  1. My GSAK shows that the closest are 5 "boat needed" caches by Harold Wilcox that are 75-90 miles west of Myrtle Beach State Park. Semper Fi
  2. That's why I carry my "Get Out of Jail Free" card (the Let's Go Geocaching pamphlet from Geocaching Univ.) It's come in very handy quite a few times.
  3. Oh, and what's a "distracter?" Littering the trail? Where's the self-policing that we did during the last go-round? My guess is that the distractors are those bothersome, highly visible, unauthorized-by-cache-owner, "decoys" that point the way to the cache. They don't discriminate between cacher and muggle, a "here I am" for all to see. I have seen them mostly in Union County, but they are all over the state. A typical one is a camouflaged plastic bottle hanging by a string, containing a popsickle stick that says "you're close." I believe this encourages the muggle to find whatever it is that they're close to, and help themselves to it. I also believe they've resulted in the loss of a couple of my caches.
  4. I've always thought it's a cool thing to find the oldest. I found the one in SC several years ago. After thinking about it again more recently, I added Alabama and have now targeted my nearby states (just in case I happen to be in that area).
  5. This one sounds fun. I hope to be in that area on that weekend. We'll see.
  6. For GCMA0P Twas the night before Christmas in this rest area park. Not a creature was stirring; it was quiet and dark. No Cacher was seen with container in hand. Not even a muggle to spoil the plan. I drove right up close, up close to the curb. From here I could see that the goods weren't disturbed. I didn't get out to check who has signed, But I know there are many that have logged this find. So I just kept on going, since all was all right, To get back to Ballentine 'fore the end of the night. But I'll probably be late, of this I am sure. I'm addicted to caching. There's just not a cure.
  7. Oh, I see: Summerville, located in the Low Country. The Charleston Regional Cachers meet monthly (Monday the third is the next one - see GC1HFGN). I'll send an email to a couple of my friends down there.
  8. Hi, James- Welcome to SC, where you will find friendly caching folk all over the state. Where in SC are you located? We have a statewide organzation, the SCGA, as well as multiple local/regional clubs. I'm located in the Midlands and I would be happy to help you out if you're in this area. Likewise, I can put you in touch with some friendly folks in whatever part the state you live. Semper Fidelis, Ken
  9. The best of plans.........I had no luck. My coords took me to a place that seemed to match the hint. However, I was unable to find it. I'll log the DNF when I post my "today's activity." Sorry......
  10. I'll give it a try today (wed the 25th) after I try the CAA Louisiana.
  11. If your tourney will be playing at the Pellissippi Fields on the West end of the Knoxville area, check out Haw Ridge GeoCaching Park. There are at least 12 caches located within this park just outside Oak Ridge TN, about 4 miles North of the Pellissippi Fields
  12. Hi, Brad! Glad to see you're interested in SC caches. I see you've already found a bunch. Did you know there is a local group near you (Pee Dee Area Cachers) as well as the SC Geocachers Association. These groups are comprised of people who just love caching! In fact, the Pee Dee Area Cachers are having a little get-together next week on Tuesday (May 27) evening in Darlington at 7 pm at Taki's restaurant. See the event listing GC1C2DM I'm sure you'll be able to hear a bunch of folks talk about caching at that eat-n-greet meeting. If you can't make the meeting, you can email any of the folks that logged in if you have any questions about the local caches in your neck of the woods. For more info on the SCGA, check out SCGA
  13. We have a local cache "Crazy Horse" (GCE484) that moves around within the Harbison State Forest. Each finder is invited, but not required, to move it and submit new coords. Through the years, the container has changed as well.
  14. Meeting Planner, HR, Direct Mail
  15. I'm looking forward to it! Definitely all day Saturday and any extra time that I can "steal" away.
  16. Same here for South Carolina. BTW-Before I ever heard of a DeLorme Challenge, I went on my own personal county quest. (easier than NC but harder than RI)
  17. OK, just curious if there were actually any out there. I thought it might be fun to have the only one in America. Thanks to all for their input.
  18. So, like most of you, I have heard that "several" Wal*Marts around the country have micros hidden on their property (tongue in cheek). Serious question: does anyone know of a Wal*Mart that has an ammo can cache?
  19. This was my "maintenance" log on my rest area cache last Christimas (GCMA0P) ********************************************* Twas the night before Christmas in this rest area park. 20. Same here. Before I posted the SC DeLorme, I first went on a self-imposed quest to complete the challenge. I haven't logged a find and don't intend doing so. My primary objective for the cache was to get people out to see the entire state and all that it offers (and the chance to get some smilies on the way).
  21. Check these out! CacheToberFest CITO Before CacheToberFest CacheToberFest's Friday Night Lights
  22. I liked "Wacca Wache - A Never Ending Story" (GC11C98) on the old Myrtle Beach AFB. GC11C98 No matter what cache type you favor, there's plenty of them in the Grand Strand Area.
  23. One that I found recently (GC11C98) in Myrtle Beach SC requires that you add to the ongoing (never ending) story. I thought that was pretty cool.
