  1. It seems inevitably even "theme" caches wind up with non-theme items over time. I personally will just sign the log if I don't happen to have swag that fits the theme.
  2. Not sure if this will help, but I've used http://boulter.com/geocaching/logger/ (geocaching express logger) to log multiple finds. Can't help w/the deleted logs issue - life's too short in my view to worry about a few deletions. Happy Caching!
  3. Oh man - coyote goo - yuck! I was on my way last week to place a cache that I finally got approval for and 5 minutes into the hike, I bent low to clear a branch and pinched a nerve in my back. Wound up in the ER two days in a row from the searing pain! Well, now that I've seen the neurologist and an MRI has been done, I have to wait for my back to heal before I can hike back out and finally place the cache! I am counting the days - my family thinks I've lost my mind - maybe so - but I love this game. Goo, mud and all...
  4. Hi all. I created a very detailed .kml file and uploaded it to geocaching.com and tried to download it as a .gpx file to load into my Nuvi. I use GSAK and for some reason, I can't get the file to download as a pure .gpx file, since it automatically converts it to a GSAK file. Nuvi won't recognize that particular file for some reason. Then I tried converting the .kml to a Mapsource file and open it in Mapsource. Nothing happens when I open the file in Mapsource. Now I just have the basic Mapsource that came with my GPS. I'm wondering if I need an upgraded map? I have North America NT on my Nuvi. Ok - so what I really want to know is - how in the heck do I get all my route info into the nuvi? I'm willing to use whatever method will work the fastest. I'm going crazy and have spent hours trying to figure this out. We're leaving on a plane tomorrow a.m. and needed to have this done. All help is greatly appreciated!
  5. Wow Janna! This was REALLY excellent! Thanks for sharing!
  6. I promptly named our Nuvi "NuNu" although she is called other terms when she's moody or confused. Our handheld is an eTrex Vista HCx and we call her "Vista," although I'm thinking of changing it to "DB" for drunken bee!
  7. Why would you camouflage a micro? That was clever~
  8. I wish I could help you Parsa, but I'm just as baffled as you are! Sorry!
  9. You can download a special file to work with it. Go here to find out more: http://www.geocaching.com/about/google.aspx
  10. As has been said, there seems to be more at work here than just a difference of opinion on how to approach a cache. Crossing a busy highway while there is ample parking is not using good judgement. You both have not been caching very long, maybe you should take a break and let him go alone and get it out of his system? I'm a girly girl at heart and I know what you mean about mud and such, but I can tell you I have truly broken out of my girly girl comfort zone and will hike 2 hours in mud or 2 miles for a cache - much to my husband's amazement. I do it because my 12yo son likes it and it gets him out of the house doing something healthy and fun. I started out doing it for him, but now I'm doing it for me too. What seems more evident, though, is your need for both of you to communicate what your caching day expectations are. If you don't want to get muddy, then don't participate in those caches and likewise, if Adam wants to cache, he should have some consideration for your wishes when caching together. But in any case, you really need to let him go and do what he wants - anything else will ruin a relationship - no matter what the subject. Sometimes this will allow you to step back and see the situation in a much clearer way and help determine whether or not it's a good one for you. Here's a virtual hug {{{HUGS}}} - hang in there kiddo.
  11. I keep a "grabber" in my backpack - it folds in half and is handy when you need to root around and don't want to risk your hands. I got it at Walgreens for $10. Also, a travel size container of toilet paper - don't laugh! You never know!
  12. It will get you close, but will not be accurate enough to zero in. BUT, there are some who use a compass and a map, so, I guess it depends on how determined you are! LOL! You can input coordinates into it, but it won't get you as close as a handheld.
  13. Can you tell me where you foudn it for this price? I've been watching prices on this and haven't found anything close to that price.
  14. I have a eTrex Vista HCx and really like it. It has the electronic compass and altimeter. Way more than I'll probably ever use. I got it from Wal-Mart online at a good price. If you can find a deal like Blasingsgame - that would be awesome! Wish I had found a deal like that! I would say you should try to get a GPS w/a USB cable. It just takes out all the connection issues when downloading info.
  15. Also, take note that a lot of GPSers work better if you are moving. Some people call it the "drunken bee dance." You'll know what I'm talking about as you do some more. LOL! If you stand in one spot and spin, your GPS takes some time to reset the direction change or might even get stuck in the last direction in which you were moving. Just move around a little bit like a "drunken bee" going back and forth and it should correct itself.
  16. I have a Vista HCx and I get great reception, even under tree cover. It comes preloaded with a basic map system, but I don't use it for car nav. I have a separate car navigation system for that. I really love it. I got mine ONLINE at Wal-Mart just after the holidays and found it to be the best price I could find on the web.
  17. I don't know anything about GPX sonar, but there is a program called Cachemate that can run on a Windows platform on a smart phone. It's about $8. and it's the best $8. I ever spent! You can download your info. right into the phone and it will give you the cache description, waypoints, hint (decoded), past logs and a place for you to log your finds and what you took and left. It's quite a nifty little program and not complicated. I don't have the link handy, but if you search for Smittyware on the internet, you should find it.
  18. Those are very clever! I especially liked the ammo can "wagon." How does one retrieve the lamp "bulb" cache?
  19. Ooohh - that's clever! I'm not much on puzzle caches, but that one looks do-able.
  20. CCW = cache collecting wand? So far I am happy to report that I have not needed to inflict violence on anyone since I was in grade school. Why is it that "regular" people think they need to armed at all times? I'll give you an example why: My husband sent an employee to a local grocery store to pick up some coffee. It was 10AM in the morning and not in a crummy neighborhood. He (the employee) was standing in line when an ARMED robber came into the store. As he was leaving, the police arrived and there was a shoot-out. The employee is a former marine, has a CCW, but was not carrying. Hmmm.... he sounds like a "regular" guy. I am petite, 5'2". I'm taking karate and concentrate on self-defense techniques. I'm known in my dojo as the "takedown queen." I would never want to be in close enough to contact to have to take someone down, OR pull my weapon which I carrry at all times - caching or not. I train at least once a month on the range and I keep myself updated on the law. I do not put myself in dangerous situations either, just because I carry a gun. There are caches on my ignore list for just this reason. It's all about safety - not playing "cowboy" - although I think I'd make a pretty good cowgirl! By the way - know where I can get a cache collecting wand? That sounds like something I could use!
