It must be archived. Definatly not a new cache. I will try to find someone that has found it and has the GC#

I was upstate last weekend and getting a couple 'o' caches. On saturday night my brother in laaw was talking to someone about a cache he couldn't find. I over heard where they were talking about. On my way home. I stopped by the covered bridge in Downsville, ny. From the car I noticed the location they were talking about. I went over and found the cache, signed the log and made a note to myself to log it. When I went to GC.com..... The cache does not exist. Is there anyway to find what happened to it? I don't even have a GC code. I'm used to not finding existing caches but not the other way around

I was looking for a cache today in a small patch of woods. I was about 150' from it. There was garbage all over the place. I didn't pay attention to the blue tarps until I realized i was in the middle of a homeless tent city. Just freaked me out. DNF

I grabbed a coin and I'm having trouble logging it. I can track it no problem, Get to the log page no problem but when i enter the tb# it comes back no match. What might the problem be?

No the computer can't see it. I never shows up in "My Computer" just the malfunction message

OK Heres the poop. First of all thanks for all the help but it wasn't going to help. I called Garmin Tech support. It seems for some reason the gps is stuck in USB mass storage mode (How it got there I don't know.) But bottom line the thing is busted and needs to be sent back for re grooving! Thanks all

No good. I have tried all different usb ports and a new cable. Device manager has it as unknown device. This is really getting maddening. One other note I did have it connected and was tring to sent one waypoint from GSAK to the gpsr. That is when it seems to have happened. GSAK kept trying to sent the file and didn't come up with an error. in order to stop GSAK I close it with task manager. Then had trouble starting GSAK again. I think I'm going to try removing and reinstalling GSAK. The only thing is, It seems strange, when I plug in the gps windows doesn't say "found new hardware" just the aforementioned malfunction.

I did finally get it connected to another computer. It recognized the device and I ran the garmin drivers again. I was HAPPY. I went up to my other computer and no good. Device manager says there is no driver installed for the unknown device. I tried updating the driver with the garmin software but since XP does not recognized the device it won't work. ( Garmin driver .EXE doesn't have the options it did on the other computer it just say plug in the cable and turn the gps on) I tried using device manager and updating the driver, leading it to the folder that contains the drivers and it can't find it. Is there another way I can install the drivers on my HD (Incase they are corrupt) and retry pointing device manager in the right direction????

Nope no yellow flags. I just did a master reset on the unit and the same thing happened. I tried it on a different computer and it found the device but then went to the same message. I'm getting very close to your suggestion #1

I have a vista Hcx which has worked very well until today. I deleted all the waypoints in preperation of sending new waypoints to it via GSAK. When I connected it to my usb port I didn't get the familiar "duh dink" sound one get when connecting a device. Instead I got a pop up message which read " One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it." I've tried everything (hopefully not everything) to no avail. I even restored the system to an earlier date, Also tried running garmins driver.exe file but the gps is still not recognized. For giggles i connected a ventue Hc and it connected fine. Any help would be wonderful!!!!!!!

I just replaced my gps 12 because the screen failed but I used it with no problem. I have all fo my marine waypoints in it and I'm tring to get them out now. I only have a serial cable and can't find the drivers for it. I'm going to try using old marine software and an old computer and see. Hopfully I can DL the waypoints with out seeing the screen.

Sounds like the maps might be a good thing to get but the vennture only has 24 megs for maps. I wish I did get the legend with the card slot. It sounds like I will only get the local area into the memory

Actually I now have to call myself to the carpet. Metroguide is not compatible with the venture HC. Only topo us 2008 SO How is topo 2008?

I also recently got the Venture HC. It comes with a base map. Is it recommended to add a more detailed map? Which map is better for geocaching, the TOPO US 2008 or the TOPO 24k? How much of the map can be loaded onto the 24MB memory? snip The Topo '08' fits almost all of the eastern half of the US into about 1Meg of the Micro SD card... /snip Cache On! GoPhast I'm suprised no one's called me to the carpet for the ooops above. That 1Meg *_should say_* 1GIG. I'll have to be the one to call you to the carpet..... The venture HC doesn't have a card slot. Just the vista and legend I am also interested in more detailed mapping Just to know the best street to park on etc. Does topo 2008 have decent road coverage or is metroguide better.

In answer to "Chuy!" The gps is only showing about 50 on the map page. And exactly 50 on the waypoint page

I'm using GSAK loading a pocket query (that is where the 500 comes from) I have not yet registered GSAK but it did load all 500 into cachemate on my pocket PC I had like 15 waypoints loaded. Which leads to another question. Will GSAK overwrite them?

I'm trying to load 500 waypoints from a PQ onto an etrex venture (also tried a quest 2 with same result) It will only load 50 waypoints before I get the message gps memory full? Why is this. The unit is supposed to hold 500 Waypoints. However both units only hold 50 routes. Could this have something to do with it?

What was your solution? I'm trying to figure the same thing out on a venture HC

How do I get caches into the geocache menu of the etrex venture HC? I loaded a pocket query into it. Then when I go to find it lists custom poi's and that is where the caches are but not under geocaches. Set up just seems to ask what icon I want for found and unfound. The geocahe heading then shows none found. thanks

Actually it is v7 However I have a v8 upgrade disk. I would imagine it should be a free upgrade. Any offers?
