  1. so im looking into upgrading my gps to either the garmin oregon 700 or 750, the only differences i see is the 750 comes with a camera which is no big deal to me since i always have my phone on me, but the 750 also comes with 4gb of memory as opposed to 1.7gb on the 700, and what im wondering is the extra 100 bucks worth the 2.3gb of memory? basically will the 700 perform slower or maybe lag because of the decreased memory? lastly is there anyway to download the us topo 100 from my 64st on to my pc and then onto the oregon? thanks
  2. hello all, im traveling to Canada for the weekend and want to find a few caches while there, while in Canada i wont be using my cell internet or service as i dont want to be charged like crazy, this is my first time caching outside the the US so i have a few questions for anyone that can help me the hotel im staying at will have wifi, so is there a geocaching app (android) i can use that will allow me to download offline maps to find geocaches? i know in Cgeo i can store caches for offline use but im mostly wondering about the mapping aspect of it or any other recommendations you might have? thank you
  3. i never even heard of a story where geocaching was used for criminal purposes like how craigslist can be, does a story like this exist?
  4. also just want to be clear that im not saying im going to be rude to anyone that kindly asks what im doing, ive explained geocaching to many muggles before who were interested in what i was doing, im speaking about this specific situation, that if someone started yelling at me and accusing me of this and that, well i wont give them the time of the day, but if someone is curious and asks me what im doing while showing respect, well then i will be just as respectful and introduce them to the wonderful world of geocaching
  5. Police: "Excuse me sir but may I ask what your doing here?" Cacher: "Geocaching, and I'd appreciate it if you didn't bother me any more" You can take that tact with the police but don't be surprised at what comes next. also its quite surprising you assume ill be as rude as possible given you don't even know me, go back and you'll see that i would explain i wasn't comfortable answering personal questions which i don't believe is rude and that i would ask to "please be on my way", i would not disrespect an officer, and being uncomfortable about answering personal questions when i crime isn't being committed and explained what im doing doesn't seem rude to me How dose the police officer know weather or not your committing a crime? Because you told him you weren't. You could be a wanted fugitive for all he/she knows. The only way they can determine that is with personal information. The only reason I'd refuse to give them my name and address is if I had something to hide. if you believe that then there is nothing i can say that will explain it any better, you believe what you believe and im not going to get into an argument over it on a forum, that will benefit neither of us so happy caching my geocaching friend

  8. i personally would've taken picture of his license plate and called the police myself and waited for them to arrive to explain the situation if im out in public where im legally allowed to be im not going to waste my time to explain myself to anyone, if im threatened ill call 911, if its the police thats questioning me ill answer as much as im comfortable answering, like what im doing, (it doesnt bother me that they need to make sure im not a threat, but that can usually be answered in the first minute of the encounter) if they ask for any personal information like name, address, etc then i would explain im not comfortably answering those questions considering im not committing a crime or being detained and would ask to please be on my way
  9. i had an Oregon 650 and traded it in for a 64st, the 650 wasnt anymore accurate than my galaxy S6, the 64st is highly accurate though, always takes me on top of the cache, im not a fan of the buttons but id rather have accuracy than the ease of a touchscreen, plus i use both in the field, i use the 64st to find the cache and my smartphone to log the find hope this helps
  10. ill be around Camden tomorrow message me Lazarus if you still need help

  14. hello fellow cachers, my name is Peter and im still fairly new to caching with 72 catches under my belt i have a question to ask that im sure has been asked plenty of times before and if so i apologize i mainly use me galaxy s6 for geocaching which serves me well but i recently purchased a Garmin Oregon 650 to use instead for the obvious better accuracy the main problem im having is im completely lost on how to get caches on it ive watched videos on YouTube and read articles on how to use it but im still lost and still running into problems, i know i can quickly learn how to use it but i learn much faster when shown how to do things so i was wondering if anybody would be willing to help me out sometime, maybe show me how to get caches on this gps and how to best use it to find caches and maybe even find some caches together i live in Sussex NJ but work in Clifton NJ, im also in Philadelphia almost every weekend for school related purposes is there anyone on here thats near me that would be willing to help me out this will also really help out my gfs sister as she really wants to start geocaching but is 100% against ever buying a smart phone though she owns a Garmin car navigation with geocaching on it but is completely lost on how to get caches in it like me, i promised her though that if i ever figured it out ill help her out thanks for any and all replies i posted this first in the how to but thought this might be better to reach out to fellow cachers near me
