  1. uh...ok.ok.ok. I won't. But I don't at all understand why it is so offensive? It is a CHRISTMAS PARTY EVENT... thought it might be nice to have christmas music playing in the background. I don't understand why that matters at all to most people. Help me understand.
  2. Anyone know how to make music play when you open a cache page? I want to add christmas music to my christmas event cache page. I know I've seen it done... but don't remember which cache and want to know how to do it!
  3. Diamond earrings!! Or rather a coupon for the FTF to exchange a tacky bracelet in the cache at the local jewelry store (owned by one of my favorite geocachers!) for a pair of diamond earrings!!! Boy am I one happy cachin' girl and soooo fun to show off to my friends that think I'm nuts for hunting for ammo boxes full of crap in the woods!
  4. Does anyone know how to make music play when you open a cache page? I know I've seen it done but don't remember what cache! Want to add it to my christmas event page.
  5. I can top those!!! Found a pair of diamond earrings today I'm one happy girl. Actually found a note for FTF to exchange a cheezy bracelet in the cache at the local jewelry store (of which a local cacher is the owner) for a pair of .25 ct diamond earrings. OMG was I excited! They are happily sitting in my earlobes right now! Thanks GoCoastal!
  6. Anyone know anything about snow shoes? I've never had a pair and have just started looking but I am baffled by the range in shapes, materials and cost. Any suggestions? I don't plan on climbing, just regular ol hiking... but in the snow!
  7. Well, I did it ... finally bought one. I tried on a Mountainsmith Trillium and LOVED IT.... but it was $179 and I wasn't quite sure I could invest that much. Then I looked at www.mountainsmith.com and saw that the Trillium's predecessor, the Laurel was in the "bargain bin" for $65 and INCLUDED a set of their trekking poles that sell for $50 by themselves! It is great. Lots of pockets, sturdy and made of recycled plastic bottles! Love it. It does have a couple of downfalls (no pocket on the waistbelt to stash the chapstick in, top loader, no removable little daypack like the Trillium) but for the price and quality I still feel like I stole it! Thanks for everyone's advice! I leave Friday for my first little overnighter! Woohoo!
  8. I've lost 70lbs since I started geocaching. NOthing like a good hike to peel off the pounds. Keep having your friends hide new caches in hard places and you'll be at your goal before you know it. NOthing like a FTF to inspire a little exercise! I'm going to treat myself to a new women's backpack with hydration as soon as I can decide which one! I borrowed my friend's on a recent hike and it was great... just think a women's would fit me better.
  9. I haven't read the forums since just prior to the phone's release. Now that you've had it in your hand.... how well does it work? Is it as good as a "regular" GPS? What about under cover? Lots of trees where I live. Can you believe the guy in the phone store won't let me take it out on a trial (trail!) basis?! Let me know what you think.
  10. Hi, I borrowed a hydration pack yesterday on a 14 mile hike and I think I need one now. I've been on just a couple of all day hikes and have suffered through with our crummy, normal backpacks, no sternum strap, no waist strap. Yesterday was much easier in the backpack department (terrain was a killer!). Suggestions? I don't want cheap and I don't want the "platinum" version.
  11. Well, I think I already know where the final is... so I'll just go look for it without the coordinates. Thanks for the lesson in "proper geocaching".
  12. Wow! Sorry for asking. Just stumped and as for the puzzle being the main difficulty in this cache... you're wrong. The terrain is equal or harder. The "hider" is my friend. I'm not asking him for help. He is probably reading this laughing at me now! I will refrain from poor etiquette in the future. sorry.
  13. We are working on a series of caches and the 4th one is a two stage. In the first stage is a strip of paper saying N 4 S 7E 16 3 WE 699 II W 84 64 W86 3 X 7 SIP Anyone familiar with this type of code? I just need to know what type of code it is and I'll figure the rest out. Thanks!
  14. We were at a two part cache today. The first stage has a strip of paper with numbers and letters on it and it is supposed to tell us how to get to stage two but I don't know how to figure it out. The code looks like this.... anyone recognize the type of code? N4 S 7E 16 3 WE 699 II W 84 64 W 86 3 x 7 S I P (up arrow)
  15. I have the magnetic TB you can order in any color to match your car. I think it is really cool but live in a rural place and so far no one has "discovered" it. :-( It's been there a couple of months. It too has survived the powerful carwash!
  16. With the price of gas and 98,000 square miles of Oregon... you are so right!! I'll have to ebay my kids but I'll accept the challenge!
  17. The thing that excites me the most are pathtags! Few and far between where I live so it's like Christmas to find one. I have 340+ finds and have to date found 5!! I just ordered mine :-)
  18. I would really like to set myself a goal and I have briefly heard of the DeLorme Challenge but can't fing the "real" ins and outs anywhere. Is there anywhere you tell "anyone" you are starting? Finishing? Do you get a "prize"? I know there are special coins you can buy celebrating the completion. Who knows if you completed it? If this isn't the right spot for this post... please direct me to the right place!

  21. important features? Is the electronic compass the feature that keeps the arrow pointing at the goal even when standing still?
  22. Hi, I am in the market for a new and better GPS that the POC (short for Piece of CRAP!) Garmin eTrex that I currently have. I want a Garmin GPSMAP 60Csx but I keep coming across others that don't have all the letters. Can anyone sum up the difference? Is it worth the extra $$ to get the CSX? Thanks! I know you guys (and gals) know all there is to know and can school me!
  23. I am trying to find a program to generate my stats and I use a Mac. Anyone have any experience with one that works well?
  24. Brookings, Oregon (as far southwest as you can go in Oregon. Just above the CA border.... at the beach!) 5 miles- 33 10 miles- 102 25 miles- 316 50 miles- 708 100 miles- 2768
  25. I JUST saw this on apple's page. Most places I cache have no cell service, does that mean I'd have no GPS service too? Or just wouldn't be able to access internet? Help.. I'm so excited, I can't hardly wait!!
