  1. I agree...I think the problem is what if they don't? Post updates that is! As a consumer? You (general) stop buying from them. You contact law enforcement and report fraud if they don't deliver. Honestly, I see a lot of posts like "I'm really out of budget, but I HAD to buy one"..... Don't put yourself in a position like this. I'm not blaming the victim, mind you, but buying things blindly because they are shiny has to stop.
  2. I think we've lost all common sense. If a vendor uses these forums to solicit sales (announce sales), then they should use these forums for updates. Period.
  3. why i am so glad you asked. coins and pins made them. they are presale due for delivery about dec. 15. and yes robert, it does appear they could be hung on a tree. when i used to have a tree i had mostly angels. i do love angels! there are three colours, red, green and blue. this blue looks very rich! rsg Good grief. Could we have this thread without the drama please? Looks like a great ornament, just not what I would call a geocoin (food for a different and well debated thread).
  4. Anybody can talk about any coin. Maybe the thread should be about who should announce a coin? The question about who CAN was already answered. So was the reason the thread was closed.
  5. Did anybody read this? It was made clear that a policy change did not happen and it was a suggestion. Let me ask this: If it's that important this this coin be talked about, why hasn't anybody opened a new thread to talk about it? Seems like this is more about lighting torches and being martyrs than it is about the coin.
  6. Amen. Amen again. Exactly. I stopped looking at that thread after about a week when the lists were 4-5 coins per post and it just got worse from there IMO. Can I get a 3rd "Amen"? Right. It's not a gift if you ask for it. Thank you for saying what I've always said & thought. Awww, I knew you loved me. Sorry if I took this thread off-topic by mentioning that other thread. My bad. To re-emphasize, I don't mind people asking for a trade. This is how I've met many people and made some good friends. It never hurts to ask. Once. For anybody new reading this, do NOT be afraid to ask for trades, just leave it at that and both parties will be happy.
  7. Have you seen this thread ? I've never understood the begging for coins, either. To your exact question - I've received a number of trade requests for my personal coin over the years and always politely decline and explain that I don't trade and only leave them in caches. I've never received a nasty reply or had to deal with anything like what you've described. In short, a simple request to trade is OK. Anything beyond that is too far.
  8. A nice addition to the series. I love the previous ones I bought at GW6, the 3D effect is really well-done.
  9. Congrats on your gift - I hope you enjoy it! The reason you got offers to buy it is because they are sought after
  10. Thinking about buying a used HP IPAQ 6510 for Wherigo use. I'd be using it ONLY for this and won't be activating the phone. I tried searching for this unit for feedback but didn't see any. Is there anything I should know? Thanks all.
  11. With all due respect, that's a nice story but this thread isn't about them. It's about the practice of attaching things to other people's travelers. Now, if my coin were in a baggie, I wouldn't be upset if somebody dropped a card in that bag (although I really wouldn't like it). But if somebody attached a card to my coin, regardless of whether they moved it 5 miles or 5,000 miles, it wouldn't be right.

  13. I'm going to have to agree with the majority of posts here, sorry. You say this is your first coin - have you done any research to see what other coins have sold for? Anything above $10 generally needs to be extremely rare or unique. Anything over $15 is rare. Anything over that comes across as purely trying to gauge people on price. I don't mean to be nasty, just providing some background to the questions that you are getting. I was born in WA and have a family member that is a big Cougar fan (not into caching) and I thought about buying one for him before I saw the price. That's way out of line in my opinion, but if you actually $35 for them - more power to you. I'm going to stop now before I start ranting about how buyers supporting this coin will only drive all coin prices up in the future, etc....
  14. You did the right thing twice: 1) You emailed the owner to ask and clarify 2) You came and asked the community for their thoughts Kudos to you for both actions.
  15. No, it's not. There are really few people who do this. Agreed - you should always ask. I have to disagree with you on this one Roddy. Just because they people that are giving TLC to the travelers are good people and friends, it doesn't mean that it's OK to do this. What if the people in question were not generally thought of by the community as "good people" - would we think differently? There is a local here who does the same thing - provides clean-up services for travelers, new tags, bags, etc. but I *think* they ask before doing it or attaching their item to the traveler. I wouldn't expect people to think it's ok to alter a cache in any way, and the same thing should apply to TBs/coins. Move it, feel free to clean it up (add a fresh baggie, mission sheet, etc.), or don't. But altering or adding something to it without the owner's OK shouldn't even be a question. There are many of us out there who take care of travelers, clean up caches, upgrade swag, etc. and don't look for praise or acknowledgment for doing so. I don't see any reason for this practice. I know that this seems to be a discussion now about a singular person, but let's keep this focused on the general practice itself.
  16. A story: Last night I'm sitting at home enjoying a nice evening when my doorbell rings. I open the front door and am greeted by a small fire on my front porch. Instinctively I stomp out the fire (I'm wearing shoes) to stop it from spreading. Just as the fire is going out the smell reaches my nose......burned dog poo. Yes, burned dog poo. As the smoke fades away and my own shouting dies down, the cursing starts. But.....below the cursing I hear laughter. I grab my hose and begin washing off my porch and shoes when I spot something at the bottom of the mess. I pump up the water pressure and see that it's something metallic. When all the water and dog poo is gone I'm left with what appears to be a coin on my front porch. Reluctant to touch it, I reach down and slide it aside with my foot. Once I'm convinced that it's actually clean I pick it up to find out that it is indeed the "Coin That Shall Not Be Named". It laughs. This was me before the incident. Notice how happy I look: This is what it did to me: Note the stress. I'll repeat. It's evil - pure evil.
  17. So you rather that more people fall into the same trap? There still are enough, who don't read the forums and are not aware of this kind of going on. It's not a trap if it's an isolated incident or an innocent mistake. See the post below. Also, if there are enough people who don't read the forums, then posting here won't help will it? Agreed. This was my point. This could have been handled completely offline and privately. I'm the first to say that shady practices should be called out here for the sake of the community's "safety", but I think everybody (not just RSG) is a bit trigger happy to bring things into the forums right now given some of the other issues going on with vendors, etc. in other threads. Now you could argue that nobody can define a pattern until somebody speaks up, but the OP came here before even hearing back from the seller which I think is wrong.
  18. If it's a larger issue (selling multiple coins) than I agree that it's a valid discussion. When I read it this morning it seemed like an isolated incident. Don't know what was edited so I won't speculate although I still think contact between sellers and buyers should occur before bringing things into the forums.
  19. Sounds like this should have been handled via an interaction between you and the seller - which it ultimately was. I don't see why this was brought into the forums at all.
  20. In regards to that Dark Yime. It's pure evil, I can feel it way out here on the Left Coast. I suggest that you not mention it's name any longer and refer to it as "The Coin That Shall Not Be Named" (insert TM here).
  21. Not to mention that not matter how much you wash them, you'll never remove the smell to a point that animals won't smell it. Found one or two of these over the years and most have been nibbled on.
  22. I've stayed out of this for a number of reasons: 1) Titanic = geocoins? Not getting it... 2) Way too many issues with this vendor since they've been around IMO (regardless of ownership, etc.) 3) I've never seen this company act professionally, as a business should That being said, it's been interesting to see this play out, so to speak. Over the years I've seen a lot of people come and go, companies do good and bad and people get burned. It's nice to see Groundspeak step in to help the community out and avoid a "Wyoming coin incident" but it's a real shame that they have to. I have to agree with the statement made about using the forums to promote and sell coins, but avoiding them for updates. Every person in here is a potential customer, although I've always disdained that label. I've always thought of this as a community - where you have good, bad, and indifferent people. As such, I commend those who are looking out for each other. As for these coins? I'm waiting for the day when everybody comes in and says "Got 'em". Edit: changed Colorado to Wyoming - thanks AG.
