookmark list by entering the Gc number into the "Enter Waypoint name to bookmark a cache listing:" box and clciking "Add Bookmark" increases the number of caches in the bookmark but the cache does NOT appear in the list until logging off and back on GC.com.
  7. In light of the latest newsletter that talks about geocache maintenance.... The geocaching knowledgebook includes: "3.8. Caches That Need Maintenance FINDERS: If you find a geocache that is in need of some help (e.g. container is cracked, logbook is full or wet), please post a "Needs Maintenance" log on the cache page so the cache owner and the community is notified." This needs to be clarified, enhanced etc to emphasize that "Needs Maintenance" should NOT be used by cachers just because they didn't find the cache. Yes if the cache page states, for example, that the cache is on a bench but the bench has been removed....a "Needs Maintenance" would apply. I had the following Needs Maintenance log posted on one of my caches: "Assume maintenance is required from recent DNFs."....The cache was there!!! The newsletter also states: "And geocache maintenance is not just for geocache owners. Courteous geocachers often help with cache maintenance, which helps increase the quality of the game for all. It's easy. You simply bring additional supplies such as an extra geocache container, swag, logbooks, and pens on your geocaching adventures. That way you're prepared to help out another geocacher by fixing a cache that needs maintenance on the spot." That is nice but if the cache is NOT found CACHERS SHOULD NOT PLACE A REPLACEMENT CACHE CONTAINER WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF THE CO. Leaving a replacement container to help the CO can cause problems for the CO. I've had to remove a duplicate container at least 2 times.....and both times the original cache container was less than 12 inches from the replacement. One time, unfortunately my wife had more cachers sign the replacement before we knew a replacement had been left by a helpful cacher. Cachers need to understand that if they don't find a cache......if only means that they did not find it. It does NOT mean that the cache Needs Maintenance or that the CO needs to check on the cache. My wife and I determine if a maintenance visit is warranted on a cache by cache basis. One DNF on a particular cache may mean a visit is needed but several DNFs on another cache might just mean that several cachers did NOT find it (especially if they had low find counts and the cache is tricky with several DNFs in the past).
  8. Statistics are showing as different numbers: For me right now.... Caches Found = 4960 Stat Bar = 4950 Statistics show 4939
  9. This morning I sent an email throught the website to another cacher which said: I have added your 700th milestone to the cache write-up of AL's Story. The copy of the email that I received stated: I have added your &00th milestone to the cache write-up of AL's Story. Notice the 7 has been replaced with an ampersand.
  10. My partner and I have been caching for years, long ago we used to sign both of our caching names on the log and in the online logs of my account. Went she went back to names under her account (to correct her totals) several of the caches were LOCKED and she could NOT log them.....no they were not changed to waymarks etc. How do caches get locked? When you archive a cache is there an option to lock it to no longer allow logs? -hostanut
  11. Thanks for all the replies......I hope that many more reply. I quess that I supplied too much info....some replies seem to be off topic. This topic is about whether Daily Cache Challenges should be added to the exception that allows them to require e-mailing for final coords. Having said that let me try to address some of the issued raised: mtn-nam's example of "what if the owner goes into the hospital for an emergency." My reply: That is valid for regular caches that have gone missing so I don't think your example is a valid reason to not allow this exception. It may have happened and may happen again but I'll bet the percentage of times it happens is VERY low. DavidMac said "I'd like to see certain types of challenges listed separately from other caches, either as a separate cache type or on a separate page. Preferably on a separate page; for now it's hard to find out about many challenges without resorting to bookmark lists that may not be up to date." My reply: I'd also like to see challenges listed separately...it would definitely made them easier to find. The problem may be defining "challenge" caches. Pony......would that be a live pony that you want??? Stunod and Brad W comments about using certificates were appreciated. My reply: Certificates and especially conveying the prizes to the caches would, IMHO, be cost prohibitive if mailing of the prizes were involved. Yeah, I know I could just mail $10 to the each cacher that found it BUT I won't! I would hope that it would be more fun to open a cache with decent swag and be able to select your prize. In general: I know that I can place this challenge cache with the correct coords listed and have people go to a regular cache with normal swag or even to a micro with only a log......but I was looking for a way to take people to a cache with $8 to $10 swag while trying to keep the cache safe from cache thieves by not listing the final coords. I thought that emailing the correct coords to cachers that had completed the challenge was a good way of limiting the cachers with access to the cache. -Preston (hostanut)
  12. I have been informed by a reviewer that "Only the All Counties and DeLorme are given an exception that allows them to require e-mailing for final coords. " I like to request that another kind of hide be added to this exception.......Daily Cache Challenge (requires cacher to make a find on all 366 days of the year....not necessarily in 1 year). I would like to place this challenge in the state of Delaware.....and require that the cacher make a find on every day of the year in the state of Delaware. I would like to do the same thing for the state of Maryland in the future. I'm sure other states may also have a similar cache created. (A Cache Every Day.....GC1N2Q6 was created in New Hamshire but did NOT require the finds to be in NH.) Because of the magnitude of the challenge I have already purchased swag with a value between $8 and $10. With swag of this value, I don't want to list the correct coords and leave the possibility of any cacher going to the cache and taking the swag. I believe that allowing the CO (me in this case) to email the final coords to only those that have completed the challenge, will increase the likelihood that good swag will remain for future cachers who complete the challenge. -Preston (hostanut)
  13. Cache Owners should be able to see other cachers who are viewing their caches. On the cache page where is says "1 user(s) watching this cache." it should list the cachers watching that cache.....only for the cache owner. -hostanut
  14. thanks for the info.
  15. I bought a Hanging Monkey at GeoWoodstock because I have a TB that looks like a minature of the geocoin. I can't remember who I bought it from. I want to retrieve the activation code. Who made the Hanging Monkey Geocoin? Thanks
  16. I was disappointed that more merchandise was NOT available....hats, different lanyards.... I also messed up by not ordering the GW5 coins when I registered...wrongly thinking that I would be able to get at the event. Yeah, I could and did order 4 of them at $12 each........I believe that they were $7 if you preordered. Still waiting to receive my coins. -hostanut
