  1. if you are talking about the maps you loaded they are there till you load the next set and they replace the first and so on each time you load maps.
  2. who doesn't with the exception of maybe ringbone. then there is Marty and Ace who only likes caches that rock
  3. Try this Garmin Product Comparison I hope it helps and is what you are looking for.
  4. I imagine a certain amount of Beta time has elapsed since the release of Beta Ver 6.6.2 and that is what you are seeing with 6.7
  5. I don't know about everybody, but I would recommend GpxSonar. Pocket Streets also comes in handy in conjunction with it. There's lots of discussion about this. I wouldn't do it for geocaching. I have GPXSonar and have found it to be very easy to use and besides it accepts the GPX file strait accross without a translator.
  6. Method two in the link provided above is the one I have used and found to be quite easy if you have a Garmin and Mapsource.
  7. I have used this method with Garmin Mapsource and it works easily and does a real nice job.
  8. Caching cross country. Try GSAK and Mapsourse. Create your route in Mapsourse and then save it as the old MPS format. Then in GSAK and load your GPX files from your PQs and then go to GSAK filter tab and then the Arc box. Load your Mapsource MPS file and then say how far from the highway and go from there. Should give you what you want. I have tried it a couple times now and it works great. I just need to buy a license for GSAK still
  9. I have a Garmin and a Pocket PC unit and have often wondered the same thing. Did find a cable to connect the two but without knowing if or how to download coordinates to GPS not sure cable is worth it.
  10. I have kept my V upto date without any problems.
  11. Compass? Not exactly sure what you are trying to turn off but if you go to the map page and hit the menu button > go down to stop navigation and hit enter you might get what you want. If not I do not know of a Compass feature in the Garmin III.
  12. I use GPX Sonar. Once I am at a location such as home or a campground, etc. I use the GPS to find the nearest cache. I then find it on my PDA and within GPX Sonar I can tap and hold on that cache and set it as center. The rest are then sorted by distance from there.
  13. Not familiar with that unit but in the Garmin V you use Track Log to do it. Just checked the Legend Manual online and Track Logs would be the way to do what I think you are trying to accomplish.
  14. Method two works so well and easy that I wish I had messed around with that feature earlier.
  15. Can't say it is about the numbers for me or I would have tons of finds and my kids would wonder who I am. Hence I generally try to take them on all or most hunts. I too like a nice hike and a good view which I have done so with a hide that today has only seen 2 visitors for its short hike. My kids come first so if it is a urban cache in the walmart parking lot that we go for then that is what it is. Come to think of it our Walmart does not have a cache and this town could use a few more. I might just have to go place one on each side of the center.
  16. Since you are not a premium member I will start the count down. 5 - 4 .....
  17. I have both the Garmin suction-cup mount and the Bean Bag mount for my V. I much prefer the Bean Bag one. As for CA and windshield suction-mounts I have never heard of such a thing. Also have noticed many of people with those note pad things that suction to the window and some have been patrol cars.
  18. Please no music. But if you must please try it the way Markwell says in the post linked by the Chicken.
  19. I believe all Garmin Units over right over the previous install. Each time you load maps you need to load all the ones you want in one upload, Topo & City Select and then within the GPS turn on either the Topo when you want it or the City Select. That is what I do with my V.
  20. Do not know if I should agree or not. However I am still waiting for a good replacement for the Garmin V ... so I wait and I wait and I wait and I wait ..........
  21. I'm asking that if you can place a traditional, do so. I understand the cost involved. I've hidden a dozen traditional caches at a cost of about $20.00 each just to see the contents degrade to less than $1.00 in a month. However that is another topic. just hate to see micros where traditional will fit.ros have their place, but I believe that where a traditional could be placed, it should. I don't mean to cause angst, just some thought as how and what type caches we place. El Diablo ... like Micros in the Woods I recently found a few of these and looked around at all the places a large could have been placed.
  22. Thanks for the outline. I have been wanting to try this and now with your outline it should go easier. Looked at your profile and suspect you have been to my neck of the woods a few times. I live Lompoc just outside of Vandenberg Air Force Base.
  23. It is my understanding that Garmin Support for repairs and replacement is superb.
  24. Caching with the kids is great fun. I generally do not go with out them if it can be avoided ... besides nobody thinks twice about them crawling and poking around for the cache box unlike if I were seen the police might be called.
