  1. Manually change the co-ords in our GPS - takes about 30 seconds as has been said! Annie
  2. Thanks for your response everyone!!! Good (sort of) to know that we are not the only ones who have had this problem. At least we know we didn't just luck out. Annie
  3. Just curious to know if anyone else has had issues with the rubber surround on their Garmin Legend (or Vista or Summit or similar for that matter). Ours is getting fixed for the second time at present - thanks to great customer service from our store. The first time we got a whole new GPS as the rubber was completely unstuck and the buttons had stopped working properly. So now the same started to happen with our new one so we took it back to the store. It's getting to be really annoying, as we don't want to keep sending it back to the store every few month, as we live in a remote area and it's three hours away, never mind that we brought a produce expecting it to last more than a few months. I mean.... I suffer withdrawal symptoms if my GPS is not with in arm's reach!!! So we need one that doesn't have to get fixed all the time. Have others had any issues??? Annie
  4. Well, my recommendation is that you go out right away and move your caches to those different spots - especially if they are safer, more scenic, more enjoyable places to find a cache!! That will solve the issue you have. Just my opinion though Annie
  5. Well, unfortunately ALR caches (that is - caches where you have to do 'something' in order to be able to log the cache) are pretty much no longer allowed. So my comment is that before you get them all set up you read the cache placement guidelines really really, REALLY well then email your local reviewer and check if any ideas that you still have left are A OK to get published. DO all that well before you go about setting any thing up, or you wil be disappointed when they are not able to be published. Sorry to be a bearer of bad news Annie
  6. We have seen one Travel Bug Blanket TB with a similar concept. We liked it! So I would say go for it. Just write your travel bug description carefully, and know that not all cachers will like or follow your instructions (but ain't that the case for all our travellers anyway!) Annie
  7. Well, have now recieved 6 or 7 emails for found logs, moved TBs and the like. But still not the missing PQs - have not recieved the original that I did about 24 hours ago now, nor the replacement PQ that I did about 13 hours ago. Annie
  8. It seems to me that letting Eartha know about such travelbugs is the way of marking a 'travel bug needs maintenance' log. I think ( ) it is part of her role to help with such things, from what I have experienced. This would expecially be the case if the missing traveller is a Jeep or Diabetes coin (which kind of don't have one specific owner) or if the traveller or cache in question belongs to a cacher who is no longer active. Let her know about it - she has been more that happy to help out any time I have contacted her about TB or geocoin issues. Annie
  9. Hi there, In the perfect caching world, a cache would pretty much only get archived when it wasn't actually there. However sometimes some people log a 'Needs Archived' for a cache that is just a little damp or needs a new log book or something like that. Eventually it is likely that cache will get archived by a reviewer in their normal routine for such things (if it does not get maintained by the owner). So those caches are still there, and people sometimes still find them, particularly if the cache owner is not involved with caching anymore, and doesn''t go out and pick up the container. The only people who can archive a cache are the cache owner, or a Reviewer. Annie
  10. I am a little curious - in a polite kind of way - as to why it was that we all were not believed ( apparently) when we said there was an issue. And we made clear that it was a random thing as to whether emails were getting through or not. You sent one test - which worked. Fair enough. But the evidence from however many people that are on this thread (many of whom had requested multiple PQs, or were expecting multiple log/notifications/etc) was that something was wrong, even if your one initial test went OK. Especially given the evidence that it was a random problem - but still a significant problem. I'd just like to know why the evidence in these posts wasn't enough. And yes - I realise it was/is the weekend where GS is based, but it isn't for the rest of the world. Plus even in Groundspeakland the weekend is prime caching time for alot of people. Politely and enquiringly yours Annie
  11. Yep -- emails not getting delivered down here to the southern isles either !! LOL Send three new requests last night (my time)- Two of them came within an hour or so, the other one not here yet over 10 hours later, even though they were all supposely done within a few minutes of each other. Also some cache logs did not come through either. We got three find or DNF logs from a cacher visiting our area, so I though " I'll just look at their profile and see what other caches they did in town" to discover that they had done a bunch more of our caches, but we have not as yet recieved the emails for their logs. I would particularly like to know if they had DNFs on any more of our caches, without having to individually check each cache's logs. Annie
  12. For any and all questions about travel bugs, go look in the travel bug forum. Here is a link to the instructions that you need: TB instructions The part you want is near the bottom of the post. Annie
  13. Ah, there are actually two different answers to this question. 1) If the TB belongs to you personally, sure go ahead and 'dip' it into caches in all the states. It's yours - you can do what you want with it! 2) If it belongs to someone else - EMAIL THE OWNER and ask them!! Some people do not like their travellers to be 'dipped' or to stay for a long journey with one cacher. Annie
  14. If you can, take the dog!! We would love to take our two with us, but there are very few areas where we live that it is possible/safe. As for radios, here in NZ you can use limited range/limited frequency 'walkie-talkie' type radios without a licence, so depending where we are, PB and I will both carry ours. We can really only talk to each other on them though - if one of us is back at the vehicle or a bit further along the trail or what ever - it can be quite helpful. It could be fun being able to talk with other cachers, but it sounds like the chances are slim for you to be able to talk to anyone. Annie
  15. Well, perhaps it was there, and you just didn't find it - give that you were hunting in snow and all!!???? We have over 1000 finds & 40 plus hides, and still don't find caches that every other person before us had no trouble finding!!!!! I wuld wait until the snow clears, then go and have another look, or another several looks for it. Then if you feel it it still a problem, put a needs Archived log on it. That will bring it to the reviewers attention in much the same way that your suggestion would. Annie
  16. Hi there! You might like to visit the NZ GPS Society Forum NZ GPS Society Geocaching Forum, and let us know about it there. Or visit Kiwicaching and tell the people there too. Not that many New Zealand cachers read this forum here . Annie
  17. As has been said, activate your bug now. Also make sure that you log it through at least one local cache near your home so that its journey and its miles start from your home area. We have been travelling recently and did not log the coins or bugs that we found for 3 or 4 or 5 days at times as there was no way of getting an internet connection. We had no problems from anyone over it. Most people are sensible enough to figure out if someone is travelling and to realise that a trackable may not be logged for a few days. Annie
  18. I can not help you with your question at all as we use a Garmin Legend GPS. However, alot of NZ cachers can be found in here: NZ GPS Society Forums Come and ask your question there and you may get some answers. Annie
  19. Go to this page: Trackables and enter that engraved number that is on the dog tag into the box that says "Enter the Tracking number". This should lead you to the travel bug's own page. Check very carefully whether the number has o or 0 or any other numbers & letters that can be confused. Annie

  21. Oh you so have my sympathy!!!! I was just coming in to this thread to post that our nearest unfound is about 50 metres from our backdoor. It is the false co-ords of a puzzle that a caching pal put there to taunt us!!! We can not solve the puzzle, but either could he solve the puzzle that it's revenge for . Other than that we have 7 caches in 10 kilometres (about 6 miles) - three are probably missing, one is an even harder puzzle, and the other three are longish walks up hillls that we just have not had a chance to get to yet. Our nearest run of the mill traditional is about 40 kilometres (25 miles) away. There are 13 other caches with some degree of difficulty or time involved in between. Time is our main prohibitive factor for getting most of them. Annie
  22. Place the cache. Rate it five for terrain. Make it very clear on the cache page the skills and gear that will be needed. Sit back and wait a year or so for the first log! Those who find it will really enjoy it I am sure. I like to climb trees, but haven't the skills to do a really tricky one like that sadly. Annie
  23. If that is what you would like to do, go for it! The way that my husband and I play the game is that we both go to all caches as we have a 'team' account- but that's just our way. As is often said, you can make of this game what you want. Annie
  24. Well, personally we just trash them. The first couple of times we asked the owners if they wanted them back - they never did. So now we just throw them out. Mind you the ones we swap out are usually a soggy disintergrating mess. I think it is very devoted if you photograph each page and put the pictures up for them to, perhaps, look at. I think personally I would email the cache owner first and if you got a response and they wanted you to either do that, or to mail the logbook back to them, then I would gladly do it. Otherwise the trash can!! Annie
  25. We would have 3 or 4 with us most of the time. At present we have a few more as we are going on a long vacation soon. At the moment we have: 3 Tbs 4 geocoins 1 Geotag and a bookcrossing book!! We have also been asked to pick up another TB on our way out of town as its owner wants it to move in the direction we are going. So we will have nine trackables from geocaching.com and one bookcrossing book when we start off on our journey. Annie
