  1. I have 3 caches all ready to go. But when I submit for review I just get a 500 error page.
  2. Thank you. All I've been looking for is an understanding of why it's not allowed, so I don't repeat the mistake. That's it.
  3. I understand from that photo how close that road appears. However in person its much further away, it's downhill and not near the highway. The cache is hidden in the very top of the tree, if you want I can take some pictures here to show you what I mean. I didn't notice that picture previously. Looking at this I can definitely see why it looks too close. Also I told the reviewer multiple times that I wasn't challenging their decision. All I wanted was a brief explanation of the rules. I don't think that's asking too much. If they had said "From this photo it appears way too close" that would have been all they had to say.
  4. But what is a "highway bridge" here? I read it as "a bridge for a highway", as in cars flying down the the bridge at 75MPH, which would be extremely unsafe for a geocache. This bridge is for a regular road over a highway, people are meant to walk on it. Does "highway bridge" here actually mean any bridge near or over a highway? I've also found geocaches at nearly all the locations listed there. So I really don't understand what the issue is here. And like I said, I'm sure the reviewer was right I'm just trying to understand.
  5. I think you're on the right track. My concern is that valid caches will be archived. I think it also needs to be easier to transfer cache ownership. That way if someone stops maintaining their cache it can be transferred to someone who will take care of it. So if a cache owner is not responding, in your examples, prior to archiving there would be a window of a few weeks where anyone can claim the cache as their own and go do the maintenance themselves. I also think it should be every two years *unless there was a found log*. If someone finds the cache and does not report any issues that should reset the timer. You also wouldn't need to start with a 5 year window that way. Just make it every two years if nobody else found it without issue.
  6. This is the cache, instead of answering my question they just archived it: https://coord.info/GCAAQQC I'm not trying to get it published because I'm sure the reviewer is right. They just refused to explain why it isn't allowed there so I have no idea how to avoid doing this again. I'm trying to understand. The cache was on a tree next to a bridge. The bridge is for cars, people, bikes, skateboards, etc to go over a river and a highway. It has a road and two sidewalks separated by a low wall. The reviewer said "highway bridges" are not valid for caches. I asked if that meant any bridge over a highway is not allowed or something else, and they just archived it instead of answering. I know for a fact there are caches on other bridges over highways so I don't think that's why it isn't allowed. But I have no idea if that's the case or not since they refused to answer my question. If anyone happens to know that reviewer you may want to suggest they work on their bedside manner. If I was new to geocaching I absolutely would have been put off of the hobby by their attitude. Again I'm sure they're right, they're just unhelpful.
  7. The site is still unbearably slow for me. Has been for weeks. Has Groundspeak at least acknowledged this issue?
  8. It's so slow today I can't submit a cache I hid. The form keeps resetting. Has Groundspeak at least acknowledged the issue?
  9. Agreed. People who make caching competitive ruin the hobby.
  10. I can't even add caches to my lists right now. No other website, only geocaching is this slow. What's going on?
  11. I can see caches thanks to Bluetooth/WiFi from my phone, but what about when I have no reception? I tried to download one of my lists, it took forever before I gave up and canceled and it just created a bunch of unrelated waypoints. How do I actually get geocaches onto this thing for offline use?
  12. This is a great example: https://coord.info/GC82N3X Been missing since 2021, and the owner hasn't been online since 2020. What's the process to remove dead caches like this?
  13. I took a long break from geocaching and I'm just getting back into it. Except I'm terrible at finding the caches now. Does anyone want to help me with the caches I can't find?
  14. I hid a cache in a cemetery and got a message that they need approval from the cemetery owner now, which makes sense. My question, if I place a puzzle cache near a cemetery, and to solve the puzzle you need to go into the cemetery, do I still need permission? My assumption is no because I'm not putting anything on the property of the cemetery, but I want to make sure.
  15. Yes, I got into Geocaching 10+ years ago. Long story short a pedophile who I thought was my friend joined me as a way to get closer to my sister so he could groom her. When it all came to light it ruined the hobby for me so I let all my caches rot. That's not going to happen again.
  16. If I knew my final location coordinates, I would just submit the cache with them. Seems unnecessary to submit a coordinate request then the real cache if it's all set up already, unless I'm misunderstanding something. Like this weekend I'm going to a town about an hour away to hide a few caches. I'll submit approximate locations ahead of time, but I won't know the exact location until I go out there and actually place them. I'm not going to drive out there, get the exact location, drive back, submit a coordinate check, then drive out there again to place the cache. I know nobody in this thread decides on the website features, but it does seem unusual that there is no simple way to check for existing caches ahead of time.
  17. So the process to hide a cache is: 1 - Find a general location 2 - Submit a fake geocache with approximate coordinates to make sure the location is available 3 - Once the reviewer approves the temp cache, hide the cache and submit again with final coordinates Is that right?
  18. So if that map is incomplete, how do I actually verify a cache location is available prior to hiding?
  19. I scoped out an area for a cache. The reviewer said it is too close to a mystery cache and they couldn't tell me where it was. I pulled up the map under the "hide" menu again, and my cache is definitely not in any of the red circles. Does this map not factor in mystery caches? And if not, how do I account for these when hiding a cache?
