  1. Thanks for fast replies. I never even thought about running the pocket queries each week and refreshing to my gps. I will have to try that out. I haven't had my montana very long so i'm still learning the ropes. I used my samsung galaxy note 4 smart phone for geocaching before, so caching with a handheld gps unit is different but i'm learning more and more each day. Thanks again for info jocko126
  2. Hi all. I have a montana 650 gps unit and i loaded some pocket queries to it. all the caches showed up just fine on the unit. My question is can i remove a single cache as i find them or do i have to find all the caches in the query an remove the pocket query from my sd card. Its not a big deal but i was just concerned about saving space on sd card. Between the pocket queries and maps i loaded i used a bunch of space. I would hate not having any space left and a lot of new caches becomes available in my area. any info or advice would be great Thanks jocko126
  3. Hi all. I got 1 of the 2 leap day souvenirs last weekend. I found a cache but was not able to go to an event. I really like going after souvenirs and so does my faimily. Does any know or can someone point me in the right direction to a list of upcoming souvenirs for this year. I don't even know if a list is even avaliable yet. Any help would be great. Thanks Jocko126

  5. Cool. I will look into buying it,but I'm in no hurry. I'm still learning how to use my GPS unit. I always used my phone before to find geocaches.I may use phone and GPS both until I figure out all the bells and whistles my GPS has. Thank you for the information Jocko126
  6. Hi all. I recently got a garmin montana 650 and i'm loving it so far. I loaded some topo maps and some navigation maps that were free and there very nice but they are kind of out dated. I live in an area with a lot of one way streets and when I try to you to a geocache it tries to have me go the fastest way even if I need go down the wrong way of a one way street. I guess my question is if I pay for garmins navigation maps will they be better and more up to date or will same thing happen. I don't want to spend the money if its not needed. Thanks and any help would be great. jocko126
  7. thanks guys for new info. it really helped alot. I will figure this all out sooner or later. It's just a little different than using a smart phone. Thanks again jocko126
  8. Thanks again for all the great help. I read up a little about installing the maps.I went to gpsfiledepot and was able to get some ice topo maps. they installed in no time. so I the decided to go to openstreetmaps and try my luck. Well thats when my luck changed. Is there a trick to it? do I need a special program to open up the file? Do i need bur files to disk before i can load maps. I tried downloading several different maps from there and each one is a disk image file. I am usually pretty good at catching on to new things but this one has me stumped. I downloaded map set tool kit, and i also downloaded my trails with no luck yet. If someone can help me out or point me in the right direction that would be great. Thanks again jocko126
  9. thanks for the fast replys. Atlas Cached- yes it's a montana 650 JohnCNA- I already downloaded basecamp. I knew about openstreetmaps and gpsfiledepot. It seemed a little confusing to me. is it easy to set up. I know it would be cheaper but would it be more easy to just buy maps from garmin. Also is it true i can only store 12000 caches on my montana. I figured I would be able to download a crapload of caches. I thought some gps units came preloaded with over 250000 caches. I guess i will get used to it the more i use my unit. It's just a different way than using my phone. I would like to get the best maps and other tools to make it as close to my phone as possible. That would make the transision a bit more easy for me and my family. Thanks again for help jocko126
  10. Hi all. I just purchased a garmin 650. It seems to be a great unit, but i'm still learning the ropes. I have calibrated the screen and the compass and I figured out how to load pocket queries. I don't have any maps yet. I was thinking about getting a sub to birdseye and i wanted some kind of street navagation maps but really dont know what maps I need to buy. I live in town, so I do in town catching as well as out in country catching. I also go hunting and fishing. I would love to find maps of all of usa. Back on point. lol. i read somewhere that i can only load 12000 caches to my montana. I live in Ohio and there are a lot more than 12k catches here.I would like input on the best way to maximize the whole state to make pocket queries so i have a bunch of catches all around me. Also if anyone has any ideas on the type of maps I need that would be great. This is my first gps unit. I always did my caching from my phone up till now. Thanks for any help I get and any tips would be great. thanks again jocko126
  11. Thanks for the reply. I will need to renew my membership one way or the other. Geocaching is just do addicting. Lol.
  12. Hi all I been a member since July if i remember correctly. I started out as a free account, but i quickly upgraded to premium account during the same month. When i purchased premium time I did that through my android phone. It was a 3 month premium membership. My payment was automatically added to my phone bill witch is what I wanted. Now my premium membership is going to expire on October 8th and i want to renew again the same way as i did before through my phone. The problem is I am not finding the option anywhere on google play or anywhere on my phone. Can I only buy premium 1 time through my phone, or maybe I have to wait until premium time runs out. Maybe I am just looking in wrong place. Please help. Thanks in advance. jocko126
  13. Hi all. I am working on a mystery cache that has a bunch of different mystery caches. I have them all solved but 2. The first one I'm having trouble looks like it may be braile but I try to copy and past it to look it up on a braile website or a decipher app and I can't copy it. It's like it's a picture with braile in it. The other cache is a set of coordinates and in the place of a few numbers there is letters. I been stumped for over a week now. I don't want anyone to just tell me the answer. I would just like to be pointed in the right direction. Maybe an app to use or a good website that tells me more info on how to solve mystery caches. I have looked around Web and so far no luck.I m still pretty new to geocaching, so I still have alot to learn. Thanks in advance for any help I recieve. Jocko126
  14. Hi all. I'm new to geocaching. i'm still trying to figure the app out as well as using compass and all the other premium features. My question is is there a way to organize a caching outing to get the most caching. What I mean is I don't want to be driving back and forth doing a bunch of backtracking. Is there a tool or something that will help to organize caches so I can save as much time and gas as possible while getting more caches in the process. Thanks in advance Sorry if I posted in wrong area or if question has already been answered jocko126
