  1. John~ Are you up for hosting an event? Where in Lemoore would be a good place to meet? Any restaurant with free wifi, good seating & good food? Any park area with picnic benches - a good place for a potluck? Once I find out when I'm coming out in June/July- I'd be happy to host an event- but then it doesn't help you now. I'm hosting one in Ohio Mar 21 at a family diner that hasn't changed in over 50 years- except they're adding free wifi. Lots of events in the Hamilton/Cincinnati Ohio are in "Panera Bread" restaurants- they have community rooms and free wifi.
  2. John, I will be in Lemoore the end of June/first of July to visit my son. I had thought about hosting an event while I'm there. If you would like to find a place in Lemoore/Hanford that would be willing to host us....I'd be willing to help out. I'd like to meet some of the Lemoore cachers. I've already met Scooterman when I was out there in August. Coleen/The Wild Road Oxford, Ohio

  4. JohnE5! - I was just out at Lemoore visiting my son. I was hoping to hear from you. I managed to find a few Lemoore caches. Hope to get more on my next trip out there. I stayed on base at my son's supervisor's house. And with my son's car in the shop I was at the mercy of whoever was driving off base in order for me to get some caches. One of my son's co-workers a PR got hooked on caching the day I left...we found a few out by Harris Ranch and the TB Hotel near SFO. He wanted to go back to Lemoore and find some more.
  5. I live here at NAS Lemoore. I wonder if that little bug made it here. Just a note, that is an F/A-18 not a 16. I'm flying out of Indy tonight- will be in NAS Lemoore Sat Aug 9-Aug 15. Visiting my son who is stationed there. Just saw this thread -;looking for last minute caches in Lemoore and the surrounding area ~and was happy to see that someone else caches in Lemoore. My son who used to go caching with me when he was younger- now says that it's "An old person's" thing. And nobody- NOBODY- in the Navy caches! Ha! I beg to differ. He's stationed with VFA 14 Tophatters as a PR. Coleen The Wild Road
  6. I'll be in Lincoln June 23-29 for a stay at the Univ of Neb. I'd be interested in some suggestions as to a few easy caches. I'd like to take a day and drive to Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa before I leave to grab at least one cache in each state. Any suggestions? Best route with best use of time? The Wild Road Oxford, Ohio
  7. I agree. Totally useless. I used the old maps frequently....loved the ability to pan and see caches along a route or to see a cluster of caches in a concentrated area. Now I see one cache- just one cache...and I'm back to the early days of taking hours to plan caches along a route for a trip. Bring back the old maps, PLEASE!
  8. I agree. What happened to the feature where one could manipulate the map with the arrows and see all the caches along a route? I used that frequently to plot out my cache hunting on family trips. Can someone help me? What happened?
  9. I usually read and lurk, but after reading your adventure story- I feel I have to post. That was a great story. Loved reading it. Glad to see you found the cache and Ben.
  10. Hey- whoever gets her...either Maryland or North Dakota will be getting one helluva cacher. And we will miss her very, very much here in Ohio/Kentucky/Indiana land. I'm trying to look on the plus side- I've never cached in either Maryland or Norh Dakota.....guess I'll have to take a road trip to see how 4leaf will be doing. So -whoever gets her - take darn good care of her! She's one of our best here. We will miss you, Katie!
  11. I used to have a micro right outside the entrance to Jungle Jim's. I thought Web-ling might put one out there again. If he doesn't; I'll put it out again. There are several caches in the area. 45013 - that's Hamilton zip code....Fairfield (Jungle Jim's) is just down the highway. Ditto to the recommendation on visiting Jungle Jim's...it's a treat.
  12. No- you have to try the chili if you come here. It's an experience you don't want to miss. There are chili experts here who can tell you the subtle differences between GoldStar, Skyline, and any other Cincinnati chili. It has to do with the cinnamon and the cocoa. Montgomery Inn ribs are legendery as well as Graeters ice cream. There is an active caching organization here-Ohio Kentucky Indiana Cachers (www.OKIC.org) full of friendly people who would be happy to show you around Cincinnati. Coleen the wild road
  13. Good work there, Katie!!!!! The next 1,000 is awaiting......go forth and conquer.
  14. All you needed was a roll of duct tape for little Etrex!
  15. Yes- I know that buried cache thing ticked us off royally...Even if it wasn't against the rules-any cacher worth her salt would know that a buried container stands a greater chance of a major moisture problem down the road. I taped it for my love of caching-but I'll end up using it for my high school acting class. I just introduced the Method.
  16. Hey, good luck on that new cache! Keep it up and running. I'd like to drive over to Illinois this summer and cache a little!
  17. West Central Ohio- Butler/Preble/Darke counties...just far enough north of Cincinnati/Hamilton that corn and bean fields butt up against patches of woods....it's not unusual to see the unmistakeable gait of a coyote running along the tree line. In Farfield-urban area-just north of Cincy-but south of the above mentioned areas- city council discussed setting coyote traps because of citizen complaints...concerns about pet cats and dogs becoming coyote chow. If you drive along country routes in this area, it is easy to become acquainted with the resident red-tailed hawk in each mile square area. They rest on the same pole/tree at the same time every afternoon. Sometimes if you are lucky-you can catch one during the hunt. One last group...turkey buzzards...huge, stubborn birds..who will wait until the very last minute before they fly away from their roadkill snack as you approach. They look at you as if you committed the greatest faux pas by driving by their lunch. Rumors fly about bobcats in this area...never seen tracks. That doesn't mean they're not here.
  18. Make that campsite 83N -also dedicated to the felines with Wild Road & possibly CachingCats on the property. We're looking to make a cat banner to fly high over the campsite. With Catlon up the way in his campsite- this camp out will be one flying hairball after another. Ahhhhh, cat spit- nature's miracle cure. I love my cats.
  19. The Wild Road from Oxford, OH (OKIC) reserved site 83N. We're looking forward to a good time. It's the first summer thing we have planned-it will get us through these winter months knowing that we've got this to look forward to. Looking forward to meeting new cachers.
  20. NeoGeo brought up an interesting point. Neo is curious, as are many of us, about this sudden shift in planet rotation affecting our GPS accuracy. Garmin Guy jumped the gun here with his accusation-which is tactless to assume lack of compassion on someone else. With these kinds of responses, we will soon be prefacing every post with our compassion quotient before we can ask an innocent question. Garmin Guy-there are discussion boards and chat rooms out there where the participients are discussing this human tragedy. Find one, please.
  21. You are welcome Cowspots and The Dillon Gang! Moe Dante and Wild Road-sensing summer quickly speeding along, realized that this was a great excuse for a roadtrip and went for it. We had great fun deciding where to go to get the pics and once we were at the spots, we nosed around and discovered new places. We ended up placing two new caches because of the new locales we discovered. OK- so here is our request for a turn at this cache. Anybody out there willing to help The Wild Road's request? I converted our name using THEWIL= 84.39.45X. That's right close to where we live. Anyone out there willing to give this one a shot and find an interesting spot to take a pic using these W coords? For a bit of adventure-I could use E 084.39.45X-that would put us in India or Nepal. Hmmm-let's see-Where's that Nepalese discussion board?
  22. I'd be happy to be a Cincy caching liaison for any of these locationless requests. Email me.
  23. Amish Hacker- Could you please come up with an avatar for me? I am female and own two Magellans-the SportTrak Map and the yellow SportTrak. My caching name is The Wild Road-which comes from a novel about cats by Gabriel King. The Wild Road is referred to in the novel as the supernatural "time-travel" highway that cats can log onto to move them quickly from place to place. (Ever notice how a strange cat can "just show up" on your doorstep?) It's not an adolescent novel-very grown-up-(sub-topics include graphic animal lab testing and even a cat "rape" scene)-it's just that the characters are of the feline persuasion. I'm a cat-lover, love to travel and love to read. I could easily live out of a suitcase and go on the road or te sea, when the kids are grown and out of the house. Right now I'm working in the theater/entertainment business. No-I'm not a pole dancer. Thank you for considering this!
  24. Being an airport nut, I chose a virtual located at a "park-and-view" area (which I never knew was there) at the nearest international airport. During that Sat. afternoon before Thanksgiving, my daughter and I had found the last 6 caches needed to bring us up to 99. We drove to the CVG Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Intl. Airport viewing area, secured the info needed on a historical plaque, parked the van with at least a dozen other vehicles, (families, older folks all with food just sitting and watching the planes). We toasted each other with our Taco Bell Mountain Dews, and watched one jet after another take off as the sun slowly sank in the west.
