  1. Always up for a Halloween Coin or two. Add me to the list please.
  2. I have been looking for the battery cases that have been mentioned in this thread. Does anyone have a source for them?
  3. It had 91,000 kms on it so about 57,000 miles-ish. It makes me mad that it was stolen because I loved it and I hate dealing with insurance companies because they try to screw you all the time.
  4. My wife and I went on a trip to see Larry the Cable Guy from Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. On the way there I finished putting together a travel bug that I was going to put out if I found a cache near anywhere else that we had to go during our stay. We had a hotel for the night nad after the comedy show turned in around 10:30. When we came out from checking out at 11:oo the next morning my Chevy Avalanche had been stolen and the travel bug I had just finished was still in it. So it registered no miles and is already gone.
  5. I did this a week ago and it's not nice. A guy hung himself and I was the "lucky" person that found him. At least he hadn't been there long.
  6. Here's the link to the newspaper story on the man you found. That must have been very tough on you. I'm glad you didn't have children along. I'm glad that I didn't take my four year old with me. I'm also glad it was me, and adult, as opposed to a younger cacher or a family with younger kids. If you look at the picture gallery for the cache there is a group of three kids sitting on a bench in one and that bench was about 75 feet from him give or take a bit. I'm glad the newspaper article didn't mention geocaching either, it was hard enough to explain to the police what it was all about.
  7. Today on the way to a cache I found a body hanging in a tree. He had been missing for ten days but I am pretty sure he hadn't been there that long. I called 911 and had to give a statement as to why I was there and what I was doing. DNF on this one and I'm still shaken up about it.
  8. 3.3 miles but I will be getting it as soon as the snow melts a little more here in Northern Ontario.
  9. I just recently got my first FTF. For me with not that many finds under my geocaching belt it was fun to try to get a FTF. I think that it is just another facet of the game that makes it so exciting. It goes along with being out in nature (I usually stay away from grab and go micros), rooting through the bush looking for hides. When I got the FTF it was a great, exciting feeling. I think it's a pretty cool feeling to be first but it's not my main motivation for getting out there.

    Stampede

My family and I will being heading to the Calgary Stampede this year and was wondering if there were any "MUST DO" caches in and around that Calgary area. I am not a realbig fan of drive-up, grab-and-go, Lamp Post Skirt micros but if they are at cool locations that's ok too. I'm not looking for super heavy duty 5/5 caches as my 4 year old will be with me, but I would like stuff that is interesting or a good site to see or is really kid oriented for her. Any help is greatly appreciated. kayn_os
  11. I forgot to add that my wife and I also have a Pet Waste Removal company called K-9 Clean. Our slogan is " We're always on Doodie"
  12. I am a nickle miner for the largest nickle producer in the world in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. I work 5000 feet underground. I pretty much get paid to blow stuff up. As a second job I am a pyrotechnician, doing fireworks shows, once again getting paid to blow stuff up.
  13. A simple elastic or o-ring around the rig would stop it from any unwanted openings in the pocket. The o-rings are a lot more durable and are usually really cheap at any plumbing outfit.
  14. They are manufactured by a company called Starfrit which makes a lot of kitchen gadgets and cooking utensils. Here in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada I have been able to find them at Wal-Mart. Singles and a few different combo packs. They hold up to Canadian winters so I'll keep using them.
  15. Sunscreen for those longer sunny day cache hikes. Becoming more important with how harsh the sun is now.
  16. jho135 who did you play for? I play pball as well and it's cool to see others with interests the same as mine. My team just got on with Badlands here in Canada.
  17. My wife got me a geocaching sticker for Christmas but I'm waiting for the warmer weather to put it on the back window of my Avalanche. It has the geocaching.com under it so at least if someone has questions and I'm at a cache and not able to answer them then at least they can look it up on line.
  18. So I am still fairly new to my GPS and geocaching. As the topic is listed I am looking for the difference between these options. I remember reading somewhere that North Up is the way to go but I'm wondering why and what the difference is? I own a Legend HCx if it matters. Asking here instead of on Garmins site because this site has people with the best info I have ever gotten for my GPS questions. Thanks.
  19. Any idea the cost to get rid of the nag screen on GSAK?
  20. Thanks everybody for the quick replies. I do have the hard case already, thanks for that tip though. I'm that guy, that if there is some kind of fluke that is going to happen, it will happen to me!! I will look into Cachemate and the GSAK programs as soon as the kids go down for the night. kayn_os
  21. I am looking to go paperless so I dug up the Palm Tungsten E that I bought the wife a few years back and I since she never used it I might as well. I was wondering( after no successful searches) if it would be usable to go paperless with and where I would start???? Thanks for any help, kayn_os
  22. I am a newer cacher in Sudbury as well. I know that there are many active cachers up here but the only event that I have ever really heard of is the Rainbow Routes Geocache Hike and Seek. I know that there is a 2008 event in the works and I am sure that it will be announced on the radio and local TV news. If I hear more info on it I'll PM you what I find out. Also you can check out there site at www.rainbowroutes.com . kayn_os
