  1. Just reported the following four streets with address information in the "Founders Landing" subdivision in Strasburg, VA located at N39º 00.276' W78º 20.669' Founders Way Dellinger Drive Settlers Way Potters Circle
  2. This information doesn't help anyone find the other thread. It may have been the "5th thread down at 5am this morning", but many threads have been posted since then and the order has changed since then. Perhaps if you could quote the exact subject line of the other thread or even post a link to it, it would help others to find it MUCH more easily! Something like this: New software available for GPSMAP 60CSx
  3. While speed could be a factor, I think altitude might be one as well. I have flown over my house on several occasions recently at 2,000 feet (which is about 1,200 feet above ground level), and it did not shutdown on me then. The times that it did shutdown on me, I was at 2,500 feet (1,700 feet above ground). Then again, at the lower altitude I was making tighter (smaller) circles. Still, the tracks took me across the 39th parallel. I will have to compare recent tracks to the ones where it shutdown and see if there's any real difference.
  4. CLICK HERE to download the FREE MapSource update. This should fix the problem as the Topo product came out long before any Garmin products had USB connections.
  5. I've got the Garmin GPSMAP 60Cx. I've owned several Garmins before I got this one, and THIS one is the one I was hoping Garmin would produce! Here's why: 1. Autorouting - Never stopping to ask for directions = PRICELESS! 2. Display - beautiful color that is more visible in direct sunlight - screen is always visible 3. TransFlash memory - expandable memory that can store tons of maps, tracks and custom points of interest! 4. NO magnetic compass or barometric altimeter - no calibrating, just turn it on and go! Also no false altitude readings when flying in pressurized airplane cabins. 5. Superior signal reception - SiRF III chipset gets reception in all but the worst of conditions! 6. External antenna jack - Expands reception possibilities when reception is at its worst. Whereas I was always buying a new GPSr every year before the 60Cx, unless I lose or break this unit, I cannot see the need to buy another unit for many years! I want for nothing with this unit.
  6. ...and to think I paid $70.00 for mine when that size first came out.
  7. What I did above was download my tracks into MapSource, then took a screen-shot (Alt+PrtScr) and pasted the image into PhotoEditor (a product of earlier versions of the MS Office suite), but you can use the Windows Paint program in a pinch. I then uploaded the image to an image hosting site (PHOTOBUCKET.com). I then linked the image file from the hosting site into my message. My house is a good 15nm outside of the ADIZ. And being that our GPSrs are simple handheld units (not aviation units), they don't know the ADIZ from a hole in the ground - so I doubt if it'd be related to that.
  8. Well then, I guess I'd be takin' the Kingston cards back to place of purchase for a refund. Try the SanDisk brand - I've never heard anything bad about them (except for their Ultra-II cards).
  9. Before getting another 1GB card, try using one of your other cards. If you're sure that it works fine on one of the other cards, THEN go out and get a different 1GB card and try it. If it's a problem with all of your cards, try hiding all of the installed maps and show only the basemap - and THEN try it again...
  10. CLICK HERE to view the list of airlines which approve/disapprove of GPSr use while in flight.
  11. I've used my 60Cx on many commercial flights without any problems, so I don't think it's a speed problem.
  12. I cannot speak for the OP, but I do not use proximity alarms on my unit.
  13. Being on an ATV, your problem may be related to slightly loose-fitting rechargeable batteries getting bumped and losing contact with the circuit. This has been a known problem with Garmin units for years. You COULD send the unit back to Garmin for warranty repair... or if you want to try fixing it yourself, you just have to remove the batteries, carefully pry-out the metal contacts out toward the inner compartment - DON'T BREAK THE CONTACTS - then maybe wedge a little foam between the contact and where the contacts connect to the compartment to help keep the contacts sprung out toward the battery contacts.
  14. I believe that I'm the inspiration behind the bad map segment idea. My 60Cx works fine when driving and walking around, but when I fly over and circle around my house in a Cessna, my unit shuts off on its own just before crossing over a particular map segment border near my home. Interesting situation faced by the OP. Seems like possibly a particular memory card is causing the problem... My suggestion would be to retrace your steps from when the unit shut itself off and see if you can reproduce the problem using the different memory cards with the same maps loaded for area where the unit shuts off. I'd be interested in knowing what you find out.
  15. After 8 months, Imboden Dr. and Pickett Ct. show up on MapQuest. CLICK HERE Nothing on Yahoo yet, and nothing about Crystal Ln. on either site.
  16. Are you refering to the following statement? Trip and waypoint management function lets you transfer waypoints, routes and tracks between your GPS and your PC** If so, that is a basic function of the MapSource program - you can do that with any MapSource product including Topo. CONTACT GARMIN
  17. MetroGuide WILL work on the 60CS in that you can load the maps to the unit, see the roads and look-up addresses and POIs, but it does NOT support the autorouting feature of your GPSr. Autorouting is one of the best features of the 60CS, so City Navigator or an older version of City Select is better-suited for your unit.
  18. Yeah - if you're gonna be out deep in the woods and far-removed from the civilized world, you're gonna want them. The street maps like MetroGuide and City Navigator don't show all the little streams, trails and outdoor points of interest like the Topos do.
  19. Nevermind Sorry, Bob. I was distracted when reading your post and when I read that your unit has a data card, my mind automatically thought your 176C functioned like the Cx handhelds - and it doesn't work that way. So, your unit cannot do the Custom POI thing. The data card is simply for storing maps - PERIOD. Now, what you CAN do... You can accumulate tracks on the unit. The Active Log will hold 3,000 continuous track points at a time, and that really is a lot - more than you can get in a day of normal tracking! You can download your tracks into MapSource... You can open up multiple instances of MapSource on your computer, and copy-n-paste tracks from one instance to another - and then edit (delete) specific track points within MapSource. You can also create your own Garmin-compatible maps, and incorporate your GPS tracks into those maps... CLICK HERE for more info...
  20. MeMap is a similar program that will allow you to change the "lawyer" screen to an owner screen. Someone might accidentally or intuitively find a way to change the unit's built-in owner information, but chances are that whoever finds your GPSr won't know about MeMap and how to change the information there. CLICK HERE to see a thread of satisfied users.
  21. If they were trying to advertise their product you'd think they would at least spell their words correctly. ...and they might even post a link to where we can get it and tell us a little more about the product and why we'd want to use it instead of what we're using already.
  22. Team MnMizzou is right. MetroGuide will work, but it doesn't support the autorouting feature of your GPSr. To me, that's the best feature of those units!
  23. You can't do either one. Only tracks stored in the unit's internal memory can be viewed on the GPSr's display. Tracks stored on the data card cannot be viewed on the screen. Waypoints cannot be stored on the data card either - only in the unit's internal memory. BUT you can create Custom POIs (Points of Interest) which are stored on the data card. The only limit on the number of Custom POIs is how much free space you have on your data card. CLICK HERE for more info on Custom POIs...
  24. The 60C(S)x will use either version. If you only have that unit, buy the NT version! It is compressed so that you can fit more data into smaller capacity memory cards. If you have a 60C(S)x AND another unit that is NOT NT compatable, then get the non-NT version so that you can unlock the maps to both of your GPSrs. The C330 comes PRELOADED with the map data. You won't get the CD/DVDs, so you won't be able to load it to any other units.
