  1. I think GSAK is the way to go. the Lowrance conversions work like a champ. We use it exclusivley with both an IFinder and IFinder Pro. It will do the work of a couple of programs with a couple of clicks. Worth a download to try and worth more than the $20 or so one time cost. Great board for support and questions monitored by Clyde who wrote tha software. Being a premium member of Geocaching helps get the most out of it. Chris
  2. Until about a month ago we used beardedbosn&juju I am a retired Coast Guard Warrant Boatswain, juju is a contraction of the wife's name. We thought we needed a change and feel that the new name better describes our geocaching technique!!
  3. I have found the posts, either informative, useless, funny, or irritating. Just a few months shy of 3 years geocaching ,I made this post only to break the #10. Guess I am just one of the silent majority.
  4. We just changed our name within the last couple of days. The new name reflects our geocaching style better then "beardedbosn&juju"
  5. LOWRANCE I love this program and probably will never get aquainted with all its features. I use a Lowrance GPS and would like to see the export of Lowrance.usr files in the drop down menu. Right now, the only way I have found to load these waypoints to the SD Card is using GPSbabel directly, outside GSAK. Since GPSbable is running within GSAK can the Lowrance option be added to the menu? Thanks, Chris
  6. I might be able to help with one of your topics. I have owned a Lowrance ifinder for almost two years and use Mapcreate software. I have created maps for areas that I want to geocache in and for use in the vehicles as we travel. I find the software pretty accurate and relatively easy to use. Let me know what you need. I was beginning to think that I was the only one out here using Lowrance. Chris
  7. No one ever talks about the ifinder by Lowrance. At about $100 (at some Wal-Marts) and online it is great for geocaching. External card slot to handle megs of data; optional mapping software will show roads in most cache locations. WASS capable and accurate. Almost 2 years of use and no problems. I think it is worth a look, lowrance is a well respected name in the marine electronic field.
  8. We full-time RV and cache while traveling all over the country. The local history and the unique locations we have been led to just add so much to this activity. We know that we have been to places the locals do not know about. Go for it!!!
  9. Here is what I think is a good example of a muti micro cache that used gravestones for gathering information for the coordinates. The final was on the property, but not at a grave site. "Tour de Sequim (part 1)" (GCGMZV) Beardedbosn
  10. Yep, that is exactly what we do!! Isn't technology wonderful!!!!!I have to get one
  11. We have had our i-finder for almost a year. After close to 120 finds in about 10 states we can tell you that it can be very accurate. We have the mapping software because we wanted to be able to use it in the vehicle when traveling and the card is a great feature. We find the detail street map very useful in our location hunting. We full-time RV and are always in an unfamiliar area. The one downside is that we have not been able to find a way to directly import waypoints into the unit, even directly to the card. The format Lowrance uses is different from the Magellan & Garmin. We find it not difficult to enter the waypoints manually. We carry a Palm with the cache info and prior to that we carried printouts of the pages we needed. We think it is a lot of unit for the money, hope this helps. Beardedbosn & Juju
  12. Some of the posts are great. We have run into a couple of Geocachers and just said hello. We were just getting to the final of a multi-cache in Port Angeles, WA when we looked over the bank and saw a geocacher at the final. Well, it was "pcakes" the owner making a check. Had a good conversation and parted ways. One suggestion on how to AVOID other cachers. Stop working and do most of your hunting during the week!!! Works for us!!!!!
