Am I missing something here? Looks like you can get a Lowrance 500C or 800C for under $200. 500C on ebay 800c on ebay I take no responsibility for these auctions as they are not mine and I do not know who owns these auctions. I am posting this as an information request.

The comment on the watertightness cant be good. I bought my 76s for use on a boat along with other uses. Is there anything suggested for protecting my gps?

I was very satisfied with tigergps.com I got my gpsmap 76s along with fishing hot spots and roads and recreation cds. I paid $475 for the package delivered. I even technically got "free overnight shipping" because living in NJ I am so close to them that ups ground is the same as overnight (well except no 8 am delivery) Plus their price match policy is great. They match anything even items sold on ebay. Although the quoted item has have these 3 qualifiers. 1 1 must be in new condition 2 price must be a buy it now price 3 Seller must be an authorized dealer for the product you are buying. I am in no way affiliated with this company I am only a very happy customer.

my recreational lakes / fhs cd should cover the waterway data missing on mg5 right??? and the poi cd the poi. So the only thing I would have to worry about is memmory space on the unit? (unsure here) btw will the poi and roads show up as duplicates with the poi cd + fhs/rec lakes cd and mg5? I really wish there was a way for me to try these combo's out before I drop another $100. I tried the gps with microsoft streets and trips today and the gps was right on. I would like to check my gps against someone elses in the area (central NJ). You are right about the recreational lake cd being the source of my roads. Thanks Mike

I have used the lock on road feature but it doesnt seem to help. Actually I dont even see a difference with it on or off.

I forgot to mention I am loading my roadmaps from the ones included on either the fishing hot spots or points of interest cd. I forget which one.

My position is constantly shown inaccurately on the map of my gpsmap 76s. It shows me driving through houses and fields. Accuracy read 18' I was shown to be about 50' from where I really was. Waypoints entered by cords are also shown away from where they really are. Even the geocaches I download from here and transfer with easy gps. I have the Datum set as WGS84 How can I correct this? Would metroguide maps be more accurate?

I guess I should clarify. The POI descriptions are that long.

If Garmin can use long waypoint desciptions. why cant we? I have a gpsmap 76s and the fishing hot spots cd and some of the waypoint descriptions in there are 1+ page long. I would love to be able to enter some of the info for finding caches into my gps but the current state of waypoint descriptions wont allow it. Thanks Mike

Ok I went with my fiance today to try to find our first cache but we were los when we got to the location. Plus we relized that we had no idea of exactly what we were looking for or how to find it. The fishing hot spots and poi cds added alot of local of road data to my maps. Although they are not as up to date as the metroguide maps. I dont know if they support autorouting feature but the routes created have major turns listed as waypoints but the trails dont follow roads.

Autorouting is not working properly on my pc. When I try to make a route it skips minor roads making just a straight line from major road to major road. Is this because I dont have metroguide installed? I have poi and fishing hot spots cd's installed. Thanks Mike

Ok well I loaded some software into my 76s and I messed up my preloaded marine poi's. (loaded fishing hot spots cd along with the street map on that cd) I read in another post that garmin offeres a download to replace the marine poi's when they get messed up. I looked on their site but I could not find the file. Can someone please post a link to the file. Thanks Mike
