  1. well i guess i owe hubbie an apology thanks for your input
  2. As said above go to the reviewer they will more than likely helpyou- thumbs up to my reviewer Erik he has helped me a lot on different things and always been helpful and polite!
  3. My hubbie and i went caching a lil while back and found one and in it was a little rubber smiley doll. We've seen quite a few of them and realized that a fellow cacher puts one in every cache they find(as long as it fits of course) Ive also seen where other ppl put in wooden nickles kinda like a mark of they had been there besides just their signature. Well hubbie put in something (i dont remember exactly what) and took this smiley doll. After he got back to the car with it in hand we had a big arguement. I didnt agree with him taking it cause like i told him and said above its kinda like a mark that they had been there and for instance if we were to put in a cache that they have not found that could send the message to later finders that that person had already found it or if that person finds it and their 'mark' was already their i would think they may feel a lil disrespected-therefore we still have the doll. Now my hubbie argues that if its in there its swag and was intended to be traded. We are still a lil new to this and was wondering what the consences about this was from ppl that do this themselves and was their a unwritten rule about this?
  4. i didnt really think it inappropraite as i said we kinda thought it was funny but i wanted to get more experienced opinion thinking maybe someelse might have found it offensive
  5. we dont have any around me either and was wondering the same thing but now i feel thats a go ahead to put mine out as i had reservations but walmart has camo plastic eggs this year and really wanted to make them into a multi here for easter so i guess i will thanks
  6. We found a cache a few days ago it was an ammo box and in it as a trade item was a new (still had the tags on it) 32 A sized cammo bra. me and hubbie kinda chuckled at it but left it way too small for me or anyone i know. But i keep thinking about it. I know the rules of no guns, knives, food ect that your not to use as swag but was wondering if it is appropraite? On one hand it cant hurt anything or anybody but it is underware none the less. the logs either on the log in the cache or online dont say who put it there. I've seend some weird stuff in caches but this defiently is top of my list. Should i go remove it or email the owner or just not worry about it
  7. okay honestly even if it was on the bike rack i would go after it because its still another cache experience and im sure there are others that would also go after it but then on the other hand it does sound like a cool cache container and to keep those that would go after it if it was placed somewhere else i am with the others. Find a pretty park or one of the lakes and find a better more interesting spot to hide it
  8. i have a pretty neat story that inforces the subject- at christmas time we (me hubby and the 2 boys) went to his brothers about an hour from us to do some caching seeing as there were 5+ new ones that needed a ftf on one of them it was at a train station and as we pulled up (the place was closed as it was Sunday) there stood another couple with gps in hand wondering around looking in a tree. this was the first time we had ever ran into fellow cachers in the field. Got to talking to them found out they were visiting family for the holidays and were about 4 hrs from home so now all 8 of us with 4 gps's were looking for this micro and another couple pulls up! Got to talking to him as he was local to the area and fairly new to the sport his father also local intro'd him a month ago and some of the new caches we planned on looking for later that day were his and he was there to remove a cache he put out the evening before because it didnt get published because his own father put one there the morning before. He helped us find his fathers and actually gave us the nano he removed that was his and we used it to start out series of good eats here in albany and yes both father and son have found it. I thought we got bit hard by this here geocaching bug we founf over 100 in 2 months but the son has over 300 in the same amount of time. not sure how he managed that but hey more power to em
  9. actually my mother in law mentioned something about it early last fall but i didnt pay much attention as then it coming from her sounded like an old folks game that was probably unitestering she didnt know much about it then just said it was some kinda gps related scavangerhunt. Then a few days before thanksgiving some friends of hers was telling her about a cache they found at the local drug store and then it caught my attention all we had was a car jenson and didnt really know how to use it but i got home pulled up the web site and read all about it and found out that even my city that not that big had over 100 out there Went out one day to claim my first that was also a ftf and we were hooked. Got my boys into it ages 4 & 6 and its so cute that my 4 yrold is quick to tell you all about geocaching and the last cache he found. We in turn talking about it to his brother and his wife got them into it and sometimes have them with it. Been hard to get much done between work and the awful gas prices.. but go as much as possible
  10. There have been 3 that that was a question of my own and here is how i releaved it- when i got home to log my find i would log it saying that i was hopeing for a ftf but when i got there there was already a signature so congrats to(insert ftf name) for ftf so i sl and put back as found. this way your logging your find so you dont forget to later but you are mentioning that even though you are first to log you wernt the true FTF-- hope this helps-joeluke
  11. i too wondered about that so im am going to try here is one of my cacheshere
  12. i guess its really up to the owner but i agree with everyone else so far if it was mine id want to move alittle than not at all. we have a local tb that has been in the area for over two years in the same zip code but moving it finally got picked up and moved about 4 hrs away by a travaler.
  13. i also take along a walking stick to the ones i will have to hike some- good for shooing small animals or if i run into a snake
  14. Initially I understood your point, but the more you resist the simple solution of posting without reference to the site, the more I am convinced you have an agenda. You can still get what you want without arguing with the reviewer. Post the cache without reference to the site. Mention to a friend that they could also use your site rather than driving around. Have your friend do the cache using your site, and mention so in their log. i totally agree
  15. i have noticed the same thing i types the coords in by hand at first and then after i figured out how to upload them all i noticed that the ones i typed were aroun 20-50 ft from where the upload put them but i will tell you this i dont use google earth to actually find the cache just use it to get me there, find the right road to get there the trail ect. i have 13 hidden and on one of mine there is a trail right next to a boat dock that is paved and the cache is about 1/4 mile down the trail i thought easy right? wrong all the locals knew about the dock and how to get there but then some ppl from out of town logged a find and said they didnt see a trail and said that it was a long walk thru the woods so i emailed them and questioned it they put the coords in their coords in the car gps got as close as they could and then just walked to find out what they were talking about and did the same. come to find out the "road" down to the dock is not recogonized in the car gps and instead went down a road to a car repair shop and dead ends about1 1/2 miles west of the cache (the dock is 1/4 east of the cache) they did the same thing to one of the others also they could've saved a lot of woods walking if they would have looked at google earth before going out and would have seen the easier way in. That i think is the usefulness of google earth not trying to find its exact spot like which tree is it in but how is the easiest way to get close to the cache-- Hope this helps
  16. voted! that is a beautiful place and i hope to visit there one day
  17. actually i am in contact with my local reviewer and has helped me with quite a few things and is very nice and very helpful and i dont know why i didnt email him to start with. thanks
  18. just to say something the other names that were there are local cachers and 1 have met and all them have exchanged emails with and i have email one of them to see if they know anything about it but i believe i was right in claiming FTF espically after reading all this. The other names defintly use this site and this site only to do their cacheing so more than likely i believe it is a recycled log. And as for the who cares attitude from some ppl it may not "count" for anything but personal feelings and some like myself are not FTFs very often and i get a thrill and we have a lil competition between fellow cachers here in the area (friendly competition here i know of other areas that its pretty harsh) we had one go for 3 weeks before FTF because its a pretty good hike and then 4 ppl including myself found it the same day which is why i even asked the question in the first place because in that case noticing 2 names before mine even though i logged them first i noted the other names were there first and congrats the actual FTFer
  19. and give the history of the earlier cache
  20. yesterday we went after 2 fairly new caches both published in the last week that had not been found yet the one in paticular was called a moose loose in the woods and was pub 3/2/08 we found it and when we opened the container there were a couple of names above mine but the dates were 11/27/07 and dec 2,07 i signed my name and when i logged it on the cache page i noted the names already there and said that since it was just published this week i was still claiming FTF. Was i right to do that?
  21. in my area (albany GA) we have about 20+ caches that are disabled and many have been for months i first emailed the different owners to see when they would might be able to get them up and running. i have had 1 so far to email me back and he told me that they had built a house on the hiding spot and that he had moved so it would stay inactive forever. There was another that was logged my a cacher that they were removing the trees it was hidden in and the owner then disabled it only logging it is gone. How frustrating! why dont they just arcive it? i did go to that cache pages and logged a needs arcived and told what the owner had told me. many of the others were muggled or weathered or broken and the owners logged them disabled saying they would replace them soon but most have been down over 2-6 months some even over a year! i hate pulling up my map in google maps and see all these orange caches because they are disabled. Is there anything i can do? I know I can ignore them but im afraid to do that just in case they ever get enabled. any one else frustrated?

    DNF'S

i dont feel new but i have only over 100 finds and was wondering about logging DNF's when i first started i would log every dnf for each time i went looking for it and i have noticed in my area that there are a few people that would log a find and mention that they took 2 or 3 tries before they found it but never logged a dnf for their previous visits and at first on a particular cache i have 4 dnf's logged before i logged a find (dont ask lol) and after i noticed this trend i only log dnfs if there is one already logged or if i go to look for one that hasnt been found in a while and couldnt come up with it (not found in over 2 months). So what i'm asking is which is apporiate? Should i log all times i dnf or only when i think they need to be checked on? what do i do?
  23. also try local pawn shops we got some neat missle military containers we are using
  24. we got one of these for christmas and have loved it until now. IT WONT TURN ON! Yes i changed the batteries to new duracell batt no it didnt work no we havent dropped it it hasne been in the water we didnt do anything we used it for caching last week and it worked fine but when we went to turn it on yesterday it wont come on. Any advise? what might be wrong?
  25. IMO as many as you want to provided you will keep them maintained and keep in mind keep them maintained even if you stop caching. I get really aggravatted when i pull up my local map to see all my smilies and my hides and then all the ones i havent found because they are disabled! Most of which have been that way for over 4 and 5 months and then i look to see that their owners havent even logged in in 6 months. I have 13 hidden and plan on hiding quite a few more. And on top of that we have a guy that just started in december and found over 200 and hid over 50 and counting and i am so glad to see it as those are more i get to find without driving too far.
