  1. i keep a journal with all the info on the cache name, GC name, the park name or where located, date found, time (if it was a FTF) and then a brief description of where the cache was eventually found. i figure down the road it would be nice to look back at all the info or if anyone needs a "push" to find one i've already got.
  2. not being very computer savvy myself, i thought it was easy to set up and go paperless. i use GSAK on my computer and have Cachemate on the PDA. the 1st couple of times it was tricky but i got the hang of it now and can download 500 caches into both in less than 5 minutes

  5. nah, i don't see it . what cache is it anyway ?????
  6. i read about it the newspaper back in 2006 i believe, and just found the article in January and did some research - been out searching ever since and love just getting out and about
  7. I have GSAK & CasheMate. I just run a PQ and send it to my GPS via GSAK, then send the pdf file from GSAK to my Palm Tungsten. Takes me less than 5 minutes to do 500 caches. There is a tutorial out there, i just couldn't find it. Do a forum search for paperless caching, anything and everything is just about answered in the forums and the tutorial is listed somewhere out there.
  8. the thrill of the hunt Just as in Field of Dreams: If you build it, He will come You hide it: I'll try to find it
  9. i don't know the coords but from gatlinburg on the way out to cades cove there is a couple and also one out at cades cove. can't remember the names but any trail maps from there should have all the info you need. we were down to gatlinburg in feb and hit bout 10 or 11 caches in or around town.
  10. yep, that was my problem also, didn't know i needed it or that it was stuck in the back of the packaging when i couldn't get it to work, but all is well now
  11. 49 currently, the big 50 coming up later this year, unless it's archived
  12. being new with just 71 to my name as of today, my best day has been 13 - could of been more but i tired out at the end of about 8 hours. and that was all by myself, no one else even in the truck. had a goal of 10, so i felt pretty good with the extra 3. my next goal is 15 for a day
  13. Usually you can go to any local library and get to the internet. We went on a trip to Tenn in feb and ran out of info on caches and thought about this and found a local library to get more and post my logs and TB info. There was a 30 minute time limit, but was more than enough to jot down some co-ordinates and make a quick map on paper.
  14. T hanks F or T he C ache , you can go to the geocaching.com main page and click "getting started", there is a glossary of terms there
  15. on the bottom of the "blank" screen click view log, the pics then come up
  16. stick with it, maybe you're just worried about finding it and not thinking. once you get close- within 30ft start looking and thinking "where would i hide it". also it is a good thing to look and see if they have been found recently. i run my pq to show me what has been found in the last 7 days. that way i figure if they found it i probably will. i went out today and found 4 but also had 4 dnfs. i'm new just like you, just got my total up to 62 today. most of all have fun
  17. i guess becuase i've always been an Ohio State and Cleveland Browns fan
  18. By finding a lot of caches that are very quick and easy to find? if i figured right, thats an average of 13 per day for over 5 years and 4 monthes ????? wow, now thats a serious addiction/achievement
  19. being a newbie with just 49 caches, i'm waiting to place my first hide until i get a wide variety of caches so i know what i want to do for my own. that said, should i not go after that illusive FTF ?? i think not, everyone wants the glory of a FTF, why not me.
  20. we were down in gatlinburg in feb. and i took info on 5 caches and wiped them out in the first few days. then i got the bright idea of finding the local library to get internet access. got info about 10 more and the week there was a grand time. been to gatlinburg many times thru the years but found several small parks and locations i never knew about !!!!!
