  1. Wow, quite a long fun-filled day! I'm gonna try n make it for all of the above.
  2. First find was in June '03. I didn't get serious until the end of August, and the actual addiction followed soon afterward. Still can't find enough time to cache!
  3. GCJGR0 archived 03/28/06 due to muggling.
  4. I heard that the State of NC bought Chimney Rock Park and will turn it into a State Park. I guess that means that our plans of a Mega Geo Park are dashed (fallen off the cliff, if you were). -And I had already raised 98% of the asking price. Anybody want their contribution back, or should I just use it to buy CITO supplies?
  5. I'm jonesing here. Got the monkey on my back and no watchlist notifications through GMAIL.
  6. On behalf of the Great State of South Carolina..........-wait, these aren't nominations. But please sign me up for a couple of each. SF-Llatnek

  8. Welcome to the hobby/sport/passion/addiction!
  9. I've got my 97 Geo-Corolla that I acquired from my folks when my dad couldn't drive anymore. I still have my 95 Geo-Camaro (with 212,000 miles) but the Geo-Corolla has higher ground clearance and is much more gentle on the fuel bill.
  10. There is life beyond the lamp post.... (although lpc's are handy if you're out-of-town, jones-ing, or just gotta have one)
  11. Welcome to the Midlands! Email on the way regarding the Midlands GeoHolics.
  12. If I can get my permission slip signed.... To whom it may concern, I hereby grant llatnek permission to attend geowoodstock 5 in Raleigh NC on May 26, 2007. I won't guarantee that it will be the best event he has ever attended, having that much fun is entirely up to him. Sincerely, wimseyguy geowoodstock5 co-chair Thanks for the documentation! Perhaps SWMBO will accept this. PS-She's always asking, "Don't those people have real names?"
  13. If I can get my permission slip signed....
  14. It's not about the numbers, it's the journey........ So.......... who's taken the most CAA journeys?
  15. "Jon&Miki were on the frontlines of the Great SC GeoPolitical War. They not only were instrumental in saving geocaching in SC, but in it's evolution from the beginning of geo-time." -Llatnek
  16. Sometimes I feel that I have to convert everyone with whom I come in contact.
  17. Events keep conspiring to keep me from travelling out of state as well. (Just 'cuz I'm paranoid, doesn't necessarily mean they're not out to get me)
  18. In my neck of the woods we have monthly GeoHolic Annonymous meetings. Even before these started I knew I was a cacheaholic. So when I was asked to attend a cacheaholic's lunch meeting, I replied: A true cacheaholic would take the first step by admitting he/she has a problem. Since I don't have a problem, I'm not a cacheaholic. Since I'm not a cacheaholic, I don't need to attend meetings. Since I don't need to attend meetings, I won't be there with you guys on Monday. Since I won't be there with you guys on Monday, I'll just go to work as normal (unless I blow off work to go cacheing). hmmm, wait a minute.........
  19. Whew......I thought Hologram had been demoted.
  20. As I see it (in an unofficial, non-legally-binding light): Cemeteries are out. All other GC guidelines apply. Rare exceptions are made. Verifiable contact info of land manager/owner/permission granter must be provided to the GC Volunteer Reviewers. State Agencies take very seriously the trust placed in their hands to manage the public's assets (in particular the historically, archaeologically, and/or environmentally sensitive areas). The State Parks are said to be soon rolling out an official caching policy. All other State agencies seem to leave it up to the local powers that be. I would suggest that your sister speak with some local cachers in her area for more specifics.
  21. Way down here in the Midlands of South Carolina (where they loot the food stores today if the weatherman says chance of snow next week), I once had to quit searching for a cache because the sleet was sticking to my glasses. I simply couldn't see.
  22. I would like to know the caches per square mile in WNC, that would be an interesting statistic. In the Merry Old Land of OZ-Guff (Sylva), it's probably 100! Every tenth of a mile. I went on a spree there last summer with Team WeeLee; great time. It's a very target-rich environment (and that was over a year ago).
  23. Present Cache Density in SC: 2.25 million people with 1435 active caches = 1568 citizens per cache. (ballpark figures, just for reference) I know that while we were involved with the Great Geo-Political Struggle (thanks, SCGA!), lots of caches were archived and the rate of new caches slowed significantly. I'm grateful for the recent trending-up in the rate of new cache placement - for whatever reason. Has anyone seen any similar stats for other states or locales? I'm curious. I did a search for "cache density" and such a thread did not pop out at me.
