  1. I'm using the website search and was wondering how I can find caches by attributes? Specifically ones that require a boat to find? Can anyone help me to figure this out? Thank you.
  2. Ok, so one question for you. I don't usually do PQs. I've done them, and they have their purpose. But since I've re-started caching, I'm pretty much SOP. I live in an area where there are so many caches, I haven't the need to do any PQs. Given what I'm looking for (see OP), can those Locus features still work w/o PQs?
  3. I started caching in 2008, then took a hiatus and have recently gotten back into it. When I first started, I used GSAK and an Etrex. Etrex has since been lost. I’ve been using the Android app from Geocaching.com. I find the app lacking in that I want to be able to input a fresh set of coordinates and navigate. I’ve used Google Maps for this, but it’s cumbersome being on the road and having to convert coordinates and then copy/past into Google Maps. Also, I like to access cache logs while on site sometimes, which I cannot do inside the Geocaching App, but have to open a browser to do this. Thus, I’m looking for a better app that allows me to do all of these tasks more simply. I’ve looked at Locus Maps and it seems feature rich, but I cannot tell if I can actually input fresh coordinates in my desired format. I haven’t checked into GDAK yet, but have read reviews and it seems it would work. Or should I just get another handheld GPS? From what I can tell, my android smartphone is just as accurate as a handheld. Has anyone used both apps? I welcome your input – likes/dislikes and recommendations. Thanks in advance!
  4. Add me to the list AND newly created PQs as well. Just GREAT for a long weekend. =(
  5. Here you go... not sure I still like that font... ? Thanks! I think I'm still doing something wrong though... Mizdeeds - I have another request - would it be possible to e-mail me a high resolution file of the avatar without the writing on the smiley? We want to get embroidered shirts, but the name inside the circle seems to be a problem and the larger avatar is the one that has the writing on the inside. Thanks, and we LOVE the avatar!

  7. Okay, here you go... I'm still not sure I like it! Let me know what you think. Oh yes! Thank you! So sorry it took me this long to see it - I was injured and out of circulation for a while. Cool beans! Great job! Thanks again!
  8. Hmmm... I have observed that they have several different maintenance companies working there, but it is interesting to note that even though it says "Do Not Remove" on the cache and on the log clearly states the name of the person who gave me permission to hide it, it still disappears. The predominance of maintenance companies in my region employ persons who speak little to no English and they may not be able to read English as well. I might have to make a dual language sticker. LOL!
  9. Before you do this you need to get permission from the owners of the land. Gluing a container without permission is considered vandalism and would result in an archived cache. I absolutely would do that and I'd really rather find a way to place the hide w/o a permanent solution.
  10. Yep, caching or not - legal CWP. H & K 9 mm, sub compact, hollow points, hi-cap mag. I practice at the range at least once a month and hope to God I never need to use it. I'm not a hunter either. This caliber wouldn't do much on bear, but hopefully the noise would scare it away! I probably wouldn't return to a cache where I encountered a mother bear on the way. It's just not worth risking my life for a find. Mother bears are not to messed with! Safe gun ownership is all about continuous training and never intentionally putting yourself in a situation where you might have no choice but to use it.
  11. I've had a remote small cache go missing several times. I've tried different containers and I'm not sure, but I think they are falling to the ground and being discarded by maintenance people because my adhesive methods are not good. Picture a large concrete diamond shaped planter - approximately 12 feet on all sides. It sits about 4 feet off the ground and has about a 18" concrete ledge in which people can sit. On the underside of the ledge is a small space of about 3-4" where one can cram a small container in. The whole planter is on top of a concrete base. I've tried using industrial velcro and two-part epoxy glue to attach the velcro to the concrete under-ledge. Didn't stay. I think what I would like to do is permanently glue the container upside down (say, for instance, a waterproof match container or bison) so that the bottom of the container is glued to the concrete and the finder can just screw off the top to retrieve the log. Are there any adhesives out there - (and please don't say Gorilla Glue - it just doesn't work for this application) that I can apply the cache to it's hiding location and not have to hold it there for 30 minutes? It's a remote area, but still a public place. It needs to be very strong to take the abuse of pulling which will naturally happen when the finder removes the top. If you have any ideas other than the above for attaching the cache, I'm all ears! Thanks!
  12. I have both a Garmin Nuvi and a handheld eTrex Vista HCx. I recently contacted Garmin because my handheld was malfunctioning and it was determined it needed to be sent to Garmin for repair. They told me it would take 10-14 days. I had it back and repaired within a week. I'm a very happy customer.
  13. We don't do them. First time we pulled into one, my 12 yo son said "No way Mom, that's just wrong!" He stayed in the car while I got out for about 30 seconds and then decided I didn't want to do it. I don't mind that others cache in cemetaries, it's just not our thing and we avoid them.
  14. Didn't want you to think I forgot.... I'm just having issues creating it! So far I'm not liking how it's turning out... Oh gosh - I hope you like a challenge! LOL! Your help is most appreciated - thanks!
  15. Ooooooo - a telescopic marshmallow roaster - that sounds cool! We checked out our Target bins the other day and didn't see anything like that. I've had really good luck at our local Staples office supply store. I got Masterlock combination locking carabiners for 50 cents as well as 4-piece full size tool kits for 50 cents each. I bought all they had.
  16. How about..... For avatar: For Sigs: Cool! Hubby had one small idea - maybe have a tongue sticking out - i.e, the "sassy" part... can you do that? That would be great! Looks awesome just like it is too! Thank you so much!
  17. Well it looks like nobody has had any requests here for a while, so I was wondering if I could maybe put one on here? I'm really at a loss for an avatar. Obviously, I'm using a photograph right now. I made a yahoo avatar of a likeness of me in a hiking outfit but obviously, they don't have GPSrs as an "accessory." We are also trying to come up with a "logo" if you can help us with that? We sign our logs as "Team Sassy." I originally thought of maybe the smiley (found it smiley) with the geocaching colors inside and "Team Sassy" circled around it - I know - real original, but Sassy is really hard to define... or the geocache treasure chest with the name in gradient geocaching colors. Any help, suggestions, ideas, comments, etc. would be welcome! Thanks in advance!
  18. We occasionally cache with a group of kids and one of the kids gets mad if we don't only look for larger caches. Since we've been caching a while, this creates a bit of a problem, because we started out looking for the larger ones and we've pretty much found them all without having to drive longer distances (and frayed nerves). However, when MY son caches with just me - he PREFERS micros, for the challenge and he's just darn good at finding them. And there are just some times when we don't feel like doing a lot of bushwacking or hiking... I think there's a place for all sizes.
  19. My 11 yo son made the whole family walking sticks since our Wal-Marts around here don't carry them. He used Florida Holly upon a recommendation of a seasoned cacher. We have a lot of it growing on our property. He stripped the bark, sanded them smooth, drilled holes in the upper portion for leather straps, stained and sealed them, and attached a screw the same diameter as the bottom. The screw makes a nice little "ping" sound when sticking it in a hole and hitting a cache... Since we live in a relatively flat topographical region, we use the sticks for hiking in the swamps mostly, or on long trails. My stick has a cool little curve on the handle with a smoothed "nub" which is perfectly placed for my hand. They're not fancy, but they do the trick and my son is very proud of them. We also carry a "Grabber" I bought from Walgreens that is handy for, well, grabbing objects in dark holes (hopefully not snakes!). It folds in half and fits into our caching backpack nicely.
