  1. even if the thread that holds it on fails you could always use a high tension fishing line or if your like me and tend to go overboard you could either zip tie it or piano wire. p.s. I just ordered one of the patches which will go directly on my cache bag
  2. hmm just might have to order one of these and attacked it to my caching bag
  3. actually there is a Geocachers of Rochester group. http://www.georoc.org/index.php speaking of which I need to sign up at their site
  4. I personally have the 76CSx and it is a really really nice unit. Rugged, waterproof, it floats. I have the City Navigator NT maps on my unit and it works very nice for turn by turn directions. if your looking for a quality unit then I recommend the 76CSx. of course I prefer the buttons at the top of the unit and the 76CSx fits my hands really well.
  5. Personally I own a Garmin GPSMap 76CSx and really really like the unit. Rugged, waterproof, it floats, very good reception under heavy tree cover. others will recommend the 60CSx as the end all be all unit for geocaching, the only difference between the 60 and 76 is the button placement and the fact that the 76 will float. others will make their own recommendations. if money isn't an option you could always look into the Colorado series from Garmin. most Garmin gps units produced in the last 2 years have high sensitivity receivers in them. for example the GPSMap 76CSx and 60CSx both have the high sensitivity receivers in them. depending on the environment the high sensitivity receivers can put you withing 10 to 15 feet of the cache. sometimes closer if your lucky. for example I was under very dense tree cover Saturday afternoon looking for a cache, glanced at the gps and I was within 3 feet of the cache, after that it took 30 seconds to find the cache.
  6. I haven't actually done this with my Ipod yet but this is just my best guess at a solution. Make sure you have GSAK configured to the correct port that your Ipod is connected to. That sounds like it might be the problem. Thank for attempting to help me but I don't know how to check that the port my iPod is connected to and the port my GSAK is configured to is the same. FWIW, my iPod is on my c drive as is my GSAK. *sigh* Guess it's back to printing out the papers. this is actually an easy fix for you. when you plug your iPod in, open My Computer, your iPod should be listed as G:) iPod or something along those lines. Go into GSAK and set the drive letter to whatever the drive letter was in My Computer and it should work.
  7. not on the 60CSx. you could go to the cache "page" and edit the Note section but even then your not going to be able to input a ton of information. I've modified the Note section with the hints provided on the cache page, but for logs and full info from the cache page, you wont be able to put that on your 60CSx. if you have an iPod or PDA there are multiple topics on how to go paperless with these items. I've gone paperless using my iPod, it works really really well.
  8. I'd definitely be down for trying to find a cache like this! just a word of warning though. dont dress up in a big foot costume or monkey costume and try to frighten people. I know a group of guys that are all former SEALs and big into geocaching and they always carry weapons, and I'm not talking knives here, you get dressed up in a monkey suit and try to frighten the wrong people and your liable to have a big gun pointed at you. just a thought/warning
  9. A Bison is the correct name of the large prairie beasts that roam North America that many (most) mistakenly refer to as a buffalo. But I suspect the above references will be better for you....... hmm, this makes me wonder if someone will eventually build a cache the size and look of a a real life bison....
  10. Personally I have the GPSMap 76CSx and it is a truly awesome unit. Sure it doesn't have voice prompts for auto-routing but it will alert you to when you are coming up on your turn. I held the 60CSX at Dick's Sporting Goods and could not stand the buttons at the bottom of the screen, so when I saw the 76CSx I knew instantly thats the unit I wanted. Got the Cit Navigator Maps back in February and now the 76CSx is perfect for all my needs. unfortunately it seems that the 76CSx is outside of your price range right now, it runs approximately $250 on Amazon.com, probably can be found for less if you look around. so I'd say listen to what others recommend for the $100-$150 range.
  11. that is truly one awesome looking coin! personally if I found one and it was unactivated, I'd activate it and keep it in my collection. I have an intense fascination with dragons and would just keep the coin.
  12. I just received my two v2 Pirate Sword coins from Hogwild Stuff. these are amazing coins!!
  13. very interesting. I just scanned through my junkmail folder and there was an email from Hogwild Stuff stating that my order was complete. This makes me think that sometime next week its possible that I'll have my two v2 swords in my possession...
  14. aye, your not the only one waiting on these coins. I'm waiting for the two v2 swords that I ordered. though there was an email on April 30 mentioning that they have received some coins and were hoping to have the rest of the coins this week. somehow I doubt they have received the coins.... I know it takes time for the coins to be minted but I didnt think it would take 40+ days... Yup, I'm waiting for V1 still. Unreal. wow man, if your still waiting on the V1 coins I think you have every right to fire off an email to Hogwild Stuff and ask them where your coins are. though I thought I read somewhere in this thread the most, if not all V1 coins had been shipped, mind I could be thinking of another thread...

  16. I have a Macintosh as well, though I have the GPSMap 76CSx which is essentially they same hardware as the 60CSx. Personally I recommend not using the GPSMap as USB Mass Storage, I find it easier to use a program like MacCaching to upload geocaches to my unit and not worrying about having to eject the gps every time I plug it in. Go to the Setup menu then Interface, where it says Serial Data Format make sure it says Garmin. this way I just plug my unit into my Mac and upload the caches with MacCaching and just unplug the unit when I'm done without the need to unmount/eject. now for all I know you have City Navigator software installed on your Mac and are creating driving routes and what not, and need the unit setup as a USB Mass Storage device. though technically USB Mass Storage device are "hot swappable" so as long as no data is being sent to the unit you could just unplug it when your done.
  17. today I received two of the Lighthouse Suncatcher geocoins. 1 Limited Edition and 1 Regular Edition. very very beautiful coins!!
  18. so just create a 10 coin set whales seagulls/pier dolphin manatee sea lion etc
  19. so just create a 10 coin set whales seagulls/pier dolphin manatee sea lion etc
  20. I just received my two coins about 15 minutes ago and I cant stop staring at them!! I love the porthole look of the back of the coins, while the saying on the front is a truly fitting statement for this coin. I'm torn on which coin I like better, the silver LE coin or the gold standard edition... The gold has a nice reflective look while the silver is more subdued but in my mind the subdued coloring of the silver sets off the suncatcher portion of the coin... Oh well I love both coins Now to figure out a way to hang one off the rear view mirror of my truck P.S. before I forget the images of the coin used in the contest, were those the Artist Editions? reason I ask is those images had the nautical flags around the border while the standard edition and limited edition I have dont have the nautical flags. one way or the other I still love these coins, just curious about the nautical flags...
  21. sorry to say this, but according to Garmin's website your unit does not do autorouting. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=173 then select the Specs tab then scroll down to Features. looks like your going to have to rely on paper maps to get where you need to go.
  22. as I sat here reading this topic a couple of ideas popped into mind on how you could mount the coin to the cache. now these ideas are dependant on the type of container you could/would use. 1. if you used a plastic container A) drill two wholes in the top of the container, a little wider than the coin itself B ) drill a whole (possibly two) into the coin C) use a high strength cable or wire, something like piano wire D) thread the wire through both the coin and and the top of the container E) this is just a suggestion, but if you could have someone weld the wire end together it would be much more difficult to remove the coin 2. if you use a metal container (much of the above could work here as well) or A) this is a one step fix. weld the coin directly to the cache. find someone with a welder, doesnt matter which type and offer them a couple of dollars to weld the coin right to the cache container or lid. those are my two ideas for securing the coin to the cache. feel free to disregard any ideas from me for I've only found one cache so far and would probably be considered a total noob ok in all serious though I'd definitely make it a point to go find a cache like this if there was one in my area.
  23. I received two of the 4 Musketeers geocoins. Assassin's Creed and Imperialist Purple. Truly gorgeous coins, the purple, black, and blue compliment one another quite well.
  24. I just ordered one of each and am very excited to see this coin in person. I guess there is a benefit of getting up early after all
