  2. Alright y'all. I've seen polls about what we do, who we're married to, etc. etc. and I've also seen MANY posts about people setting their TIVO to catch something cache related so I'll ask the question: Do you own a Tivo or other DVR? I'm a "yes".
  3. I'm sure it's different for each region but my two caches were approved in 3 days & 1 day respectively. Probably depends on the backlog and their workload.
  4. I like signature items or anything that is different from the normal stuff. I've come across a few sig items so far and I was really excited to get them (smashed penny with embossed name, hand painted skipping stone, etc.). I've also grabbed some foreign coins, can openers/coasters from bars from across the country and keychains from far away places. When I cache out of the area, I've been taking local items from here with the thought that I'm not alone in wanting items from other places. This means tokens from the Santa Cruz Boardwalk (with the outline of the Boardwalk on one side), keychains, stickers, patches, etc. I normally also leave our signature pack which is a sticker, a temporary tattoo and a toy compass all with the Geocaching logo on them along with my name (Kealia). I think the favorite things I've left so far for others are: - Magellan Color GPS hat for FTF on my latest cache - Sharp-edged utility tools from my defunct- dot.com days - A really cool handmade Geo-caching card that my wife made along with a Geocaching logo shrinky-dink keychain left in a cache in Hope Valley (and hasn't been visited since we left it!) Now that I've rambled....off to find the Precious!
  5. Garage sales are great, too. You can get a lot of pretty cool stuff very cheap. I've found some neat items in the past that I've placed in caches that would be too expensive to buy new (not that these were in bad shape mind you).
  6. Boy am I glad you defined Booty Nuggets! Before reading your list I wasn't very excited about finding them in a cache!
  7. Cache Pirate. Sorry, just read another thread and couldn't resist Seriously: Unemployed eMarketer. One of the last dot.com survivors to go down I suppose.... Much like BrianSnat, my brother is a cop too.
  8. No way. The stats for me are just keeping track of where I've been. If they weren't here I would keep an Excel sheet, but I'm glad they are here so don't remove them! Seriously, I play hockey and volleyball to satisfy my competitiveness so I don't do this for the rankings. Would it be cool to see where I stood next to others in the city/state....maybe I'd check it out but maybe not. Just like others have said, it's the outdoor activity and the hiking that I really like not the count numbers.
  9. The only way I know of is that you can go to your section of the country under the forums and click on your state (mine is California) and you can see new caches there before the email is sent out. There may be another way I don't know of...
  10. Desert Warrior, What a great story. I too am a dog person (2 Shephards) and this was a touching story. We also train our dogs and in fact our last Shephard (Brix) was a fully trained narcotics/protection/ police dog. He died last September and we were fortunate enough to get a puppy from his blood line from our breeder. These dogs are related so obviously there are similarities and it's a great reminder to us of Brix when Hagan (new Shephard) does something that Brix used to do. Not drawing any comparisons here really. Just enjoyed your story and thought I'd share a bit of my own as I'm sure you love to hear about other dog families, too.
  11. quote:Geo-cach-er, n. generally a highy technically competent person with lots of free time. (see also- "Unemployed", Computer administrator, aircraft technician- defense worker- dot-com executive- systems administrator, et.al) Scary how accurate this is....
  12. I've 'found' that I get irritable after about 2 hours of hiking! OK, I think the neatest thing I've found is a full set of deer antlers that either were rubbed off or fell off. Maybe I could attach them to my avatar?!?
  13. Great! I would love one...let's see California to NJ @ $1.99/gallon - Guess I'll have to buy one from GC.com to cover up this stringy hair!
  14. I agree with the previous psots. Don't get hung up on the numbers and feeling 'cheated'. While I see your point about how many cahces you've bee nto, that's not really the goal is it? Besides, everybody that finds those same caches can only post one find too so you're not behind . I just activated a 6-leg multi where you acquire 1/6th of the final coords at each leg. I know some people won't bother attempting it, but those that do will be rewarded nicely with a great cache and location. (In the final cache there are laminated sheets detailing the history of each stop along the way). In any case, I've only got 40-something finds, but if the next 40 are as interesting as the first 40, I don't case it I ever break 100. Just rambling....Bottom line: Don't miss the forest for the trees. It's the fun and the locations; don't sweat the numbers.
  15. Sent you an email re: SV info, but here's a link for city contacts. If it's outside of SV I have no idea as SJ/Milpitas has lots'o'parks and probably a bunch of different land managers. I'll keep a watch for this one!
  16. I left a $5.00 Starbucks card in my first one, and a Magellan GPS hat (from their contest) in my second one. I REALLY like the idea of a ribbon, plaque, trophy, etc. and was planning on having one engraved with the cache name, coords, and First To Find on it but I ran out of time and couldn't wait for the engraving to be done. It was going to be about $12.00 total and I think it would be well received. Just think about what you would like to find and go for it.

We were on a Hash Run that went into a RailRoad Tunnel... about 50 yards in, the Hare had stationed a friend with a cordless floodlight (one of those 1,000,000 candlepower ones) and a boombox with a recording of a Train. _ I hope that someday we will be able to put away our fears and prejudices and just laugh at people. _ That is classic! Reminds me of a Road Runner cartoon I was just in a railroad tunnel today (about 150 yards in) and that would have scared the crap out of me even though I knew the other end was sealed off!! Would have been a great story to tell, though. Thanks for sharing.

  19. Right, I understand about the Hosue Arrest Anklets but I didn't think they were based on GPS technology. They are very effective, by the way. I've known people who've had to wear them. No, not me.
  20. Currently in the Santa Clara County/Monterey County area there is a huge debate/problem about where to place a convicted child molester now that he has served his time (side note: there is no such thing as enough @&$@^^ing time for a child molester and it makes me sick that he is getting out). The story on the news 5 minutes ago said that he will be the most watched 'released convict' in history (I think that's what they said). In any case, the point is that they were talking about how closely he will be watched and said that the police will always know where he is because "he will be wearing a GPS". The ignorance of this was somewhat shocking. I'm assuming they meant that he will be wearing the same type of tracking device that people on house-arrest wear and as far as I know that's not based on GPS technology, is it? If I'm wrong and there is a method of tracking using a 'reverse method' where a wear-able unit transmits via the GPS signal please do correct me. Otherwise, I get no feeling of safety knowing that there's a child molester running around and the police are counting on a GPS unit to keep track of him. BTW, I mean no offense to the police folk out there. My family is on the job and this is not directed at the others who are as well. Just sounding off on the error I guess....
  21. Were you really cleaning up the trash or just rumaging around in hopes of finding a McToy to leave in your cache?!?
  22. Amen Cruzin! After spending COUNTLESS hours re-coding webpages that my wife edited using FrontPage, I finally removed the program from our PC. Now she can either have me edit the code by hand, she can learn how to code, or she can learn to use something better like Dreamweaver (I know this is somewhat off topic from the original, but had to jump in on the FrontPage bashing!)
  23. I've already been there and I've seen many contact addresses, but none that say Marketing per se. I know that somebody on these forums has contacted them before so I'm hoping that they see this post and can help me out. Thansk anyway Woodbutcher68 & El Diablo.
