You can also set up notifications as a premium member. I have mine set up so that if a "Published" log is posted for a cache within 10km of my house, then an email is sent to me, which in turn is fowarded by Gmail to my cell phone as a text message.
  2. Hey there, I have one that I can part with. Bought around Christmas time, used very lightly. Shoot me a PM if you are interested.
  3. I had to make the choice between the Venture HC ($129.99 + $24.99 MicroSD card) and the Venture Cx ($179.99). The autorouting ability of the Cx is really the clincher for me. I love being able to route to a geocache, find it, hop in the car and have it route me to the next one. This is especially helpful in parts of town that I am not really familiar with. The microSD card also allowed me to load an ton of maps, enough where I loaded it once and forgot about it. I'm not sure what I am missing out on with the high sensitivity, but the performance of the non-high-sensitivity has been very reasonable. If you have the funds, get the best of both worlds with the Legend/Vista HCx; expandability, autorouting, and high sensitivity. I went against it because I couldn't justify the $100 price difference (buying brick and mortar sucks) for a hobby I was new to.
  4. Can't be for the barometer, my Venture Cx has that hole as well. I think it's for sound.
  5. Thanks for uploading it geowizerd, it was a very enjoyable program.
  6. Hehe, found a cache today: Put 8 minutes into parking meter, walked a ways, found cache, came back with the meter reading 0:00 but not flashing (<1 minute left)
  7. To the OP, I see that you are not a Premium Member (neither am I), one thing that you have to keep in mind when you can't execute pocket queries is that you can only download .loc files. These files lack the detailed information (ie hints, difficulty, cache type, etc.) that are available when you have a .gpx file. So GSAK will beam all the info to your GPSr and give the waypoints more meaningful names (extremely useful), but I have yet to find a good way to go paperless with my standard membership.
  8. I picked up a Garmin Venture Cx the other day for $130CAD brand new. Found one cache with it so far, and it seems to work quite well. I believe the Venture Cx lacks the high sensitivity chipset, but I don't foresee myself venturing deep enough under tree cover where it will be a problem. The Venture Cx is definitely the most economical choice of the four you have there, but if you want the high sensitivity chip, go with the Legend HCx (Vista HCx if you want electronic compass + barometer too).
  9. Make sure you are logged in, the go to the cache page. In the right hand corner you should see a link that says "Log your visit". Click, and log away!
  10. What I do is add caches as favorites. Go 'Add Favorite' then arrow over to get 'Lattitude Longitude' and enter the coordinates of the cache. Once that's done you can navigate to it. I believe there is a way to do it en masse. But I am not familiar with the procedure. I suggest you look here and here
  11. I have the TomTom 3rd edition as well. Off-Road navigator will not work that well on NavCore7.xx. TomTom did not release an SDK for this software version, so when you first load it up, the screen will be completely garbled. You can do an quick alteration to the configuration file that will make the screen readable, and somewhat useable. But the interface is kinda slow, and if ever you need to enter data via a keyboard, the screen will garble again. If you do choose to use the "Browse Map" function, the easiest way would be to set the coordinates of the geocache you are hunting as a favourite. This will show up as a star on the map, instead of fussing around moving the cursor. Be warned though, when you are within about 50m from a road, the unit will snap your location to it. I haven't found a way to turn this off. Also, having felt the beefiness of a dedicated hand held GPSr, the TomTom feels really cheap, and fragile. I am 100% with this while the unit is mounted nicely on my dash, but walking around in the woods with the unit in my pocket? Not so much. My plan is to pick up a reasonably priced Garmin unit for out of car use. Good luck!
