  1. I use GSAK with the macro and it works very well. It's free, but after 21 days you get a nag screen if you choose not to pay.
  2. I tried to check out your new list group, but when I clicked on the link which you provided, it told me that I can only view that list group if I join something called "Facebook" and they want all kinds of personal information from me in order to be able to join. What is this about? Is this "Facebook" some kind of phishing site that you are promoting? Is it about indemnity theft? facebook is a networking site like the post below you said. It started as a site only for people in college, requiring a valid school email to join. Now its available to anyone, but I would assume is still mostly comprised of people in college or people who have graduated in the past couple years. It's a legit site.
  3. Try that link out for starters. It helped me alot. Download pq into cache magnet then export to ipod up to 333 caches. Cachemagnet is free software. I like using GSAK. It's free too, you just get the nag screen after a little while if you don't want to pay for it. There is now a macro for it on GSAK's website that is very easy to run and will put all 500 caches on your iPod in the notes.
  4. Try using liners with your socks. The liners will help pull moisture away which helps cut down on blisters.
  5. Does anyone know the dimensions on these? I've looked at all the places I can find selling them and no one lists it. Nano
  6. SO DID ALL PLASTICS. The OP's question is completely senseless. Sorry. Why is this a senseless question? Chemicals can leach out of plastic just as the OP was asking. The amount is probobly very small and negligible, but I think that is what the poster was trying to figure out.
  7. When it comes to the containers the only real harmful aspect would probobly be the spray painting. Spray paint is not very good for the environment, but I dont think the amount used in constructing caches adds up to a very large net effect. As other people have said, things like driving to the caches and all the discarded batteries are probobly far worse for the environment. Another very good point.
  8. The longest I've searched was an hour and forty five minutes. I wont normally search that long but it was a puzzle cache of my brothers that had been published the night before that I stayed up late working on. Knowing him I knew it would be a hard find so I wanted to get the FTF and tease him about how easy it was. I couldn't consider an almost two hour search easy tough so the plan backfired.
  9. I second this. I use my i-pod every day for music so its nice to be able to use the same device for caching. All of the storage space is nice and it is smaller than most pda's i have seen. If you wanna run other applications though a pda is the way to go.
  10. Can you let me know where the Appalachian Tenn/NC coin ends up, I'de like to keep tabs on it so I can try and see it at some point. I'm gonna be up in Raleigh soon and would like to see this one because I love the AT through the Tenn/NC border. I don't know if tipping someone off to a coins location is against the rules or frowned on, but if you cant let me know then its cool.
  11. Would creating smaller pixels help it be less noticeable at closer distances? I ask because I've seen some pictures that seem to be pretty close up of rifles and other items painted in this camo that look like they blend in pretty well. How close is close???? I guess you could try anything but an observant eye at close range, 10 feet or less, will probably pick up on the straight edges of the pixels thereby defeating the purpose of the pattern. BTW, I'd never use the ACU pattern as it would be really time consuming to paint. I agree, it would be time consuming, however, if it would work it would be worth it. The pictures I saw were probably from 5-10 feet away. I'm just asking your opinion because I assume you probobly know more about it than I do. Thanks for the input.

  13. Has anyone tried making the newer camo that the military is using? Like this..
  14. It looks like the sizes of a .30 can vary a little bit, but assuming deminsions of 3.5"x7.25"x10" you will need around 9.2 pounds to weigh it down. To find this for other sized containers just multiply your containers volume in cubic feet by 62.42 to get pounds required. Or multiply the containers volume in cubic inches by .036 to get pounds needed.
  15. NOT TRUE!! - Common myth but just not true. Many sources on the Internet to disspell that one. I have friends that handle snakes and are snake experts. No North American snake will chase down a human. An employee and Reptile Gardens confimed this for us a year ago. I can't speak for your internet sources or freinds, but my brother and dad have both had cotton mouths come after them. In both cases the snake came out of the water and chased after them. Maybe they were South American though. I too have a friend who was been a snake handler/breeder for a long time, I will have to ask him his opinion on the subject some time.
  16. Around here I usually just do what others have commented on, using a stick or pole to tap around ahead of me. This doesn't always work around here though since we have quite a few cotton mouths around the water. These are one of the few snakes that are known to actively pursue people. They've also been known to try and get into peoples boats. With these you just need to keep an eye out and hope they aren't having a bad day.
  17. What if you have a well camouflaged regular sized cache thats just as hard to find? I know I don't have many finds or as much experience as many here, but the hardest caches I've found have no been micros. Maybe we should get rid of well camo'd caches as well as micros. It just seems to me that if everyone took the same care while looking for every cache that it shouldn't matter what size it is. Sure it may take a little more time to find a micro than a regular hidden ammo can, but the extra 10 minutes will not make a noticeable environmental difference if you're being responsible.
  18. Wow! That's probably not the attitude you want to give to a respected reviewer and moderator. Especially since (as he pointed out several posts above) asking for help on puzzle caches in the forums is generally frowned upon. It seems that figuring out the center point is an essential part of that cache. If you aren't able to figure out how to do it, then perhaps the answer is to 1) learn more on your own or 2) skip it and go on to something else much the same way that if you came on one that was beyond your physical abilities you would skip it as well. This one may be beyond your abilities. (Especially considering all the help you've already been given in this thread.) Getting mad at Keystone certainly isn't the way to do it. I do agree with you about the attitude, but what constitutes on your own? A lot of learning uses the knowledge of another person whether its provided in a book, in person, or in a forum. I don't believe people should be providing answers to puzzles for others, but if someone needs to learn how to find the center of an area what difference does it make if he learns that from a book or on a forum? If I could only do things that I truly learned on my own I wouldn't be worth much. Also, giving up on something because you may think it's above someones ability is also not a very good attitude.
  19. Averaging the points or drawing an x by connecting the corners will only work if the 4 points make a rectangle or square. If the points make an irregular shape then you have to find the centroid, which is the geometric center. However, as stated above if the points are very far apart there will have to be corrections made since the earth is not flat which will complicate it quite a bit I would assume.
  20. Here are several options. Waterproof field books or paper you can print on with most printers. Forestry Suppliers

Here is a site to find the parcel tax i.d. numbers for your area. Link Couldn't find where to go to get the owner name from the i.d. number though. Here where I live its pretty easy.

What local areas? I have looked them up around here, but most of that information is county by county. Chances are the information for my county would do you no good.
  23. I agree. They very expensive, I kick myself every time I go buy a few new pairs, but they really are worth it. I know I've spent more on smartwool socks than I have on hiking boots. If your doing a lot of walking/hiking though your boots aren't going to be any better than the socks under them.
  24. I usually don't take too much stuff out with me, so my pockets suffice most of the time. However, if I need to take more stuff or know I'm going to be out for a while I use this
  25. I wear these most of the time, Vasque Sundowner GTX. Probably the best footwear I have ever bought. I've had them 8-9 years and they are still running strong. I wear these when its warmer out, Merrell Chameleon Wrap XCR Both are waterproof which is nice.
