  1. I recently bought a Rayovac Highbeam High Power LED 3 Watt flashlight which operates on 2 AA batteries. As the owner of several Maglites, I have to say that this is brighter than my 5 D Cell Maglite. Great flashlight...I got it at K-mart for around $30.00. TKOFaith
  2. I confess that I didn't read all of the replies to your post. But I didn't see any posts that mentioned my reasons for avoiding multi's. I took up geocaching, primarily, as a way to spend more time with my kids. While they are 10 and 12, for them, it's about the treasure at the end of the hunt. They want to trade stuff. They don't like micros or nanos either. They get tired of looking, after a while, without the opportunity to trade. When I cache alone, I usally look for caches that will get me some exercise and/or are of the smaller variety. TKOFaith
  3. One item that I found recently at a "party" store is small compasses with a clip (they're shaped like a carabiner). I think they were 4 dollars for 10. Otherwise, matchbox cars, rubber balls (recently got balls with Disney Princesses or Spiderman pictures inside), dice, etc. Basically stuff that won't break the bank, but will be about right for my kids to trade for other SWAG.
  4. Thanks, I think I'll post a note. The caches where the items were rehid are 1 1/2 hours drive away. TKOFaith
  5. Professed newbie here....I went on a trip with my kids this past weekend. While enroute to our destination we did some caching. I retrieved and replaced some TB's, but forgot to write down the number. One of the owners has responded to my email with the numbers so I was able to log it's new location. I haven't heard from the other two owners yet. One of them is a Green Jeep TB. Is there any other way to retrieve the numbers so that I can properly log their positions? Thanks!

  7. I agree with AZcachemeister on this. I got into caching mainly to have something fun to do with my kids. I went out and bought $25 worth of SWAG to put in my fanny pack. I know that when my kids "trade (read "take stuff from my bag and leave it in exchange)" those items which they take will probably never see the inside of a cache again. I monitor what they take and what they put in. Sometimes putting in two items for one coming out. Sometimes putting something in and taking nothing. There are times, to my surprise, when my children opt to TNLN. The parents really need to be on top of things. TKOFaith
  8. My son and I were hunting a cache that was just off of a road AND a bike trail. When we first arrived in the general vacinity we were surprised to see a bike rider just standing there. We tried to look all innocent, but he asked what we were doing. I told him that we were just looking around. He said, "Oh, are you geocaching?" I said, "it's a possibility. Are you a geocacher?" He said, "No, but I'm a mathematician and very interested in that sort of thing." I said, "Cool." But I still waited for him to leave before resuming the hunt for the cache. TKOFaith
  9. I'm a professed noob. I started caching about 2 weeks ago. For me it's not about numbers or whether the cache is a micro or normal size. I do prefer the normal caches because, for me, caching is a way to spend time with my kids (and kids love prizes!). I went out and bought a load of SWAG the other day so that my kids can find the "treasure" and make some trades. Besides fulfilling my desire to spend time with my kids, I just think it's fun finding the cache, whatever form it may take. As far as Cache events....I doubt that I'll ever go to one. I don't like crowds And the more people I'm with, the less of my attention is there for my kids. But almost every event has some sales parts, some politicking, some people trying to make themselves look good. I can't see Caching being different from the norm there. It's like eating fish...sometimes you find a bone...spit it out and keep eating! TKOFaith
  10. no. If the XL works like the others in the eXplorist line, when you upload the new caches and save them, it will want to name the file, like "home.gs" Unless you change the default name it will replace to older file. You will also have a file there that would say "home.fnd" this is the found file for your old .gpx I am not sure what data is maintained in there, but others will pop up soon and educate us both... Thanks for your insights. I kind of figured that was how it would work, but I wanted to know BEFORE I tried to do it. TKOFaith
  11. Maybe this isn't the answer you were going for, but I started Caching for the opportunity to spend time with my kids. I have a son who's 12 and a daughter who's 10. I realize that I can't make up for the years that I've lost by not being a very hands-on Dad. But I saw GeoCaching as a way to improve my relationships with them in the time that I have left before they grow up and move out. TKOFaith
  12. I was wondering the same thing! Hopefully we won't have to wait too long to find out the answer! TKOFaith
  13. I'm fairly new to the game myself, but I would think that notifying the owner is the best thing to do. Also, posting a "needs repair" (or whatever it's called!) with your find is probably warranted. I guess I wouldn't replace the container. The owner should be responsible to do so. TKOFaith
  14. Hi all, Still new to the game. I ran a query last week and found several caches this weekend (marked as found on my eXplorist XL). My question is this: If I run a new query to expand the search area and upload the query to my XL, will it still retain my finds? Thanks for any help you can provide! TKOFaith
  15. I am so sorry for your pain. I in no way make small your struggles at this time. I have been in tough places too, and I understand how you must feel. I will pray for you and your family. May God bless you and give you peace and comfort. TKOFaith Tim
  16. Got it figured out! Thanks for all of the help! TKOFaith
  17. Thanks a bunch! TKOFaith (Tim)
  18. No, not yet. When I attempted to do so, the screen required a subscriber number that it said was on my confirmation email. Thanks, Tim (TKOFaith)
  19. I do have an eXplorist, XL. When I go to the hint on the bottom of the screen, it is empty. Thanks TKOFaith
  20. Yes. But it requires a GPX file, not a LOC. Premium Members can download these directly from the cache page, or thru Pocket Queries. Thanks for the reply...I have another post about becoming a premium member...I'm having some problems there too. TKOFaith
  21. I've sent Groundspeak a couple of emails with no reply. I'm interested in becoming a premium member, but I accidentally deleted the email with the Subscriber number. Is there any other way to get this information? Thanks, TKOFaith (Tim)
  22. When I download cache information to Magellan Geocache Manager, is there any way to get the hints to transfer over? I decided kind of last minute to go caching with my son last night, and spent 20 minutes looking for a cache that I never found. When I looked at the hint I realized it was hanging from a tree. It would've been nice to have this information on the GPSr. Thanks, TKOFaith (Tim)
  23. Did the poll, and I must admit...I'm a little surprised at the results. I expected the curve to be weighted on the younger side. TKOFaith (38yo)
