I do not know the person in charge, I'd have to ask. I don't want to ask, because the general answer is no.
-
A common name in my area is "Are we there yet?"
-
Near my house is a big wooded Place called: U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Sacramento River National Wildlife Refuge. There's no caches here already, which leads me to believe they're not allowed here, but I wanted to make sure...
-
I have one called Antidisestablishmentariasm. Because I really like long words.
There's one in my town called Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia,

Ironically, I find Wal Mart to have a lot of good supplies, but of course they aren't labelled Geocaching Supplies. I can always find a variety of magnets and containers and arts/crafts supplies there, a variety of spray paints, a variety of duct tape, including camouflage duct tape. They have lots of different tweezers and little mirrors in the cosmetics area, and magnets on telescoping poles in the automotive section.

I've used earwax before.
-
Thank you for a definite answer.

An example would be the saved list of all of my caches, I have over 50 caches, and it took a while to put together that list, but it's helped me out several times when I've had to temporarily disable a cache from out of town.
-
yeah, that was my first instinct also.
-
I'm pretty sure saved lists are stored only within the app on your phone, so you'd lose those.
That's kinda what I thought, which is why I asked. I have a lot of time and energy invested in those lists, which help me tremendously.
I need a definitive answer, from one of the developers or something.
thanks

I have an iPhone 3GS that I've had for a few years, and I have the Geocaching app, and it's worked well for several years.
I'm considering buying an iPhone 5 when they come out soon, and I know that the App will xfer over through the Apple Store or iTunes, or something, but what about my data that is saved in the Geocaching App, things such as Souvenirs, Saved Lists, etc.
What will transfer over, and what won't? How?

Hmm, yeah, it sounds like you're right. A friend of mine refers to that place as "The Helipad" But I don't think it is a helipad because usually they have things painted on them. But it's the right size and shape, and location, so I guess it could be a helipad. There's a known emergency helipad in another part of the forest a several miles from here, so that only makes sense I guess. That one is just cleared dirt and a couple signs though.

The lookout tower doesn't exist, hasn't for many years. The only thing that remains of it is the concrete slab that it sat on, which the jeep is parked on.
Yeah, from the Google Earth picture above, it it likely RM2, that is the approximate place I found it.
I didn't know about these marks ahead of time when going here, I was after the geocaches near here. :-)
But next time I go here, I'll be more thorough.
-
So I was out caching today, and I saw this. It looks so bad that I can't even tell the markings. I recorded the coordinates as HH2: N40 02.110 W121 43.118 Now, there are 3 marks at this place. Which one do you think it is?
-
It would not ruin them, indeed just the opposite, as I can find no utility that will do that, or also in reverse. It would not ruin those caches, it would enable people to finally find them. As it stands, trilaterilization is beyond most people anyhow, and still think that it would be even with the tool.
-
The page still says version 1.01 11/5/2007, but yeah, I'm interested. Can it trilaterate 3 points instead of two?
-
Oh. Ok, thanks.

Isn't .gsk for GSAK, and not Google Earth? I thought that Google Earth used .kml or .kmz
-
I was searching for the Google Earth file for the Northern California, and could not find it, just mention that it exists, and even saw a screenshot of it.
Can anybody tell me where to find the actual file?
thanks

I recently found an application for smart phones called FindAControl. I used it extensively while on vacation since I was in several different states and areas. It has it's faults but for the most part I found it useful while traveling without downloading information beforehand. It also links to NGS datasheets. If interested here's the link: http://www.critigen....ns/find-control.
Wow, that App is spectacular, but similar in features to ScaredyCat's page. I think I may like this better though. Now for some field testing...
-
Hmm, yeah I have mine in GSAK also, but curiously enough never really used it for benchmarking, in the same way that I do geocaching.
I wish there were a more visual (map) way. I suppose I could export them all to Google Earth, but that just isn't as elegant.
I suppose I'll have to experiment with techniques.

Have you ever seen a witness post embedded in a rock outcropping before? Cause I haven't, until now.
and...
-
Do you consider this one destroyed? I was thinking about it because the concrete post (the disc is on top but not visible in this picture, but I have others if want them) is obviously not in the same horizontal position as when it was placed there, probably due to land sliding (the place is right next to a large agricultural canal that raises and lowers frequently)

So it finally happened. When I was out caching recently, I saw 3 benchmarks along this old road that I was on. It turns out that I had found this one about 3 years ago and even logged it, but just forgotten. That led me to thinking, since there's no real way to mark them as found, how do other people keep track of what they've done and not done?
Any famous Geocachers out there?

There's that guy that hid a cache on the International Space Station, I think he's the guy that created the Ultima RPG, I think he goes by the name Lord British.
