  1. quote:"Don't mess with a geocacher. We know all the best places to hide a body." ...and another geocacher will find it the next day
  2. Hee-Heeeee... I got you beat by almost 900 M.P.H.!!! Standing Still at 1,000 MPH...
  3. Whenever I am traveling, I get the coordinates for all of the airports involved. Then I do an advanced search by coordinates to find the nearest caches for each. If there're any TBs going my way, I'll pick 'em up! I'm in the process of scouting a few locations for Ronald Reagan Washington National. I was going to put one on the airport property, but a cop started asking me questions when he saw me wandering around (averaging coordinates).
  4. That's a thought, but the speed was continuously increasing up until I shut the GPSr off. The satellites move in orbit at a relatively constant rate.
  5. This is supposed to be a GARAGE SALE! I.E. a forum for people who live in the neighborhood who have equipment they want to sell to other people in the neighborhood. Team Shuey coming into the neighborhood and hocking his wares is akin to "Backpackers USA - A Division Of Wal-Mart" buying a house next door to you and setting up shop! There is a fine line drawn between someone selling something they own that they no longer have a need for and commercial marketing. Team Shuey has obviously plowed through that line! ...and another thing: Some people (I am one) may believe that his avatar crosses the line of outright logo thievery... I mean, c'mon Shuey! How many lines can you cross! Let me know as you cross them, because I almost think it's comical!
  6. I keep as much of the maps of my surrounding area installed as possible. When I go on a trip, I load the various maps that I will need on that journey. When I get back, I load my home maps back on it.
  7. OOOOOps... Step 5.5: Turn the device "On"
  8. 1. Install MapSource onto your computer 2. Run the MapSource program 3. Select the "Map Tool" 4. Point the mouse over the map segments, and click on the segments you want to upload to the GPS 5. Connect the cable to the computer and to the GPS 6. Press the "Save To Device" button
  9. ...with my Etrex Legend! I was standing on a street corner doing a MetroGuide 5 "find" for the nearest fast food at about 1:20 this afternoon. Something caught my eye and I realized numbers were changing and I was just standing there. The speed was at 980 and I watched it accellerate an additional 2 MPH per second to 1,080. I toggled through all of the different pages and everything indicated that I was zipping across the sky at tree-top level almost as fast as the Concorde! The map page showed that I was in Canada while I was actually in Washington, DC. It would've continued on, but I decided to turn it off and try turning it back on to see if that would fix it. It did. In hindsight, I should've let it continue tracking around the world! That would've been an awesome saved track If anyone is interested, I have the .mps file available... Now, I'm wondering if I can ever trust my GPSr again! Have any of you had any such anomalies with any of your units?
  10. I did the following search at yahoo.com: acronyms EPE navigation Looks like "EPE" = Estimated Position Error Sounds like maybe the degree of accuracy of your unit. http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=acronyms+EPE+navigation&ei=UTF-8&vm=i&n=20&fl=0&x=wrt
  11. I'll let you have a copy of my MetroGuide for 3 twenty-rocks and a picture of your daughter!
  12. The VERY BEST way to go about shoplifting is to grab the item, walk up to a security camera, stand there for about a minute or two. Then carefully and deliberately conceal the item beneath an article of clothing. Then walk outside the store. Once outside the store, wait for about 4 or 5 minutes. Celebrate a little - open the item and start playing with it.
  13. Well Said! (I just wanna send a post and see if my avatar is working properly)
  14. I went to DCA to scout it out. As mrplug mentioned, "close enough", but too close. My criteria: 1. away from view of the control tower 2. very accessible - don't want travellers to get their shoes dirty or wet! 3. near the terminal 4. obviously it needs to be somewhere where not many people go 5. Safety - no crossing roads without a pedestrian crosswalk Well, it took me about two hours and I finally found only 1 possible place. ..a 12-minute walk from the far side of the terminal. I'm gonna drop a $5.00 bill into a cache container and see if it's still there in two weeks before I list it on the site. L8R G8Rs
  15. No more airport lockers since 9/11/01.
  16. Flying is a great way for people to move about the country and the world. I think the same holds true for TBs. If GeoCachers who live or work near airports could create caches near airport passenger terminals, other GeoCachers who are catching flights could check the cache's Web page for any bugs going in their direction, swing by the cache and pick it up, and swiftly get it closer to it's destination. Perhaps GeoCaching.com could devote a special page to airport TB caches? Of course, such caches would have to be far enough away from the terminals so as not to cause undue "suspicious activity" calls to airport security! I live near "Ronald Reagan Washington National" and plan to start one there. I'll scout a location this week and perhaps activate it in a week or two.
