  1. Well, when it's a good part of the cache experience, I wouldn't put parking coordinates. But, there are a few places where it would be useful. For example, I have a cache near a highschool. I don't want them parking in the highschool lot because they might get cited, or towed - but the highschool lot appears to be the best place to park. I've included the correct parking area in the description, but I think it gets overlooked there. But, it's certainly not a high priority by any means.
  2. I've placed a couple of puzzle caches. I agree that slowly leaking hints is a good plan. But I usually try to start out with something mathematical. I will also occasionally mix it up a bit and create a multi-stage puzzle cache using micros with additional hints - never giving away the final stage totally. 79 Cipher 27 Transform One of my favorite multi-stage puzzle caches in my area was done by hiddenrock: The Sanford Bases Of course, my all time favorite puzzle cache was done by CacheMonkeez: Central Florida's First Night Cache
  3. Hmmm, let me see. To find new stomping ground, I drove about 35 miles to the coast at 8:00 at night last night. Found 16 out of 19 tries. Got back home at 1:30 am, but refused to go to sleep until I logged all my finds and DNF's (done by 2:00am). I did this knowing FULL WELL that I had to wake up at 7am to take my daughter to a doctors appointment. Uhhhh, yeah. I think it is a compulsion. I'm sick. I admit it. But it is a good sickness... I saw a quote in a cache I found locally: "Geocaching - Obsession without excuse"
  4. Hey all, Some of us hide caches in areas here in Florida where it's very difficult to find the trailhead. While sometimes this makes for an entertaining part of the cache, sometimes it really gets in the way. So, for some of my caches, I enter parking coordinates in the body of the description so as to keep people from parking in dangerous areas. But I think it would be a really nice extra addition to have an optional parking coordinates area on a new cache. Then, these coordinates could be downloaded as part of the GPX file. What do you guys think?
  5. Well, after my business trip concluded, there were at least 8 virtuals I went to, dutifully copied down information from the item of interest there, only to find out that I was supposed to: "take the last digit from the date and calculate yyy" or "after getting the person's name, go to Nyy zz.xxxx etc". There were also several supposed traditional caches where I went to the site, looked around for an hour or so and couldn't find the treasure, only to find out that "the above coordinates are bogus". I notified the respective cache owners in these cases that their cache should be categorized as a puzzle or multi-, but after a month, the caches remain miscategorized. No matter what, adding new categories of caches won't make people categorize their caches properly - GIGO. But, for multi-stage virtuals and puzzle virtuals, if someone has the ability to categorize a cache properly, the PQ would filter them out correctly. Thanks for your consideration.
  6. I contend that for virtual and traditional, the coordinates should take you to the single thing of interest. For all others, the coordinates may be bogus (like Puzzle caches are typically) or multi-stage.
  7. Thanks guys. That's just the information I was seeking. I suppose, for whatever reason, I needed to select all states and provinces before I got the locationless list. That took care of me!
  8. I'm not inclined to place my geocaching login information anywhere other than in my head, or software that's contained within my firewall. Thanks for the suggestion, but I have to think that, with a simple flag on the URL, this could easily be solved by Groundspeak. Even if it's a member-only feature - I don't care. I just think I should be able to query for new caches easily, without divulging my personal information.
  9. I agree that there are work-arounds, if I only want the information delivered daily. The difference is, I can't have a GPX file delivered to me every hour. But I could go to the web site, and search for new caches every hour if I so chose. Or I could setup a change-monitor so that I would get a notification within 30 minutes or so if a new cache is posted. That's why a URL flag is so important in this case. Thanks.
  10. Thanks, but I know I can do it with pocket queries. The difference there is that I would have to load the results into some software package, and then try to figure out which ones are closest to my house. Using a URL flag, I can get a page displayed that is sorted by the distance from my house. Make sense?
  11. Has anyone asked for a new flag on the URL to specify that you only want new caches? I would like to see such a thing. Mainly with the proximity search near my house - I would like to have a URL that would let me search for all caches that are "new" within a 30 mile radius of my house.
  12. I tried to do a PQ for locationless caches, and only came up with a handful. I even specified a search radius of 10,000 miles in the hopes of getting a lot of locationless caches. Unfortunately, I only came up with about 30. Is there any reason for this?
  13. Personally, I'd make it the second stage of a simple multi-cache. I'd place a micro cache under a paper machine at the grocery that requires a high-degree of stealth to get to during the day with coordinates to the final cache. This way, it's not just a simple 12.5 second cache, but it's still disabled accessible. And, it still provides fun for the kids.
  14. Based on an experience I'm going through while on a business trip, I really think we need a couple of new cache types. It seems that some caches are listed as virtual, but really they are multi-stage virtual caches. At first blush, this may not seem to be an issue - but, I used the PQ Report generator to download only waypoints that were traditional or virtual for this business trip. I did (or thought I did) some of the virtuals, and then got to my hotel room to log my find. When I went to the respective waypoints in Groundspeak, I discovered that the information I copied down is only the first of many stages. So, I would like to see two more cache categories - 1) Multi-stage Virtual 2) Puzzle Virtual
  15. I really recommend Soldiers Glee. When my wife and I found it, we were absolutely amazed at the area. It's one of our favorite finds - mainly because we've lived so close to it for years, but never knew it was there. There are two others near by as well. Don't try to find the Camprat Stache though because it's gone missing, and hasn't been deactivated.
