  1. Whoops forgot about that. It was a late night after a long day at work. Off to editWill edit some of them. Taking a pic of the cache after we found it is something we do to help preserve the memories. Its impressive how creative and artisic the mrs is with the pages. Glad she has it as I dont. Now gimme a hammer and I can get results MH
  2. Still looking for some experienced help with the following : I'm working on my avatar in my free time (what little there is of it) I have photoshop 7 and have some pics that I'm working with. I am working on an avatar/sig item design that I can use as an avatar, and also will be able to put it onto a nickel or something a bit larger, and maybe down the road have it minted. Does anyone out there know enough about photoshop 7 to help with the following. 1. I am wanting a round not square pallette to work with. I have used the (cant remember the name of it as I'm at work) tool that gives you a round circle that can be painted in any shade. That works ok, but I still have a square background, but I've made that invisible. Is there any way to do this? 2. I will have a set of cupped hands with an airplane in them. Across the top I want it to read "A mechanics hands" and around the bottom it will read "The Heart of an Aircraft Mechanic" Now remember I'm wanting it to be round to be able to use on a coin or something. Is there a way to evenly wrap the text on the round borders just above and below the hands? If photoshop cant do this, can an early version (about 2000) of illustrator (I think its adobe illustrator) make these ideas come to life? Thanks again. Also also thanks for helping so many others out with this. Its things like this that make this community wonderful and special. Thanks MH
  3. Ok didnt want to disapoint Milbank or anyone else anymore so I uploaded images about all our caches so far, except for our recent Texas caches. Since my wife makes such a wonderful scrapbook, each image is a copy of the actual scrapbook page she made. Some caches warranted many pages, others just the one. Either way I think they are wonderful and have truely preserved our memories. So for all those wanting to see, they are in my gallery now. Geesh was alot of work but will keep up to date now. I will once again post the warning. Any image with me in it is sure to make your computers act funny or just shutdwon from the shock. MH
  4. I love all the work my wife puts into making scrapbook pages to preserve opur memories. Especially a page or more for each cache we visit. MH
  5. Once again I think it all boils back to responsible cache ownership and respect and courtesy for the people who are spending their free time finding our caches. I will email owners if there is some sort of a problem jsut to help them know the stauts of the cache. Recently I had one that the fireants thought it was a godo place to build a home under. I emailed them and let them know just to help them out. I had a couple DNF's on my cache, turned out the parks people were clearing the area and the snagged the cache. I promptly checked the cache, found it to be gone and archived it. I then emailed each person who contacted me about the dnf and thanked them. It made my life as an owner very easy adn I was happy others didnt have thier time wasted. Unfortunately, to often we see cache owners who dont care, who just like to have numbers out there, or cannot be contacted by any means. I hate those as I hate to see people wasting their time. MH
  6. Muir this sounds EXACTLY like the problem I had. If you scroll up a couple you'll see the post I discuss about it. The best thing to do is to hit find, waypoints. Then in the waypoints section hit menu select find by name. Once the page is up hit quit to clear the alphabet and you will then be able to scroll through all the waypoints in your gps. Hope this helps MH
  7. Dont do it KA dont let him make the post nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo................. My hats off to all the creative minds here. And ESPECIALLY to those who volunteer their help and ideas and experince in the create an avatar thread. MH
  8. So far I love mine. I got the autonav kit with it. Best price I found was from www.gpsdiscount.com They had great service, and answered all my questions and I got it the next day after ordering it. (shipped from OK to TX) The thread about the 60cs is great and very helpful. Even garmins tech supoort has been very helpful overall. Once I compared the units in the store to the 76cs and the magellan color it was an easy choice. The auto routing feature when using city select is great. The only problem wiht th esoftware I found was thaton many streets it doesnt properly show where the the specific adresss is on the street. (this was done both at my home and wehere I grew up in oregon) But it got me within 1/4 mile so no worries. The backlight is great and love how its fully adjustable. Even though I havent used it as much as many others yet, I enjoy the unit. Just be ready to digest the huge, but good manual. MH
  9. Kirk, Thanks this is just what I was looking for, to see if there was a way to do it. So on your homebase you just drop the bug in it and do a note? This keeps the TB's mileage correct and your overall cache count correct? Thanks so much. MH
  10. LOL very true Ham. Read the original post again and you'll catch the nuances and I laughed silly while at work. Now my coworkers are looking at me strangely, oh well they do that all the time. And CO I agree totally, its so nice to see people here that care, even if they dont really express things as well as they should at times. MH
  11. I posted this over in the Tb section for feedback and will now submit it here. I have heard many people buy a personal TB just to help track thier caching mileage and to see where they have gone. I was wondering, to help keep a more accurate count and be tracked is there a way to create a personal waypoint or private cache to log them into. It could be set up as your home or someplace nearby then you could log it into the various caches you visit that day then upon your return place it into the waypoint/personal cache. Then the TB would track accurately the mileage and give a better map showing where its been. Not just the current mileage from cache to cache. I know I dont drive from cache to cache but go home all the time and think it would be interesting to be able to track it this way. Thanks MH
  12. In case anyone is wondering, I emailed Garmin about being able to see all the waypoints in the list in the 60cs all at once instead of by nearest.you select find waypoint by name, then when the screen comes up to enter the name in, simply leave that blank and click ok. It will list all your waypoints in alphabetical order that way. I'm going to dl and enter some very distant waypoints and see how it works. Looks like I finally got it sorted out. Thanks again for everyone that helped, and continue to help in the thread. MH
  13. ROFL OH MY.................................... guess that would do the trick. now I LOVE that cache description by criminal. WoW great thinking there. MH
  14. No I havent heard of it. Do you have a link? The mrs does a wonderful job as it is now, whipping some pages out in 30-60 minutes or so. Thank goodness for digital cameras I'd be broke already if it wasnt for the one we have. (wore out the first one already lol) I'll try to post some copies of the pages the mrs does in my gallery soon then let evveryone know they are there. Its really impressive the creativity my wife has. Guess she got all the artsy genes, and I got the thinking ones LOL (now dont go tellin her that either or else I may never be back online again after she finsihes smashing the computer and my head along with it LOL) MH
  15. ****Waving to Norbu**** Still love the breathe of fresh air this thread has been. I like that alot of people, upon reflection have seen some mistakes they have made and were mature enough about it to say so. The fact that they can do that, and we can learn from it as a community gives us a chance to grow. ***wavin back to norbu*** passin over a case of soda in thanks for the thread. MH
  16. Not sure if he does maintenance on his caches as much as people should. He got into it last sept I think and made some typical mistakes, but at least he was trying. There are a couple nice ones near lake Ouchita that we never got the time to get to hmmm Sound slike a road trip will be in order as its only 5 hours away :-) Also if you like benchmarks there is a benchmark near the cache I had placed. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...93-adcc533203d7 The planes are gone, they moved them to a new ramp just as I was leaving. No mroe spectacular view of them. MH Edit: P.S Glad you liked the story Pipanella. I wrote it about 3 months before Jordan was born (story is set when she is about 6 or so in that sweet innocent age)It seemed the only name I could take online especially here that really fit, especially since my family always goes out caching together. My daughter (now 3) said she wanted to go caching just dad and her and leave mom and ben home. Hmm Mrs didnt think that was to great of an idead. She got it all herself but shows how hooked she is already :-)

  18. Theres that keystone character lurking around behind the scenes doing their usual outstanding job and stepping up to the plate. There must be several clones of keystone as they are always around
  19. Small world ehh? During the winter I was working to much at work, and the weather was always nasty on my days off. I never got to try the cache before I moved. However, CHRS was the newbie that I have mentioned that took a whole bag of goodies and many other simple mistakes. I contacted them gave tips and suggestions and now he is a good contributor to the hobby. Love knowing that I was able to help and someone learned from me, just like I learned from someone else. I had a cache overlooking the planes in my pic, in fact the pic was taken next to the cache. But sadly the parks people always found and removed it when they did thier cleaning. :-( ohh well those that found it enjoyed it even though it was easy. I wanted it to be one that peoples kids could enjoy and also let them see the aircraft and enjoy the park it was in. MH
  20. No LB&MM, I do get it. That is why I do not want to close the topic. I disagree with those who have called for it to be closed. That is why I stepped in so vigourously. My only purpose is to keep the discussion civil. I want to voice no opinion in the matter since I am moderating the topic. I am moderating in an even handed manner, and you can tell that from MOCKBA's post after his slap. Feel free to continue the discussion by all means. I think it will help the healing process. Just remember that we are all human beings and fellow cachers. <----- goes over and hands Mtn Man and Mrs Mtn man, a case of Ice cold pepsi, and whatever else they would prefer. Thanks for the even balance, and fair guiding hand. Its very appreciated. Also, to the cacher (I'll refer to them only as John/Jane doe) that I have spoke with that has given themselves a self imposed ban from the forums, (yes they did it on their own nobody else suggested it) for some of the comments made in the heat and passion of the moment, you have also earned some of the respect back that was lost during the posts in this thread. Thanks for stepping back, seeing some mistakes you made (regardless of others wrong actions or comments or percieved wrong actions or comments) and taking action for yourself. I hope to see inputs from you and listen to your viewpoints on things in the future. (and people dont even think of asking me for the name. You wont get it period so dont waste your time trying.) I hope to see more things like Sparky's post, "John/jane doe's" and others as they see mistakes they made and reactions in the heat of the moment and saying or doing things they shouldnt have. Not only does this help restore some of the respect that was lost. MOST importantly it adds tremendously to the healing process that needs to, and is already taking place. Sometimes its hard to step up and say I was out of line, or I was wrong, I apologize and please forgive me for this or that. But in doing so, it helps the community heal and grow more than we may ever know. My hats off to those that are taking steps to help this and taking responsibility for their actions. MH
  21. That was the last airport I worked at in Hot Springs Arkansas. I was a lead mech and managed a storage program of 50 EMB 120 brazilia turboprops that were previously owned and operated by ASA and Comair. By being in charge of the program, I got to meet and work with GPSPathfinder, who got me into geocaching using a Magellan 315. I now work at the DFW airport in Dallas TX. Not as pretty but I love being back. Plus in arkansas there were so few caches withing a reasonable distance that we could go to. Now in dallas I have over 700 within 25 miles hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm now for it to stop raining and allow my family and I to get out and grab them :-) oh and just wait your computer will probably still break. Its probably still in shock MH
  22. We (my wife and I) keep notes on each cache page we take with us then make the log entry when we get back home. I then transcribe the logs into our personal logbook and my wife makes a scrapbook page (or 2 or 3 if needed) for each cache we find. We always take a picture of each cache when we leave. She does a wonderful job on the scrapbook (she does it through print artsist and photoshop on the computer, much easier, faster and better looking than the traditional paper punch and cut scrapbooks) For us it makes a wonderful record of our memories and also will be something each of our kids can take with them as they each have their own scrapbook telling the story from their point of view (or how they would see it through their eyes) I absolutely love it and very glad my wife takes the time to do it. MH
  23. THANK YOU Hydee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is exactly as it should be handled and I know many of us, even most of us, trust that it will be handled properly and we can continue caching and enjoying the friendships we have here. And GPSSax IMHO NO 360 should not bring the results of the matter that is handled privately (as it should be) back into the forums. We have 2 topics and over 7 pages of alot of pure nastiness because the matter was brought prematurely to the forums when discussions that were being held privately were ongoing. I think that if 360 or anyone else besides the GC staff shares openly the matter that should be done privately, then we will have more pages of nastiness and more mess. I dont think that we, or the community, or the GC staff need anymore of that. They have enough work to do without having to act like babysitters and referees in the forums. This is supposed to be a game/hobby for FUN and RELAXATION and ENJOYMENT. Lets keep it that way and lets lets leave the attitudes and meanness at home before you get to the keyboard. And Sparky Watts, I wanted to also say thanks for your apology for a couple of the comments. I'll echo what another cacher said in that you have gained some of that respect back that was lost because of things said in the heat and passion of the moment. MH
  24. OK milbank you talked me into it. its posted. But be forewarned the image will probably break all your computers LOL I am trying like crazy to get my avatar finished but between work and forums and relaxing and family just doesnt seem to be time LOL Final warning about my profile pic you can turn back at any time. MH
