  1. I have it now. But I would like to know, what is the benefit of presetting all the caches to found?
  2. Alright, I upgraded from 3.2 to 3.4, I think. I have it installed on my computer, but how do I upgrade the version on my palm zire. I used 3.4 to put the files into the palm, but in the options category on the palm it still says version 3.2 in the "about cachemate" file. How can I tell if I have 3.4 installed on my palm? Thanks for the help.
  3. The gimpmobile should be called the pimpmobile. That is cool.
  4. Pez dispensers are what I leave sometimes. I am finding them at the dollar stores more and more. The dollar stores are a great place to find cheap cache items.
  5. I have a sportrak map. It has 2mb of built in mapping and 6mbs of space available for downloading. I use the sportrak for geocaching as well as when I travel somewhere. It is great on the road for putting in waypoints along my routes. I am pretty sure it floats, or at least is supposed to float. I think I saw a posting on here somewhere that someone was questioning whether it really did or not.
  6. I bought my sportrak map in May of 2003 and I have two small cracks in the faceplate at the middle screw on each side. Where do you find your DC code and how long has Thales Navigation been taking to get the units repaired and sent back?
  7. Brigade Quarter Masters has them I believe. Check your local surplus store.
  8. I use the Sportrac map, and I if you put in the coordinates of point a and b then you can use the goto function and it will tell you the distance.
  9. I bought my Palm zire, with only 2 mg of memory just to cache paperless from Amazon.com for 59.95 and I get a 20 dollar rebate. Not a whole lot of bells and whistles with the basic zire, but plenty good for geocaching. I use cachemate and have downloade one file with 50 geocaches onto it and still have 1.5 mg of memory. So for just geocaching the 2 mg zire is perfect. It is not upgradeable, and doesnt have a backlight. Like a previous poster stated, dont use mobipocket. I installed it first before getting cachemate and it took up 1.6 mg of the memory, and of cours slowed the PDA down quite a bit. Like you I am, or was behind the curve on PDAs. Now that I got one, I almost wish I had one with more memory and bells and whistles. I am amazed at what you can do with them and how easy they are to add information to. I think you will find once you have one that you will use it for other things besides geocaching because of this. I know I did. Good luck and have fun.
  10. Dont forget to register your copy of cachemate. Without registration you can only get 10 records I think it is. Also, there are step by step directions in the cmconverter file. Click on cachemate then click on the cmconverter and then click on the readme file. There it is. I just went paperless and had the same questions. After I asked for and got answers, then I noticed the readme file in the cmconverter. Anyways, its there. Good luck.
  11. How much memory does it use up. I only have 2.0 mg of memory.
  12. I am trying to use Plucker and GPX Spinner. I am following all the directions to a T, but cant get Plucker to install on my palm zire. I go through all the steps and then hot sync. I am supposed to see the plucker icon on my palm menu but it is not there. The pocket query is there though. Can anyone help?
  13. Alright, earlier this year when I ordered three new travel bugs, my first ones, I simply ripped into the bag and took one out and threw the bag away along with the activation code. Now I am ready to activate it but cant because I dont have the code. Is there any way to get a new activation code for this particular bug?
  14. I have a similar question, only I have a Magellan Sporttrak map. I downloaded Mapsend Topo into it and now I dont want it on there because I dont use the software. Can it be deleted somehow?
  15. I have wondered about this also. I figured it was normal. You may be standing still, but what about the satelites? Could they be moving about a bit up there?
  16. In Long Beach there is the Pickled Egg cache. I like this one because of the creativity involved with it. Check it out, it will probably give you some ideas about hiding caches.
  17. I work in a group home with juvenile males, and I take them geocaching on the weekends. Great way to get through a shift and get paid for it. quote:Originally posted by MercRocks:I spent the day yesterday hunting for Placer/Mineral claim posts in the wilds of beautiful B.C. I find it a lot more challenging than caching though. First you have the fun of taking the coord's of a topo claim map using UTM, which builds in about a 10 m difference. On the older claims the coord's arn't plotted using a GPS, just by where the staker figured he was. Then entered in the GPS and away you go. I got lucky on my first two finds, one was right beside the road, and the next was only about 20 m away from the road. Good thing because the GPS said 50 m more to go, which would have put me abot a 100 m almost straight downhill. Got to the other end of the claim to look for a witness post and GPS said only 40 m uphill just off the road...NOT ended up 70 m further up.. Huff and puff, grunt and groan (+ 32 C) yesterday.... The other I checked out was a new one so not to bad to find because if done properly you have a blaze and flagging line to find.. Only problem though was had to follow it for 800 m and the staker hadn't cut the under brush as he had too, and it was all steep sidehill, and a couple of Talus slides to cross . Did get to practice CITO though amazingly found a old pop can and a stubby beer bottle... Ye Ha I wish everyday was that good... Anyone else????? R Without your brain, a map is a piece of coloured paper, a compass is a glorified magnet, and a GPS is a waterproof battery case." " Foothills SAR "
  18. I guess I did something wrong since I dont see it. I can see it in my profile though.
  19. just testing to see if my avatar shows up. thanks for all the help in these threads
  20. Can I find Geocaching.com logos anywhere that I can use on my Cache cards or on buttons etc.. that I put in caches.
  21. First, you have to make sure that it is in 3d mode before you make your waypoints. Second, you marked your home and then walked from home a bit. You need to also mark where you walked to before you do the goto function. It is my understanding that it needs to have a beginning point as well as the ending point. That way it can tell you all the things you want to know, how far back home, eta and ete, etc...
